People,
The above was just a guess and has nothing to do with the Chithra vs Sujatha happenings going on.
BTW, there's a beautiful Chithra solo from a recent telugu film by the name of Suyamvaram. It goes like 'Marala telupara priya malara telupura'. Can someone please bring this song to music director Deva's knowledge?:-). Seriously:-)

MS and aruvi i have clearly mentioned its a 'tamil'paadagi. Sujatha is a Malayali.
One more clue about her(maybe i should start writing gossip columns:))-Her husband and a popular Cameraman/Director share the same name.

Ramki,
I am very happy to hear that the great singer S.JANAKI has agreed to participate inspite of her health problem. The willingness to donate to the charity is even great. She is really a great artist. We need the artist with this kind of mentality.JANAKI is not only the great singer but she is a greatest person.God bless her.
LONG LIVE S.JANAKI

aruvi looks like chitra is singing fewer songs nowdays(than she was singing a year ago). Lately even deva has changed camp to sujatha(deva kathulla pakkam thothippar:)). ARR has not used her after 'en swaasa kaatre'(though tajmahal was released after en swaasa kaatre it was recorded before that) KR and YSR has never worked with her(donno why).
Do u know why this is happening??Is she busy in other languages or is she cutting down her singing?
- From: aruvi (@ lagos07.slip.yorku.ca)
on: Tue Feb 8 15:50:54 EST 2000
She's pretty busy in telugu and Malayalam, but I have also noticed that a lot of MD's are opting for Sujatha. My guess is that they are probably doing so for cheaper salary. And Harini seems to be the one to get the 'good' songs, of all three. Other than that, I see a decline in # of songs from my favorite singers, Swarnalatha, Janaki and Chithra. What to do....:-(

mmm do u think sujatha is paid less than Chitra?? Being a senior singer Sujatha should be paid more than Chitra right?
- From: aruvi (@ lagos07.slip.yorku.ca)
on: Tue Feb 8 16:22:01 EST 2000
She's definitely paid less. Her popularity in the south doesn't meet upto Chithra's. I know cuz even at school when we talk about singers, when it comes to females, Chithra is the one that comes up. Plus, even though Sujatha started off early and even though they are around the same age and stuff, Chithra got a mile ahead in Kerala once she became popular through films. They are crazy about KJY and Chithra there. Sujatha's Chithram songs were big hits but she didn't attain the popularity, to my knowledge, that Chithra did with the mallu folks. As far as the cine fields concerned, Sujatha did not make a mark before Chithra, even though her songs may have been hits. And in telugu, Chithra has been in the lead for a long time now after whoever(Janaki, i guess) sort of lost popularity. Same as in tamil, where after the mid 80's, from 87 onwards, we heard a lot of songs by Chithra. So like for a decade now, she's been on the top. Obviously, her rates are going to be pretty high. I wouldn't object either, considering that someone like Hariharan could get payed 30000 rubies when he comes nowhere near Bala,(of course, tastes differ, but not facts:-)).

MS:))aruvi irukkum podhu adhu Chitra vs all female singers aayidum:))
Aruvi Maragathamani is a staunch Chitra voice bakthar. He very rarely uses other female singers.
But in Malayalam i will say that sujatha is getting almost equal share(nowdays).
ARR hindi padathil ellaam Sujatha and Anu sriram kku chance kudukka aarambichuttaar(Taal,1947, pukar).
Btw did u listen to chitra/Haris duet in 'Hello' under Devas music? Its a very good song dont miss it.

on: Tue Feb 8 19:04:20 EST 2000
Ramki, thanks. I will listen to it.
Anyways, my final say is this. If those MD's are not using her much than that is only because they don't know a good thing when they see it. Maragathamani has great taste. Sujatha is ARR's favorite I guess, because he started jingles with her and she's probably like a sister to him. And Chithra does have a hindi accent so maybe that's why he doesn't use her much in hindi. Rehman's ideal songs should probably be sung by Shweta and Remo and that crowd anyhow. Just how much can one listen to all their yelling?:-) It's a good thing I don't listen to much tamil songs (new) nowadays. It's mostly junk and repetitive. I just listen to old malayala songs. BTW, Velai, unga site-la 'aa raathiri manju poyi' is very very good.

As far as Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik raja are concerned, there was some talk some time back that Chithra had missed going to the recording theatre the day that KR's first song was recorded. Maybe they are holding some stupid grudge. Hey, in any case, they're the ones who lose.
I really don't know anything much about Malayalam film music so I can't say anything there. Everywhere, kalli kaalam kideeduthu:-).

Once for all a BIG doubt regarding the identity of Sangeetha raajan has been cleared. He is none other than the malayalam music director S.P.Venkatesh. Ramki, you were right (as you always are) !!!! Ravindran is not sangeetharaajan..

There are some songs of S.P.Venkatesh which are good. I shall try to let you knwo in Mallu film music thread Ramki. I donto have much info now :-(
Aruvi : glad you liked "aah rathri maanju pOyi". Unconsciously, I have been equating this song with "azaikkaadhE azaikkaadhEy, aruginilE enaiyE raaja" - a gem by PS though the raagam is very much different.
Now this has contributed much for the digression :-)

Director Charan says:
Amarkalam is a very popular Tamil word which, used colloquially, means something was "very good, first class." When I was working in K B's Duet, I was in A R Rahman's studio one day. A song was being recorded and, after it was over, Rahman came out. And SPB, who had sung the song which was being recorded, asked him how it went. Rahman said, 'Amarkalam.' Somehow the word stuck with me and became the title of my next film...

KJY and SPB did two of their super shows (together on the same stage, accompanied by SHRUTHI Orchestra) at Sydney, Australia on January 29th and 30th, 2000. A North American tour is being planned for August-September season. Any Sanghams, Associations or individuals interested?
Last week, KJY also did two shows in Dubai (with Chitra and Vijay) as part of his AHIMSA-2000 world tour.
