I purchased Rishi last week, and I was thoroughly impressed by the progress the young Raja has made. His style is imminent and provides quality listening pleasure. Well done.

I am back again. As a strong fan of YSR, I will assure Rishi is hitting not only the top spot in the charts, but it will damage the market of ARR and others. I am sure about it. Kutty Raja is proving he is the MD for next generation. YSR, keep it up. Expecting eagerly his Dheena and Vikadan.

While people analyze about other music directors' work, I have this question for longtime. From a layman point of view, he has given three enjoyable albums. But how good he is technically?

I think that YSR ahs done extremely well with this album. It offers a variety of styles and tempos. The tracks are extremely listenable and ARR needs to watch out. The music is fantastic and the recording quality is great. i can't wait for YSR's next release.

satish..that is also my feeling..not upto poovellAm kEttup pAr. But I think he is probably trying to increase his pace (quicker) and see how he is doing. For a very young guy he is doing very well.
Re: recording . You can tell it sounds like ARR. This should indicate to people who are not happy with IR's recording that it is more a matter of style rather than quality. IR is acoustic live recordings. Ofcourse many times the quality may not be good. But what we are perceiving is mainly the style. Many thEvar magan songs are of fantastic recording quality.

Guys
Please understand YSR is hardly 17 and the music he creates shows he has no shadow but he is a whizkid this what tfm industry people having talking about for a long time. If he gets a good director like MR or Shankar ,one can expect some great songs from him and i agree with you ,he is the guy to watch out for ,Go YSR get them tiger!! :)
After some repetition you will like Rishi
hope someone will write a balanced review about Rishi!! how is it doing in commercial market

Did you guys read those articles in raaja.com?
There is a note about Raja's kids, saying Yuvan is very good in music. looks like this article came in 80s. Why raajangham guys put the date of the article i dont know.

according to me when i listen to a song the first time even after some time atleast the tune of the song must be in my mind, it was like that during 80's when IR was at his peak, now a song becomes a hit only after repeated hearing and not to say about ARR ,its sad that YSR has also fallen into the category

With some good lyrics, of course, he will
definitely surpass ARR in a short period of time.
He has got the same approach of IR to "adapt"
western music to tfm and not lift straight as
ARR is doing (out of "inspiration", say "copy"
people don't agree!!).

Sara,
This morning I listened to the songs of RISHI.They sounded similar to YSR"S aravindan AND HIS BROTHER kARTHICK"S ullasam. If one had liked the songs of these two films then go for RISHI music.
Film RISHI is new name for old project SREE RAMAJAYAM, delayed due to financial constraints.
Songs of RISHI were recorded in the year 1997 itself. So for me ARIPONA KANGEE PAZHAIYA KANGEE...MUSCAT SUNDER.

I was also disappointed when I heard Rishi for the first time. But after hearing it repeatedly I love "Oh mane mane" and "vaa vaa". But to be honest they are not up to the mark of Poovellaam kaettupaar.

Raaja RASIKAN
ILAYARAAJA first introdced SHANKAR MAHADEVAN in the film RAJASTHAN.( Recorded in February 1998)
The song is SORGATHIL NIKKAH NIKKAH. Yuwan who had recorded TRACK for SREE RAMAJAYAM then used SHANKAR"S voice later .So the credit for introducing SHANKER MAHADEVAN goes to IR.
RASIKA...Ennai madakka pakureye...NAAN super sunderda...

I am listening to Rishi and the very first time I listened to 'Oh Mane Mane' I am impressed.
Here goes the review.
1) Oh Mane Mane Maane - The best song of the album. Very simple orchestration yet very catchy.
Beautifully rendered by HH & SJ. Impresses you the very first time you listen to this song.
2) Vaa Vaa Poove Vaa - Music starts like a very old song. Probably the background for the setting as 1940/50. After the start it turns into a modern song. Another excellent song. Again HH & SJ have done their best job.
3) Kaatrodu - Title song? After 2 or 3 hearings, I started liking this song. Shanker Mahadevan sung this song. Something like Mudhalvane song by ARR.
4)Nilavai Konjam - An Ila Arun type song by Anuradha Sriram. An average song. May be Ramba dancing for this song. Nothing to mention much.
5) Jumbo Idhu - by SPB Charan/Sujatha. Sounds similar to 'Unakkaaka ellam' from 'Unakkaaka Ellam Unakkaaka'. OK song.
Over all a good album (but much better than Thenaali YSR tends to use keyboard a lot (for that matter may be only keyboard). He will be better off using natural instruments too. I see a similarity the way he uses drums/base guitar with ARR. If ARR is running out of stuff, YSR is slowly getting into TFM.
My question is, is this album worth an effort for a Sundar C movie? YSR had done justification as MD.

SM in recent interview for SCREEN magazine has mentioned ,he was introduced to tamil films by IR in RAJASTHAN. This Selvamani movie was also in cans for couple of years. So ranjit barot may be slightly later to IR"S recording. saad

Guys I found this thread was straying slightly to who introduced S.Mahadevan, so I thought I'd bring us back on track with a small review of Rishi.I heard the songs from Rishi and I was very impressed with them. The first song, Vaa Vaa was very catchy and had me enthralled from the start. The song Nilavai Konjam, was a very young fresh song, but I feel that would have been better if sung by someone like Anupama. Sujatha and Hariharan did wonders with the Oh Mane Mane song on both counts. The Kaatrodu puyalai song was very simple but had a good set of vocals and beats. The Jambo song was yet another feather in the cap of YSR using SPB Charan and Sujatha. They did a wonderful repeat performance as they did in Thulli Thulli from UEU, Overall a very good album for the young star after what seems such a long gap after UEU and PKP.
Definately leaves ARR's Thenali miles behind with such an innovative album, Can't wait for the next release. Well done.

ARR's Thenali is not far behind. I have the Thenali/Rishi cd here. Haven't quite listened to it. Being a Diehard fan of ARR, I don't agree that YSR will beat ARR. But instead it will be like Rajni and Kamal. Kamal once said, there is no feud between me and Rajni. The cinema industry makez dat up. Bcoz w/ out diz feud, the industry can't survive. Now here comes the important part. "Its like we are in a horse race, sometimes Rajni's ahead of me, sometimes I'm ahead of him and sometimes we are both neck in neck." Dat is what I think will happen w/ YSR and ARR in the future. Not yet. I must say, Poovellam Kettupar was AWEZOME!! Rishi doesn't compare to dat album.
