Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Song of the Day: uravenum pudhiya vaanil from nenjaththaik kiLLaadhE.

Another SPB/SJ gem to end this week. Is there anything in this song that is not fascinating? The song sounds so fresh even after 20 years or so. IR has freaked out in this song. Wonder how much creative input Mahendran had in this song, making it so different from others.

- Lyrics is by GA : http://www.newtfmpage.com/tfsa/english/songs/nenjkill.htm

Friends,
It was sometime in 1979, when I was seven years old - we were in Mangalore - our next door neighbours were a group of bachelors - they used to take this kid next door ( that is me) to a beach near Mangalore - ULAAL Beach - the approach to the beach is awesome - a straight road going uphill with the trees on both sides slowly giving way to shrubs and then no vegetation - by this time, the road reaches the top of the incline and as this point approaches, my mind used to fill up with a thrill as if we were going to drop out from the edge of this world itself -and Lo! behold, from the top of the incline the road climbs on a downward slope and you have a breathtaking view of the Ullaal beach especially on a rainy , murky day with thin needle like drizzle caressing you - these neighbour bachlors used to have some kind of an audio set, playing this song -

A fantastic piece of work from IR which gives a haunting feeling. vijay - a senior DFer - once commented that he associates(imagines) the initial flute prelude to a the flight of a kite slowly going from visibile region into obscurity. There are some songs of IR which had a lot of slow rock influences. This I guess is one. Some other fantastic songs suggested to hear along are:
(1) malare malare ullaasam
(2) uravugaL thodarkathai
(3) kanavil midhakkum idhayam muzudhum
(4) thuLLi ezundhadhu paaattu
(5) ellOrukkum nalla kaalam uNdu
(6) nalam vaaza ennaaLum
(7) poovile mEdai naan pOdava
(8) oru peNpuraa - by deva
These songs are seemingly 'lazy' and reduce the momentum of the mind of the listener by entering it in a peaceful, calming manner. A perfect number for listening alone or together (dont ask with who :-) )

MS, the "original" lazy song is Thennangkeetru oonjalile, which was not topped until Vidhyasagar came with Malare mounama. Even his own Nee kaatru naan maram could not dent the laziness of the former. :)

In dhooL.com, lyrics for the song 'alaipaayuthE' from 'alaipaayuthE' is categorised under VM. It is actually Ooththukkaadu Venkatasubba Iyer. Pl. have it corrected.

What a beauiful song !
When i first heard this song was struck with disbelief. Tamizhil ippadi oru paatta !
For me this is always a once more song.
Mind soothing prelude with a humming that caresses the heart, gently, very gently.
The pallavi tune makes the mind stop all other work and brings all the attention to the music - only this music. The first interlude music starting with the guitar piece and this is when the mild percussion also enters, starts filling the nerves one by one. And when the violins take over the body is full of music. What a great saranam tune -'Paarvai Ovvondrum Koorum...' and i am floating, floating, floating... until the end of the song.
The final humming of SPB will continue to haunt me for the next couple of seconds. I then start hearing the noises around me and back to this world. Great singing by SPB/SJ. One of my all time favourite and THANKS bb for GIVING me such a great weekend.

I really wonder what some reviewers will do when presented with songs like this to review-when the current songs are reviewed with eack tinks and tonks and plinks and plonks given their due, songs like this and rakkamma-their reviews will run into pages.
The flute at the end of the strings before the songbegins -if there is a musical equivalent of breaking out in gooseflesh-this is it!

This is one of the many jewel's in IR's crown and it is so soothing to hear the voice of young SPB and it gives a feeling of hearing the ocean waves in a lonely beachside. This rythm plays all over you. The other highlight of this song is the video. This visuals and the song gel so well to the situation. Hats off...Also check the ye...thendraley song (P.Susheela).

Anand,
it was my mindset at that time period. it was schooldays and my favourite listenings were then Australian Countdown, BBC top ten etc. used to listen to tamil songs too but never put my pocket money on to it. this song bowled me over the first time i heard it. years later, today, it is one of my top favourite.

I recently read a story. Once MSV's group and Chandrababu went to Delhi and they were invited to the then President Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan's
residence. He asked them to sing. Someone brought a
harmonium and MSV gave the key and JP sang his
tear jerker: "Pirakkumbodhum azhuginran". Radhakrishnan listened to the whole thing and then
commented "what a meaningful song and what an emotion". JP got very delighted and he jumped into
the Presidents lap and with his fingers caught hold
of President's chin and said, "Kannu, nee periya
rasiganda". Everybody was shocked but then all laughed including the President.
