I read an article on Kandukonden Kandukonden`s audio cassette release function in todays online Hindu in "talk of the town" section.VM sems to be very much frustrated with ARR especially the way in which his lyrics are treated by ARR of late!. Is it his response to the comment about the so called `lyrics` in Alaipayudhe?. Infact VM seems to have quoted the songs of "kandukonden Kandukonden" as one those examples. Guys, any comments.

Please read it carefully, he is all praise for ARR for his musical abilities.
His request to ARR was to score music in such a way that tamilians from kashmir to kumari are able to understand the lyrics. My request to VM is on the similar lines. "please write lyrics with tamil words which are understandable and sane."
There were also other comments. eg Balachander "ARR pOndra isai mEdhaigaL nooru varudangaLukku oru muRai thaan thOndruvaargaL"..wondering if MSV had aged so much or IR had also become a centurion :-)

there is nothing wrong in variamuthu telling arr to
put music to understand tamil words otheriwse you
cannot sing a song only hum the song.only with arr music
you can know what singer is singing.ms ir and msv are
old than rahuman only.

Q: There is a widespread criticism that today's movie songs are very noisy and in that noise the words of the lyric are mutilated. What do you think about that?
A: In some songs, that criticism is valid. We strive to slowly rectify this. You need to understand one thing. The world is becoming noisy. The vehicles of today, war cries in the world, the noise of machinery, the noise of life surround the man. So he expresses noise in a noisy way. Western music has worldwide influence. It has also affected Tamil music. With that, the Western musical instruments, Western beat, method and noise have also come. Yet, the songs that linger are not noisy ones. They are sweet with good ideas and rich imagination. They beautifully depict emotions. They have stood the time. They will continue to stand. Youngsters' attitude is slowly changing. They were prepared to dance for a noisy beat. At one time, music was meant for ears only. Now, it is for the whole body. It jerks and makes the body dance. For this, the youth seeks music. In such a situation, noise is unavoidable. As time goes on, when musical appreciation changes, the melody will re-emerge.

K Balachander is a wierd guy. He will curse Rajini when he is a new comer and now when he is a big star he will publicly apologize. I am not sure what he said about Ilayaraaja when his music based (like sindhu bhairavi) movies became a hit. And now this vain praise for ARR. He is a good director but I would never take him seriously.
Well, I think ARR is doing a favor to Vairamuthu :)

otherwise his career is waste.kb introduced rajni.without him rajni
is gone.he gave hit films without ir also.whatever you guys say,kb is a great director
he can survive without ir or arr or rajni.

Im afraid that ARR may not take vairamuthu along with him to london... because of his recent advice to ARR, other wise he could "kottify" in tamil, some body would translate in eng. so the POP people have the best of the world.

After reading some articles and listening to interviews I can understand the frustration VM feels as a lyricist.
- I heard VM say regretfully in an interview that the song, "Velli malarae" from Jodi was originally conceived as "Kondrai Malarae", but was changed because the director or producer felt that the audience wouldn't get what kondrai malar means as they felt it wasn't too popular a flower. So if producers dictate what flowers songs should contain, we're stuck with roja, malli, mullai, and occasionally thamarai or thaazhampoo.
- Last year, a Kumudham article focused on the process of how a song gets recorded. The Kumudham crew covered a Deva recording for a movie starring Murali and Paarthiban. The regressive scene for the song: Paarthiban regrets his sister falling for a dark skinned Murali and his sister has to sing a song about the beauty of dark skin. The director explains the scene to Deva and VM. Deva cranks out a melody with his harmonium which the director says is too melodious and wants something fast and catchy. VM steps out to think about the song and takes off along the lines of "amman silai karuppu, iravin niram karuppu, etc." He comes back into the discussion room with his first draft and the director says that the song is too poetic and serious, and wants something catchy. In the end, Deva has a fast number down and the song starts like this, "Karuppu enakku pudichcha coloru, en maaman mugam nooru waatts poweru".
After reading this article I had to have a stiff drink to stomach the travesty.
-In Mudhalvan, there is a second version of "Kurukku siruththavalae" which goes, "Anichcha malar azhagae, achchu vellap paechazhagae". This sounded better to me than the usual "kungumaththai karaichchavalae" sentiments in "Kurukku siruththavalae". I'm not apologizing for VM who trapped himself in a formula of his own doing, but maybe he is also in a bind to cater to producers and directors whose IQs are lower than their shoe sizes.

Udhaya,
Re: Deva song. ROFLMAO :)
This is what will happen if kids drop out of high school and runaway to Madras to become directors. And that too what they do to become a director is not read up/learn stuff but hang around some directors buying tea/cigarettes for them. The guy who used to play cricket with me but never made it past high school is a asst director now. I wouldnt be surprised if becomes a director soon.

Q : Some people laughs at the announcement that your birthday should be celebrated as "kavingargal thinam"...
A : Only some, not many, right... Well, when Galileo said earth is sphere... ppl laughed at him, when Wright Brothers said we can fly... ppl laughed at them. Everything will be treated like this at fisrt. It should be like this too. Because its the first form of acceptance. Ok, how about u... are u one amoung the some or the many?

Dear friends
Ibeliev the whole article quotes VM in the wrong context. I think he was trying to say that KK2 songs were actually better in melody and brings out his lyrics better. This has probably been quoted as though he said that ARR drownsha drowned his songs in other movies.
Anyway that is only my way of seeing this issue. If VM wants anymore ARR movies may be he can steal this line of thought from me:-):-)
