Truly, it is my inquisitiveness to understand the influence of TFM page on anything. I am aware of the fact that some musicians visit this page then and there. How seriously they take the views of people? Any idea. Though regular usual fights are in flame, to what extent they influence on anything? Is it just a time pass site. How many of us have comprehend the true worth of this (if any). Let me know the suggestions from all sectorians

I see this is the best thread to connect people of same likings. In fact, I got contacts of so many good people from various backgrounds. I believe others do came across a similar situation.

I don't think many would ever visit here after they read threads like baba review.. I think it is more like a time pass for some people.. I got one good song from you by visiting this page. I get details about some rare songs. I get update about tamil music.. and also reviews of new music.. After a few visits it is easy to figure out which review is truthful and which is not.
One thing that i really was surprised about ,awareness of importance of BGMs in tamil movies on the part of some fans. But for some useless postings, it can be made much better if TFM admin takes steps.. There are certain forums like bbc. where they screen the postings before publishing it.. It shouldn't be like every tom, di
kk and harry posting ..

TFM page is generally a good place for resources. Although, largely the forum is IR-centric, we can still get some balanced thoughts.
Of course morons and idiots post their convulted views now and then. The secret is in separating the chaff from the wheat.
TFM page has had some great contributors such as Manisekaran and recently Saravanan, who are encyclopaedias of this field.
At least for the sake of these kind of knowledge, we have to put up with recalcitrants like the above.
I also understand that some members of the TFM community do visit this site to get some feedback on public opinion.

One should include Cinema Virumbi, OISG also to the above list.

I know that. In fact even you are a valuable contributor.
People like all of you is what makes TFM still readable.

TFM page is invaluable. Nowhere in the net have I found a more informed forum with participants having excellent credentials.
One small request to all - I believe majority of 'post-ers' are from s/w companies, or MS-educated. There are many more fans with excellent knowledge of nuances of music who dont have access to the net(eg..mech engrs in Indian companies, etc). Do popularise newtfmpage among your music loving friends as much as possible.

Ragapravaham Sundar Sir,
I am a very recent entrant, more recent than Saravanan himself! I just happen to remeber the songs of my school/ college days (which I personally heard on AIR/ Vividh Bharati) which bluntly ends at around 1982! You might have seen that more than TFM details, I remeber TF details and other trivia related to the film industry / politics (as politics and movies are inseparable in TN!). I don't think I am anyway near the fountainhead of Sarvanan whose memory seems to span 4 to 5 decades! I have also heard that Manisekharan is a great poster in this forum, though I don't see him much these days! Thanks for your large hearted gesture of adding my name in the list above!

I still rate you as one well-informed and a good poster.

Oh God! Thank you for your very kind words.
C V, I am touched by your appreciation too. I am also a new entrant. There have been so many others, in so many threads who have contributed immensely over the years. There is a wealth of information in this portal. I am really happy that I stumbled upon this forum quite accidentally.
There is much to learn and share and the common love for tfm unites us all. But I am quite saddened when I see so much acrimony in some of the threads. We all have our favourites, but we should not run down other artistes and hurt their fans in the process. Live and let live.
Long live newtfmpage.com!

Saravanan, Cinema Virumbi, OISG & Rgpm Sundar
It is our fortune that you guys are untouched by the dark happenings in this forum.
Please continue your good work.
Manisekaran posts now and then in the Old Songs thread and was recently quite active in the KVM thread.

If Saravanan is also a recent entrant, then I am the latest. I also stumbled upon this forum accidently just two months back only and I am immensely happy, in fact, overwhelmed to see knowledgeable guys writing about so many things that too in a smooth readable flowery language. Hats off to you all. I was yearning for the like-minded friends to discuss some rare songs of particularly 60s,70s and 80s though I could easily discuss songs pertaining to the first three decades(1931-60)with LMFs in our Vintage Heritage. This forum consists the cream of intellectual tfm fans and I dont think in any other forum one could find this. This acrimony, malice and character assassinations which Saravanan laments about though matters all contribute to,IMO, more serious discussion and finally add to fun only and no motives can be attributed. We need more no. of serious tfm rasikas. Long live this site administrators and the valuable contributors! By the by I am curious to know any other person from Chennai visits this page. This God is one of the site admins.?

Saravanan, OISG, God, Prabhu, Rgpm Sundar and other friends,
When I see angry fights between IR and ARR fans, I am only reminded of an answer in Kumudam 'Arasu BadhilgaL' a few years back:
Q: IR , ARR oppiduga.
A: Hindi paattai kEttuk koNdiruntha thamizhanai Thamizh paattin pakkam thirumba vaiththvar IR. Hindi paattai kEttuk koNdiruntha Hindi kaararai Thamizh paattin pakkam thirumba vaiththvar ARR.
Can anything else be more apt and precise?

Wonderful reply by Arasu. It is only for this we require you here. Now you could have understood why I recommended your name.
Reg TFM influence, I'd like to add that what was started as an interesting past time has now become an obsession.

I also wanted to ask the same question.
Hope New veteran(!!) Saravanan can clarify!
When MGR came to power in 1977 he brought an ordinance that all theatres should run a minimum of 100 days of Tamil films in a year.Till that time Hindi movies were regulars in many theatres. For eg at Trichy Gaiety was a theatre showing exclusively Hindi films prior to 1977.
Since that ordinance the number of Hindi movies getting released in TN became less and less.(In fact i can t recall a major Hindi hit movie in TN after Sholay till QSQT came in 1989.)When MSV songs had to fight with Hindi songs (which were of better quality till 1975-Pre Angry Young man days) IR had a clean field.
So this IR-Hindi songs is a jacked up one.I am not trying to underestimate his contribution but stating that he made Tamils listen to Tamil songs is poor understanding of the background.

Vengayam and OISG,
I have mentioned this in some other thread also! Around 1974-76 (IR entered in May 76), there was a false one up manship among college students (even I was carried away by this!) in showing off to peers that they are up to date on Hindi films/ songs! (It will be a very tedious exercise to research how and why this happened!) Some even had the audacity to remark that Hindi is a musical language after all and how the combinations possible with 'pyaar' are not possible with'kaadhal'. Personally, it took me many years to be honest to myself and accept that my heart, indeed, longed for Tamil songs! It is in this context that IR entered as a 'sooRaavaLi' with 'annakkiLi'.
I think MGR Govt's order was mainly meant for English- film- only theatres!
Pl. also see the following Hindi film hits in Chennai/TN, post Sholay!:
Don,Qurbani,Mukaddar ka Sikhander,Love Story, Ek Duje ke liye, Andha kaanoon,Dharam Veer, Amar Akbar Anthony,Naseeb, Laawaaris, Coolie,Sharaabi, Hum kisi se kam nahin, Charas,Disco dancer, Maa, Nagina, Mr India, Chaalbaaz, Chitchor,Golmaal and many Sridevi-Mithun starrers like Himmatwala. (In fact, there was one film on mine disaster, 'kaala paththar', which was a hit only in Chennai! 'Choti si baat' ran for one year in Chennai and had some Tamil explanations of the story added in between! )
In any case, one need not see the films, it is sufficient if he/she listens to Vividh baharati Hindi or Ceylon radio Binaca Geet Maala (with the inimitable Ameen Sayani!)

My point was the penetration of Hindi films after 1977.Atleast Don,MKS,LS,DV and some Amitabh block busters never reached the III weekin my town.
Himmatwala,EDK,AK were actually Sri,Kamal,Rajini movies. So the real hindi movie was not there.
Qurbani -yes,i missed. But Aaaj Jaisa simply overshadowed many a tamil song for a while.
IMHO Sankarabaranam was the only non-tamil movie that madea mark all over TN.So my point still is valid.Yadhon ki Bharat & Bobby ,Sholay were there any other Hindi movies which reached that high post- 1977.
You are right about hindi songs. One of my elder cousin who was at college then had Jitendra as his favourite and he used to be our favourite "charlie".We even had a plan to ex-communicate him!!To this day he repents !
