A good singer and a friend of mine, Raja Govindarajan, met S.P.B at Chennai a couple of months back. During their conversation, SPB mentioned that he doesn't remember/have a lot of old rare songs that he has sung and would love to recollect them and have them in his collection. Raja then told SPB about newtfmpage and Song Of The Day section and the discussions that take place there. He then offered to give SPB a set of old songs.
Fast Forward to today; I prepared a set of 41 songs, and a 90 page booklet on the songs. All these songs are old SOTDs and the booklet contained the discussions on these songs. SPB came to the Bay Area today for a concert at Hayward. I met him at the backstage before the concert with Udhaya. We gave him the CDs and the booklet and talked with him for a few minutes. SPB was very courteous and thanked me several times. I was surprised that he made time to to even see us and accept this, just half an hour before the concert. I told him that we have a lot of knowledgeable people and huge collection of his songs, so if he wanted more we could give him whatever information he wanted.
The booklet that I gave him is here: http://www.dhool.com/sotd/spb.pdf .
The 3 CDs that I gave him included 4-5 more songs that are not in this list, like 'vaa ponmayilE', 'malarE ennenna kOlam' and 'thErOttam'.
Hopefully, if SPB goes through the CDs and the text, he will be impressed with the selection and would get back to me or RajaG with his comments.

bb,
Good job. All credit should go to you and every other valuable contributor. Nothing like it if this can be of use to the artistes themselves.

bb,
Thanks for your efforts. I hope that you continue to get due recognition and compliments for your wonderful work. When I think about life-altering events, the day I accidentally found newtfmpage.com (it used to be hosted on coldfusion then I believe) truly ranks way up there.
Good luck.

Any chance of hearing a famous Sathyam, originally in Telugu i think and dubbed in Tamil "Ramba, Urvasi, Menaka", by SPB. Very popular in Radio SriLanka days 70s.

Guys! Some of us may have an opportunity to discuss with Mr.SPB some topics regarding TFM/playback singing/lyrics/BGM etc. If you have any topics or suggestions please post them here. We will try to get his perspective on the topic.

Thanks for a great compilation. I printed the PDF doc and read it on my way back home not missing one single word. Thanks also to Saravanan, Udhaya and others who made this list possible.
Great work!
Bb/RajaG question to SPB:
Other Singers have their audio companies like KJY, Chithra and Vani Jayaram. I am not aware of any such audio company/label associated with SPB?
If that is true, can you please ask him why had he not shown interest in starting his own audio company sevring his as well as younger talents

Here are few of my questions :
1. For which song/songs he found the tunes difficult to grasp and hence had to take longer time than usual to get the grip of the tune
2. To name a few instances where he felt his cosinger outdid him in terms of improvisation/sangathis/brigas
3. Which song/songs tested his vocal range to the maximum
4.For which song/songs he had to even reconstruct the tune to bring it to some listenable form(I have heard from sources , there were many )
5. secret of his ever youthful voice( does he believe in rigourous riyaaz )
6. What he feels about today's way of punching line by line or even words when compared to yesteryear's way of singing at one go.

Dear BB,
Excellent work, hatts off, where did you get the time to compile such list, I would suggest few changes to your PDF, if you don't mind :)
1) Instead of Mr. it would be great, if you could address SPB as Padmashree Dr.SPB, which will make this genius stand out from the rest!
2) You have mentioned, one song, which I have been enquiring for ages, that is , 'KanNe enN azhagu raani radha', a description of SPB's awsome rendertion of this song would not be over exegarated.
Thanks a lot for adding most of my favouites songs like
1) Angum ingum paathai
2) Kanne enn azhagu raani ratha
3) Nadihanin Kadhali
4) Maargazhip paniyil

Dear BB,
There is one error in your PDF, the song
'Madhanotsavam Rathi yodu thaan' has been inspired by Adithyan in a song 'Azhagoviyam uyiranathe' in some Murali film (Kadhal Rojave?? ), not by Deva, pls do pardon me if I am wrong!

excellent work bb, udhaya, rajaG & others. what you've done is the best way to say thanks for all that we've received from SPB. hopefully he'll get back to you.
hopefully, this crusade to get to the rare gems gets enough market & makes the audio companies to release these gems as compilations.
