Kupps
Take a moment and read my very first posting again. Sollavendiyathai sollivittu naan poyitte iruppen. But, yaaru vittaa?
FYI, I have no intention to fight with you. You directed queries at me and I am forced to respond. What is so wrong with that?
If you want to get petty, go and read again my posting about sivapoojai. There was NOTHING about sivalingam. That's being petty for you.
Neenga ozhiga sollura goshti.
ABAANDAM!
Ilayaraaja ozhiga endru naan engeyaavathu, eppozhuthaavathu, oruthadavaiyaavathu sonnenaa? Appadi oru ennam ungal manathil irunthu veliye vanthirukkalaam.
eeyaththa paathu piththaLa iLichchadhu, spectacle pottirukkaradhu naan illa neenga.
I have never denied the regards due to IR. I also know how to treat an artiste and not get carried away. In your eyes, IR cannot do any wrong; tell me who is biased?
Justification is needed if a false pointer is made.
Exactly. The statement "In this area (emotionals), Raja is the undisputed Raja!" is WRONG. Netrikann thirappinum kuram kutramey!

ROTFL, i am not expecting your response to this, if you have any Maanam and Mariyadhai, stay away from responding to me. If not, you are a SoriNaayi who can't resist the 'Itch'.

Guys..I have been listening to one song in thanik kAttu rAja ..the album I have been ignoring because of some songs like 'naan thaan toppu..meethiyellAm doopu' :) . The song I am referring to is - rAsAvE unna naan enniththaan..This song is really fantastic..the recording is what enhances. It is not just the clarity ..even the style of mixing..instruments in the foreground and vocals far behind is very much like what modern MDs like ARR, YSR etc do. I am not sure why IR did not continue this style of recording and mixing..Maybe in those conservative day people might have complained that the instruments are overpowering the melody..Anyways..this is a great song. In principle, I think, IR does justice to the mood of the situation all the time..when the lyrics are meaningful and nice the song gets a double boost.

vai karayil vaigai karayil from payanangaL mudivathillai. A sad song (not a azhugai song, though). Giving the emotion of the situation perfectly. Kudos to SPB and VM(ah! Kupps do u mean this to VM?) who did a perfect job in addition to IR's.

adadA...namma oru statement'kku ivvaLu postingsA?
Even earlier I made a statement in another thread that KJY & KSC top in making the songs emotional and Raja had made good use of them (in spite of not having great lyrics / movie situations which were far more advantageous to MSV-TKR)...no doubt there had been songs that move you before Raja's entry, but I can give only limited credit to MD (KD & the likes take more than 50% share, situations & picturisations were quite great emotionally...often if you have not seen the film, the song cannot evoke emotions those days...)
Raja's case is different...I had no chance to see the visuals of most of his very emotional songs & majority of those I saw were pathetic too. The lyrics too do not touch your heart by and large (what's so great in the lines of `thAlAttu mARippOnadhE?). In spite of these, the song gets into your bloodstream powerfully...hence more credit to the MD. Why, a non-filmy album like HTNI (especially the title piece) moves one so much with emotions...
I repeat my statement more emphatically...in comparison to MSV, TKR, KVM (& those before Raja and after Raja till today), Raja is undisputed KING in this area...I'm game for discussion on this aspect if one is interested to quote song by song...which we can take apart and analyse!

Eden, something like emotional appeal is highly personal. I really dont see how u can take apart and analyse this. Granted Raja may be the king for YOU in this department. That is your opinion. Others may feel different. I personally dont agree. And that's my opinion. Not that there is anything to analyse or discuss there as my emotions and what appeals to me remains for me to decide.
IMO, alot of other TFM MDs ranging from S-G, TR, to ARR have emotional appeal in their songs. So IMO no one stands as The KING in this department.
Raghu, do u want to specify exactly what you mean by "emotional appeal"?? Happiness is an emotion too...so wud a song like "kaattukkuyilu manasukkulla" qualify as a song full of emotion?
Having stepped into this thread, here is my token contribution.
-nee partha parvai (hey ram)

WhyNot - "Oliyile" - that's a good mention.... i did not like this song until i saw the movie.... wow, what a perfect fit.... hats off to ThangarBachan, IR and the lyricists..... it was picturised very well, and the adoloscent kid, oh man, Thangarbachan, really got the best out of him in that song.....

WN;
What I meant By emotional Appeal is mainly pathos, which stirs your soul big time, I do not agree with u about ARR doing justice to pathos song except "En kadhale en kadhale" by SPB from Duet & awsome rendertion of "En atha enai tha vittu poona" by KJY from "Uzhavan", ARR has not got chance next to IR when it comes Pathos, mind u, I am no HCIRF or HCARR

"I do not agree with u about ARR doing justice to pathos song"
Funny I dont remember making any statements abt ARR in relation to pathos song. ALL i remember saying is that songs by a wide range of MDs (among whom I included ARR) have an emotional appeal to me.
So ur thread is worded wrongly.
I dont give a damn if ur a HCARRF, HCIRF, HCSPBF and neither do i care if u think IR is better than ARR, MSV or Imaan in pathos, rap or therukoothu. I did NOT make any comparisons and make any statements like this MD is better than that MD. Too bad u can only remember 2 songs by ARR. That is ur loss. But u dont have to cheapen ur thread by unnecessarily bringing in the same old ARR vs IR bullcrap. And after this dont make ur usual hue and cry about 'stick to the topic'. U made a very unwarranted statement and tat jus reflects upon ur maturity level. If u want to play to the crowds, go ahead and entertain urself. I'm not going to waste my time arguing with u any further.
btw, ROTFL forgot to mention tat lallang is a weed.
