"Urugudhe idhayame" of Nooraavathu naal from IR and "ven megame" of "Aayiram jenmangal" from MSV come to my mind. [BTW, why are our TF ghosts only beautiful women, white sari ,jasmine clad?]

This has nothing to do with TF ghosts. I dont exactly remember the hindi movie. In that as well, the ghost comes in white costume. No jasmine but........Guess the color white is attributed to ghosts

Most of TF ghosts look for revenge. Like these women would have been raped by some big Zamindar and would have killed her. Paran,
There were two Tamil films, 'idhayak kamalam' with KRV and 'yaar nee?' with Jai and Jayalalitha, somewhat like 'woh kaun thee?' of Hindi. 'naanE varuvEn' was from one of them. Much later, in 'uththaravinRi uLLE vaa', there was a 'pEy' song with Ramaprabha and Nagesh ' thEnaaRRangaraiyinilE thEy piRaiyin iravinilE mOhini pOl vanthEn naathaa'. There was another song in an Indo-Srilankan venture (not sure if it was released!), 'kadhavith thattiya mOhinippEy'- 'nadu jaamaththil vanthEnE, enaip paarththu Ekkam EnO? un aasai niRaivERavE....'. And then there was 'nadu iravil' which had an eerie song with Sowcar on the piano ' kaN kaattum jaadaiyilE kaaviyam kaNdEn!andhak kaaviyaththil sOgamenum Oviyam kaNdEn!'. Further down the line, Jai's 'thuNivE thuNai' had a song ' aagaayaththil thottil kattum mangai oruththi vanthaaL! aasai koNdu thEril ERi nEril ingE vanthaaL! peNNaagaththaan vanthEn inRu kaNNaa unthan sontham koNdu....', the mother of all 'pEy' songs!

Ah man, its around 9 am here, and I'm totally creeped out reading about the pei songs.
wasnt there a movie with kamal... he was a ghost and stuff I think it was a double act? there was a song in it... But I think it was a funny song of some sort.
Oh and the song from Idayathai irudathaey...
Something that doesnt sing about about peis but gives me the creeps... "anarkali" from KKS got that haunting tune

Japan-il Kalyanaraman? That is more a comedy film than a pei film!!
I guess there should be better pei songs than what we have listed. How about "Thriller"? :-)

Enge Nimmadhi song has one damsel turning up out of the blue and haunting Sivaji.
BTW, sometime in the 80s, there was one good TV serial where in one of the episodes, there was something like a girl possessed who strangles her husband in the end with the words, "Naan thaan un neeli!". If I remember right, the story goes very smoothly without much of a suspicion raised about the gal. Anyone who remembers, plizzz give the serial name, it featured during the Golden age of DD serials(89-91)

curryleaf, we're talking about tamil peis here and i don't think they get a tourist/immigration visa that fast to torment you!
BTW, I watched Mahanadhi late night and KH's MIL's cackling voice and the Peigalai nambathey song spooked me!

-The udukkai with witchdoctor verse interlude in "kaathirundhu kaathirundhu kaalangal poaguthadi" is the eeriest thing ever in TFM
-"devathai ilam devi" has some cheesy creepy noises in the middle
-a silly song in "idhayathai thirudaathae", "kaattukkullae vaettaiyaadum"
-"kungumak koalangaL" from "Annan Oru Kovil" (another thalaivirikoala song)
-the background vocals in "engae nimmadhi" sounds like an alarming swarm of bats coming at you
-the shrieking violins and depressed singing by KJY make for an eerie experience in "sriraamanin srideviyae" from "Priya"
- From: purv (@ 198.38.6.253)

Udhaya, in your first selection, was that the first or second interlude, or both? (Factually, there was no second interlude, but just some man shouting- was it Vijaykanth or someone else?)
THe first interlude, with the lady vocalizing; 'Ye aariro aariro aariro Hoo aariro aariro aariro' also gives me the chills.
