Instrumental music by Illaiyaraja has to sound the way Paul Mauriat interpreted most of popular western pop hits of the 70's.

IR had met Paul Maurait sometime in late 1980s. I think in instrumental music, Paul Mauriat is king. He has translated simple western songs into fantastic arrangements for the orchestra. IR surprised me when he did a remarkable song in the PATTU PADUVA. The song is a duet by two woman singers a chorus like song: POONGATRILE .... That interludes were Paul Mauriat like arrangemenits. This is the way I hope IR will convert his old songs for instrumental types. Not the style he did in 'aur ek prem kahani'

Beutiful topic. IR himself had admitted in an interview that he had serious influences of Paul Mauriat.

If only Paul Mauriat could orchestra a selection of IR's great tunes.
Have any of you heard PM's version of the theme from A Summer's Place ( a haunting tune), any additional info about this movie?

I know this is a late response! But can any one tell me where I can get First PM records, including numbers like Entre do Aguas, Sur la Plage, Je Pars, Holidays, Lonely Days Lonely Nights, Bilitis....Yes, I have that album Summer Place. A real classic in arrangment.

BTW, has someone has info as to what PM is currently up to? It would be a great idea if IR can personally meet him and ask him to make arrangements, orchestrate and release an album that's full of IR's compositions...personally selected by himself! (Needless to repeat that PM is the all-time great in arrangement, apart from the fact that he had been an impressive composer as well.. e.g. Alla figaro)

Hi Paul Mauriat has retired from conducting. His farewell concert was the 1998 Sayonara Concert in Japan. This was a super concert.
The orchestra's new conductor is the orchestra's main pianist, Gilles Gambus (guy with the curly hair and glasses). Paul Mauriat will probably still be having a hand in composing, arranging for the new orchestra but he won't be conducting or touring with them.
The new orchestra is touring Japan in November 2000.. Hopefully they will be releasing a new album this year. Their last new album was Romantic released in Japan on October 17, 1997.
Cheers

It is not a good notice to know that Maestro Mauriat is conducting no more. By my side I'm very sorry because I listened him since 1967 when I was a teenager and is my number one. If you know how can I contact him by Internet, be kindly giving me his address.
Many thanks in advance

"Love Is Blue" is my wifes and I's song, it is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever listened to. When I was stationed in England in the late 60's I bought Paul Mauriat's album "A Taste Of Mauriat" and I have played it to death, if anyone out there knows of a way I can replace it I would surly appreciate the information. This album contains what I believe is the most beautiful version of "Il Silenzio(The Silence) that has ever been produced.

great to find a site like this. been collecting mauriat music since 1970. have over 50 vinyl albums & 30 on cd's. I was with Ilaiyaraja in avm studios, madras, india, discussing PM's music in july or august of 1983 after which only he left for Europe to meet him. Yes, there is lot of common ground in their music esp in Raja's re-recording works between 1978-1986. Now attempting to convert my vinyl into CDR for live long preservation. I also have one video of PM - Live in Japan, the concert from 1982 I think which was released partially as I love breeze. I heard there are two more - I am interested in trading my priceless PM collection for any videos or laser discs of PM & albums which I do not have

Regarding Paul Mautiat influence on Illayaraja's music is very much true. His back ground score has the style of Paul maurite orchestra.Infact i'm very much inetrested in doing research on this...just with simple listening method, without much music theory knowledge. Please do contact me..thanks.

Nice to meet you.
I claim to be Eisaku Takano living in Japanese Sendai.
There is a Paul Mauriat fan in America, Australia, Mexico.
I went eight times to a concert.
It is 1981 that I went for the first time.
It is the front from now on for 19 years.
I am not a member of a Paul Mauriat fan club, but want to enroll sometime soon.
However, what I cannot enroll in by capacity excess is disappointing.
I do not understand English, but use translation software from Japanese to English.
Because make effort to be able to speak English from now on || Thank you.
In it, I may cut it for two or three years.
