What Makes AR Rahman Special - Revised

Due to the hijacking of the thread by ARR detractors, a lot of useful discussions were sent to old responses. The purpose of this thread is to remove all extraneous postings of the original thread and stick to the topic. I sincerely hope that this thread will be allowed to continue without unnecessary comments.
All ARR detractors are kindly requested NOT To post in this thread.


What makes AR Rahman really special? Why does his music cause so much excitement and flurry? What is the difference that AR Rahman offers that no one else offers.
From his first movie Roja, ARR has caused a HUGE impact on listeners of popular Tamil songs.
Since then each of his movie and songs are closely inspected, loved, tasted and exalted.

Let us take his maiden song, Chinna chinna aasai. What sets this song apart from the 100s of songs of this genre?

Is it the new voice? Is is the impeccable music arrangement? Is it the haunting melody? Or is it just simply oozing of class?

  A R Rahman not only gave me the break (in Dil Se), he taught me a lot of techniques in composing music arrangement and recording. He was the one to impress upon the need to be technically perfect before any producer could be expected to invest in you.

  People become immediately entranced by whatever he composes. Rahman is a phenomenon. He's young and talented. And he has his fingers on the pulse of the young generation. My hopes (for the future) are pinned on A R Rahman.

  Local IR fans u are those who are in an illusion.
  the politicians who are corrupt never think that they are doing anything wrong. the same way though ir has been delivering some trash music u guys still make urself beleive that it is great. IR can only give music to a specific audience whereas arrahman can create wonders universally. if western audiences can enjoy indian music it is only because of the great arrahman. the locally acclaimed ir(phew) did 200 to 300 songs in one year almost 150 to 200 sounding alike whereas the great master did each song to suit a genre. u guys accuse the master of copying but go to the newtfmpage copied forum u will see ir(******) more than the wizard. The only person who can take music to greater heights and boundaries is A R RAHMAN.

  BUT IF U LOOK IR FROM OVER ALL PERSONALITY NO ONE CAN MATCH....
  1. can arr launch a new hero?
  2. can arr launch a new director?
  3. can he guarantee a film money return?
  4. can any one relay on arr for a film success for some reason on bgm or songs?

  I personally don't like the idea of comparing stone(ARR) with mountain(IR). ARR has a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go before he achieves 25% of what IR has achieved. By that time he will be 255 years old!!

  1. Can he give one movie where all the songs are good?
  2. Does even one good director have faith in him?
  3. Does even one good actor support him?

  If you are reasonable, you will notice that this thread is to discuss the speciality of AR Rahman and has nothing to do with IR. And that is why I asked you that question.
  
  1. IR is only giving trash these days. Good recent example is Devan.
  2. No decent director wants to work with IR. All those who work with him are pure jalra cases.
  3. No present day lead actors want to touch him with a pole.
  
  If you cannot agree to all these, you are out of touch with reality.
