Arularasae,
Raj has explained my case. I guess I didn't make it clear. Those were my examples of good lyricists, I absolutely adore RVU and the other two. I also wish Mu. Mehtha and Muthulingam would make a strong come back.

Udhaya sir, Unga postingle innoru vishayamum clear-a illai. Either that or enakku kurumbu kkonjam jaasthi. You state two facts in that posting:
1.Hire someone with an MA degree in Thamizh but who preferably has no knowledge of even conversational English and have that person write the lyrics.
2.This is so evident when listening to songs penned by Vaasan (Poonthoattam), Arivumathi(siraichchaalai)and R.V.
Udhayakumar (Kizhakku Vaasal, Ponnumani, Chinnakounder).
Are the two facts related?? I mean, RVU, AM and V dont have conversational knowledge of English???!!!
Chumma dhjksfl stuff thaan. Thappa eduthukkadheenga.:)
Actually, I have heard RVU stating he ha "Sosial consius" meaning "social consciousness". Also, he has this habit of throwing in English words in between sentences . Like,
"Appo ellam Naanga Villagejob illama round adichitturuppom....".
Stil, it is undeniable that he comes up with some wholesome lyrics that reminds one of the beauty of Tamil language

Udhaya:
I'll disagree with your statement that knowing English should be a disqualification to penning Tamil lyrics. Case in point, yourself & several other friends in TFM forum who can express eloquently in both languages!

Suresh and Raj,
preferably has no knowledge of even conversational English
was written sarcastically after suffering through many PazhaniBhaarathi and Vairamuthu songs. Of course, I don't believe knowledge in one language has anything to do with writing in another.
Raj,
You are very deviously reading between the lines here, but I get the gist of kurumbu.

Udhaya sir, Chumma thamash thaan:) . But I am glad you see that It is only kurumbu. BTW, I have been inviting people to the "Songs discussion" thread right, left and centre. Let me take this opportunity to invite you to provide your valued opinion on the song"Azhagiya Kannae..",which is my favourite, in that thread. Also, I dont understand some aprts of the lyrics. i would be intereted to have your opinion.
TIA(Thanks in Advance)!

I am one of Raja's biggest fans and I have in my collection all the movies he has composed (at least 1 song from each movie). His songs have given me a great pleasure over many many years. The opening lyrics of many hits are by him and the rest of the song are written by song writers(Nila athu, Nethu Rathiri, Thooliylae etc). He was at his peak till the early 90s. He still produces some masterpieces once in a while.

i`m ir`s ardent fan.my only hope is that ir & arr joint venture in a movie.``ithu oru sangamam``.ir and his former ``sisiyen``(arr) joining forces.if this happens , it will not only be a super-hit movie, but also will help to ease tensions between the fans of these two MD`s.

There is nothing more for IR to accomplish - he has done it all, all composers, bands every body put together of all time! I will tell you why.
I rememeber when i started this thread 5 years ago havin been visitin since 1997, I had not been keepin track of IR songs from 1985 thru 1996 until KM came. even after that i did not catch up thinkin that IR was composing in a boring style unlike the raunchy early 10 years of his career. To tell youthe thruth, I was proved wrong upon catchin up to about 25% of the missed albums. I think IR has done some composition or the other is all known genres of the world and introduced vocabulary as Prasanna would say beyond what was around. Example: Pongatrile in Paatu Paduva (all of Paul Mauriat' instrumental genius - who incidentally only brings instrumental version of pop soundtracks - is completely outdone in that PP song)
Like Maharajanodu in SLeelavathi - simply outrageous ideas in the interludes.
Another example in the 80s, listen to MMMK song Rumbum Bum - he has out done Elvis Presley and made it a rocknroll for the 21st century.
Guru (Mal) goes without mention - Hollywood Ben_Hur soundtrack outdone with some ecstatic orchestral pieces
Sound Of Music of let us Hollywood Musical or (Non-Folk India style )level sophistication in songs - Avatharam, Oru Ooril Rajakumari (Oru Myna Kunju)
Mana Pona Pokkil in Kadhal Rojavey is a world class ballad, ballad' we hardly see in India films.
There are many examples, but it is my satisfaction and happiness to say that Raaja Raajadhan Netrum Indrum Eppovumey THE RAAJADEVA OR DEVARAAJA OF MUSIC. ( Only thing I miss from Raaja is a pure "singer" song MSV style? Ninaivaley Silai Seythu Unakkaga Vaithen or Kanchi Pattuduthi ;---) Pardon me, but because of IR' own lowe of MSV' genius did I start listening to MSV himself !!!!! Perhaps MSV is the Brahma!!!!)

Iam a 55 year old man who grew up on MSVs music and then really graduated with Rajas music.Although I was exposed to carnatic music as a child my real interest was kindled in carnatic music by Raja.He is simply great

On the opening night of Bombay Dreams in London, Lloyd Webber embraced Rahman at the end of the show, saying he had composed the sweetest and best music he had heard in his 'entire entire life.'
http://in.rediff.com/movies/2003/dec/19rahman.htm
rajdhan: there is no need, because of this
in 10-15 years i feel there will a retrospective on IR' film music and a musical will be made (not by Indians or even south Indians) but possibly by the French (who love south Indian art forms to amazing levels). let me tell you one thing: there will have been no musical like this on this side of the milky way galaxy.
i expect the musical will have the best musicians of the world competing for a position that will last for decades. it is almost a career for world' best musicians and singers. that is one predicition. A MUSICAL THAT HAS NO PEERS, AFTER SYMPHONUIES FROM IR HIMSELF THAT WILL HAVE NO COMPARISON! I doubt another composer can be born with this intense energy for churning out musical ideas like floods that make oceans and later give life to almost all known life in the universe, atleast in this side of the milky way galaxy.
then you got to know of the applications of IR' ideas in general, that itself will occuply volumes of efforts from world class orchestras. this is just tip of the iceberg.
But, let us thank Rahman for his generous and courageous efforts, if not for that IR would not have composed the first symphony itself.
Raaja, kavalayapadaathinga sir, time is going to revolve around music sir. that is it, that is when time stops sir.

another point, if Lloyd webber though hearing Bombay Dreams is the best he did in his entire life, imagine how many lifetimes he has to take to appreciate IR or the other great film composers. i am very amused, Mr. Webber. keep going yes, please keep going.

I do not wish anything for IR..except happiness and more recognition for the rest of his life. I think I would be happy for him to be himself as he was when he was so prolific in composing in the 80s..Like MSV, I think he has given far beyond what a person in his role can give...a lot of us in early days have listened to his songs almost paying nothing..compare that to buying a CD of some rap artist these days or any classical CD...I do not think that having received so much from him as I grew up, having delight almost everytime I listen to his songs, there is so much I need to give him in some form of appreciation I feel sometimes..For some of us his music has been the sole form of liberation and entertainment in the stale 70s and 80s.....
A lot of us here talk about him sometimes beyond reasonableness....a healthy and insightful discussion is OK to explore and understand the idosyncrazies of IR...but he is human after all and is subject to emotions like anybody else..except for his superhuman abilities in composing some of the songs..so I wish that he be given some slack in this regard..it is really pointless to overly criticize beyond some healthy point as this is undeserved..It took me over 10 years or so to really understand what his music is..strangely this came apparent only after I started listening to western classics...I wish lot of us should listen quite a good number of western classicals in order to understand what he has tried to do opportunistically in the interludes..

That's very true coz he has was only introduce to indian music thru ARR's music. It started there and ended there. What else do you expect him to say.
