Dear Friends,
Let us vote for 'Adi Rakkamma' from THALAPATHI as our choice for the World's Top Ten Songs poll conducted by BBC!
I am suggesting this song because if in case the BBC people listen to the nominated songs, they will feel knocked out on hearing our Maestro's 150 Vioins' Strings Ensemble!
Let us all do it at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/us/features/topten/
Yours Always Musically,
Vijay.

FOllowed your instruction except the end!
Just felt great voting for "Vande Mataram" by ARR!
Not because its best of ARR but it is more widely known than any IR crap and will have the chance of beating the rest of the world.
Vande Mataram!

Well said KL. But truely speaking IR's number is also a classic. But your idea will definitely work if thing we Indians have in us. That is the feeling of unity and projecting and Indian rather than an individual.

my vote goes for "poongathavae thazhthidava" from "Nizhalgal".it is way ahead of ARR's blend of sh** in the name of modern music.that radio voice crooner's song will get nowhere, coz even a club performer abroad can give a better stuff.

Voice of Real Music :
You are a true Indian. Indians show their colour everywhere. See what's now happening in Rajkot (Ind vs WI). India is winning but still crowd throws stones at players.
We never let our mother India to lift her head with pride.
Good.

AY, if you are particular about indian spirit, ARR VM is a real shame of Mother India. Just for the tune, the song is killed to the core. Just read, Bharathi translation of VaM, you will realise. When someone comments about ARR music suddently Indian feeling coming to you! Strange! Whereas in the same forum, people commented bad about IR fans settled in US as they are unfit to live in US.

speaker ,
ARR's vande Matram was not mean to be a patritotic sonsg .It was POP song for young audience ,of course a song with spirit .This was said by ARR in one interview .So we nee dnot compare ARR's VM with Bharathiyar!!!!

Yes MR, I know that. I wanted to point out that vm just like one more pop album do not project(not you) as national spirit song! This is one more commericial song that all!

Are Yaar:
You are confusing us. You talk about mother india and indian music and all that but you also recommend vanthe matharam... well if you recommend the good old version of vanthe matharam, I can understand that. ARR's version is a fully westernized one. How do you think that we can represent that as 'indian' music??
If you really want to talk about pure indian music, whether its folk or carnatic then I am sorry, ARR doesn't offer much.
But take songs like Eatho moham, anthi mazhai, poongathave etc etc.. You can see good tune and brilliant orchestration. That is really something the western world would not have heard before. ARR's music is good but it has nothing new for the western world and it does not represent indian music as such. Bos what ARR is doing is more or less same as what they were doing for so many years...but with a little indian touch here and there.

This thread looks like an excuse for another pointless IR vs. ARR battle thread! Anyway, everybody's entitled to their own favorite song. Why the heck do we have to waste our time at a silly opinion poll? What's the outcome going to be whether an IR song wins, an ARR one, or one by the Beatles or what have you???? Life still goes on, you know!
To the administration: if I were you, I'd close this idiotic thread. It just looks like an invitation for more insults and hurt feelings.

BTW how serious are polls on the net?? Would the BBC come off their high horse and really care for songs THEY would have hardly heard of?
Am voting though.

Take the positive side of it. Some 500 Jonties proved their unerring skill(and shoulder power) in hitting moving targets from afar. If you can convince Ganguly that the stumps are actually Mike Denness, you wont need the third-umpire when India fields.

Some one asked why didn't some other national song be recomended by me instead of VM.
Ya..if I have been given a veto then I would have recomended some Bharathiyaar song. But how many of us know Bharathi. How many Indians have listened to his poems. ? Sadly Bharathi and many regional language poets like could not reach every part of India.
Take IR's case now. Why I didn't recomend him?
How many here, in this forum itself like the Poongadhave song? I do like. But tell me who is IR outside South India?
This thread itself recomends a song from Dhalapathi. But some people are talking about a song from nizhalgal. Who can we consolidate vote.?
Look VM, whether you like or not is very popular and has become an expression of patriotism for Younger generation towards their country.
ARR is atleast a common factor now that the whole of India agrees upon. So I recommended VM and I think no other ARR's compostion is put for vote here because atleast we belive in consolidation of vote with cause. What's wrong in that.?
At least we can, as Indians, back one man who is now liked by the majority.
What stops IR fans from doing so.?
OKay..you vote or not...its not going to make a difference. As some one has said, beatles and other albums will have votes in 1000s and ARR and IR will have in double digits...so why fight on this.?

Are Yaar,
Your point is sensible. I agree.
At the same time why should we be so fond of making an indian to win and hence go for consolidation of vote etc? Its music right, People often claim music has no barriers; unifies every one etc (just like every other TF claims love to be so divine etc). Then whats Indian about it? The composition should talk for itself not the fame of the composer, right? Agreed, people would always feel that a symphony from mozart would be great, but this doesn't mean that a symphony from, say some unknown X, might not be good and his/her symphony cannot be the best, right.

Vijay..no no..not adi rakkamma...we cannot vote for something to impress others.
Lets pick one of the songs from the list here at -
http://www.raajangahm.com/guitarprasanna/favo_songs.html
I suggest EthO mOgam or alaigal Oyvathillai songs. EthO mOgam was special enough even for IR. He showed it off to some european composers personally. alaigaL Oyvathillai songs were a rage when it came out. I am pretty sure even now people will it. This could be an all time favorite. Also, these songs are a good example of TFM as genre. Let the world come to know of a style nurtured by our great music directors, who used WCM and indian melodies to create a harmony rich songs, that are a pleasant to hear in any mood.
For eg, puththam pudhu kaalai song - you can feel the glow of the morning sun coming through the electric guitar plucking in the background..
We should have a time estimate on when we can come to a consensus.
I would have suggested 'engE nimmadhi' but it is a little sad and I dont think everybody wants to hear this all the time.

yes kiru,
yaaradi nee mohini, aengae nimmadhi, aedho moham, alaigaL Oyvadhillai songs, oorvasi oorvasi etc are landmark songs of TFM.
