A great great loss to not only to Tamil film industry but also to Indian Film Industry and to the world. I can say with no exaggeration that he can easily be rated in the top 5 actors in the world of all times.
Let us recall some of his best songs
1. Kallellam Maanika Kall Aguma
2. Ennai Yaar Endri Enni Enni (paalum Pazhammum)
3. Malarthum Malaradha
4. Aval Parandhuponalle.
5. Satti Sutadhda. (alayamani)
....
Let us all give the "kanneer Anjalli" to this greatest actor of tamil film who has given unforgetable films.

Heart breaking. Pray god for his soul to rest in piece. Only yesterday I posted in other threads that Sivaji = Acting and today he is not among us. The statement holds good for coming hundreds of years.

* Indian movies lost a thespian, an icon
* Indian Govt failed to appreciate, recognize & honour his service to Indian cinema.

Before shivaji there was a not a keen distinction between various emotions in the films. HE revolutionized the film industry with his versatility and greats like MSV and KVM gave him their best tunes for which he did a fantastic job. It is a void forever.

A great actor is no more. I feel that he deserved much more respect and recognition than what he got.
He was one actor who inspite of political ambitions did not use his movies to create a false image. Compare this to today's actors who portray themselves as martyrs and supermen contrary to their true colors. It seems to me that he just enjoyed acting and simply did not care about anything else. Almost every top-hero today carefully tailors(interferes?) everything from story to music to dialogues to develop his image and box-office standing. I wonder if Sivaji ever did anything like that. It looks (at least to me) like he would act in any kind of movie and in any kind of role. His choice (or non-choice) of movies/roles in the seventies and eighties left much to be desired and probably contributed to the decline of his popularity. For example, the movie (his last movie?) in which he plays a Karagattam dancer leaves you wondering how some one of his stature would even consider acting in a movie of such poor quality. Likewise his political forays and decisions also did not work.
May his soul rest in peace!

His presence on screen is a phenomenon on its own. Electric.
If another actor is talking and Sivaji is just listening to his conversation, reaction on Sivaji's face would be much more enjoyable than the action of the actor! I have seen this many times, after a friend once pointed out this.
We grew up, child hood filled with his movies. Man, what an age of innocence! I had a relative who maintained thousands of paper clips with his images and collected all 'paattu pusthagam' - the 8 page lyrics books from every movie.
His control and confidence on the screen is unparalleled. Even though, his style of expressive action fell out of favour in the late seventies, his hits upto that point are a source of never ending pleasure.
For Rajini and Kamal, he was the inspiration. He himself had no one to learn from. In this sense, he was a real genius.
I am sure most Tamils would feel more sad on passing away of Sivaji than their own grand-dads. It is because he occupied more of our psyches than even our fathers and grandfathers did.
