what happened to these singers ?

hai all.,
do u remember 'preethi uttamsingh' ?
i remember 2 tamil & one hindhi song by her., all MDed by IR., both the tamil songs were superhit ('kaathal vaanile.,' - with SPB from 'rasayya' & 'allah un aanaippadi.,' with Unnikrishnan from 'chandralekha'but i can't see her name in any of the mags or cassette covers till today.,
what happened to this good singer
do u have any info.,
i extend this question by adding one more great sinmger to this list - mithali - sung 'yamunai aatrile.,' in 'talapathy'., i don't know any other tamil song sung by her !

  In an earlier interview before the audio release of Dil To Pagal Hai(before he became famous of course) Uttam Singh talked about his association with IR (He was a musician in IR's orchestra) and that he is one of his inspirations...
  And that's why I thought Preeti is probably Uttam Singh's daughter.

  i have no idea whether preethi is the daughter of DTPH MD uttam singh., but the sound engineer for the film 'Rasayya' (in which preethi was introduced by IR) is one Uttamsingh., this may be the fellow who MDed DTPH., (according to KRs statement., today's Sound Engineers become sucessful MDs) when i got Rasayya cassette., i thought Preethi is the wife of that sound engineer.,

  I wouldn't be surprised if the Uttam Singh of Rasayya is the same as the Uttam Singh of DTPH. In fact, I found some IR influence in DTPH- in particular, the title song from DTPH has a flute + humming piece, which has some stylistic resemblance to IR. In most other respects, the music of DTPH is quite mediocre..

  uttam singh was indeed the sound engineer for raasayya, and went on to become MD for DTPH. he was also the sound engineer and did some orchestration stuff for ram laxman too. uttam singh has worked with IR in other films also.

  Uttam Singh was sound engineer for a lot of movies
  from RD Burman days. In fact, you can see him in
  one or two movies in which Film music is involved
  in the story ('naan paadum paadal' style of movies)
  Only recently has he done his own MDing but he's
  been in the field for a long time now.
  
  Mitali is quite a famous singer in the North. Donno
  why she stopped with that one song in Dalapathi.
  Both she and her husband are very good and very famous singers.

  For ur information guys,
  Preethi happens to be the daughter of Uttam singh the MD of Dil to paghal hai. Infact she has sung a song in HEY RAM too. She has done an album by the very famous NAUSHAD along with hariharan. The album contained ghazals.
  Infact uttamsingh had very long standing relationship with IR. In his photo session released in Aanatha vikatan IR had wriiten the following incident. IR and KR were once in varanasi. It was Uttam singh who took them for a ride in a cycle rickshaw. While about to take bath IR was spotted by a telugu man and soon was surrounded by so many people. Uttam singh took control of the situation. Then IR and Uttam singh were engaged in wrestling and Kartik Raja was taking bath in ganges. Suddenly KR started shouting for help. IR stood shocked. It was Uttam singh who jumped in to the river and brought back KR. The most interesting part in that inciddent is that KR knows to swim very well where as Uttam singh did not know swimming.
  Regarding the female who sang the song yamunai aatrilea from thalapathi, i think she was a mumbai based carnatic singer. Has sang songs for R.D.Burman. S.P.sailaja once told this in the programme humma humma in raj tv. check it out.

  Uttam Singh and Ilaiyaraaja share a very close bond. Both respect each other very much. Uttam Singh was basically an "arranger" before he became a full-fledged composer. He has arranged several of Ilaiyaraaja's music including the background music of "Shiva" in Hindi. By the way, has anyone heard the entire theme that appears at the end of the Hindi version of Nagarjuna starrer "Shiva". Pure Raja and Uttam magic. One way to recognize an Uttam arrangement is to look for some fantastic natural strings (not keyboard strings). And yes, Preethi is the daughter of Uttam Singh.
  
  I think the inside cover of "India 24 hours" CD has a photograph where both Raja and Uttam are present.

  It is nice to see tha ARRahman is giving chances to TK kala in the film "duet" which had only one duet song for meenakshi seshadri (I dare no MAN MD could have done it other than ARR). Sirkazhi sang for Indra and Jodi. He is also invited for the British ballet music composed by AR Rahman. TL Maharajan has sung for tamil dubbing of Taal. Singers like Srinivas have got their place in Hindi, which no one could have dreamt years ago (Remember the hell Vani Jairam had?),.
  
  New singers are getting their due with MDs like Sangeetharajan introducing seerkazhi in his songs, Mr.Narathar by Sirpi, Kovilpatti Veeralakshmi by Aadityan, Aslam mustafas latest movie, Manuneethi of Deva etc which are popular hits with new voices.
  
  The old MDs have to think new!
