suresh,
Thanks for your comments - I had to change my pen name because somebody else with the same pen name published their book before mine, I changed it to 'N. Chokkan' and my short story collection will come in this name ...
Others, Sorry for the digression ...

>>>>>I'd also give YSR the benefit of doubt since he'd find it stupid to lift from, of all the songs, a Vengaboys song, and that too a song which is so damn popular and heard everywhere.
if that is the case then why did ysr copy the tarkan song, which is also very popular, Personally iwouldnt give ysr benefit, and simply say he copied

Any of you heard the Poonagai Poove Songs? I think the audio was released day before yesterday in TN. Can someone give an quick review on the first hearing..

The punnagai Poove songs are not yet availavle in shops, I find this extremely odd but this seems to be the case!
Mann YSR has not copied anything until the Theendi theendi song, and even this for Vengaboys would hardly call it copying as it is not even really a copy. YSR's piece is in a totally different raga. Give him the benefit of the doubt as there is actually no major lifting here.!

NagaS: Tarkan's 'Simarik' was what sort of inspired the opening of the 'Oh shalalala jamaai' in Junior Senior. Mann was drawing a parallel to that instance and I think he's right in a way...going by the kind/amount of similarity in both these cases.

It's a falasy that IR,YSR,ARR don't actually copy and Deva only does. But yes, if you look at it in a creative angle. An artist need inspiration and he puts his more than 80% of it in that song and composed a new one from the old one. What Deva and others do is that they try to reduce their contribution percentage to below zero.
But when we say bluntly Copying is copying then Deva, IR, YSR,ARR all stand in the same stage.

Are Yaar,
I can agree that all artists need inspiration, however Deva is in a different league, he doesn't need just inspiration, he needs a whole song. I feel ARR, IR and YSR are in the same "inspiration" category.

Karthik S,
I heard to the song that U mentioned and it is only a very very small partthat sounds similar that I doubt on whether YSR cud even be "Inspired" from that song.(Can I call that Inspiration?????)

Even copying or inspirations needs to produce some quality and Deva is pretty good in doing that...MDs like Sirpi and SAR do a 100% copy whereas Deva would do a 80% copy with 20% of improvisations that would suit TFM scene..
Take for instance 'Pulveli' and 'Meenamma' from aasai.. Both are genuine lifts but Deva was still able to add some value to suit it to TFM... MDs like ARR,IR & YSR get inspired and their ratio varies between 10 to 50% at times...

Hi! Guys!
One aspect of copying is % of lifting. Other aspects of copying is number of such occurences in one's musical career.
If you take the first aspect, IR & ARR are at par. That is they take inspiration and improvise on that a lot. YSR also can be added to that list as of now.
If you consider the second aspect, IR is great than any other. Out of his 830 plus movies, people can identify a handful of incidences only. This too, if one close look at that is at his initial stage. After crossing 400 and odd movie, we do not see him doing that, even for inspiration or I might say that such occurence is very rare for him.
ARR comes next to him, where we can find some occurences in first 100 movies. But I feel he too will reduce and get more matured to add more originality in future.
In the newcomers YSR is good and so as Vidya Sagar. Kartik Raja shines once in a while. I am expecting good music to come from Ramesh Vinayagam too.
In fact, I feel that both IR and ARR are saturated.(IR to a greater degree and ARR comparitively lesser degree). We can't expect out of the earth music from them any more, unless they get a storyline that really thrills them to do so.(It's not question of talent, but interest). ARR may do it in some international project whereas IR may not get international project.(I wish he should).
We can expect good music from YSR, KR, Vidya Saagar, Harris and Ramesh Vinayagam as they still need to prove themself even in Tamil. They need to get a couple of national award before they saturate.
Let us see.

Thiru,
I agree with you. Deva too has good talent. But often his talent is overshadowed by his lifting and he got the name.
But I don't think he will stop lifting at any point of time. Looks like he didn't care criticism in this aspect.

Heard Mounam Pesiadhey in raaga.com...... real good album..... "aadathaa aataam ellaam", "Chinna chinnadhaaai", "En Anbae", "Kannil gandhamey"..... my pick is "Kannil Gandhamey".....
but something - i feel he sounds kind of same..... may be its cause of "TOOO" much albums in a short period ? or may be he is repetitive or is this his "trend" ?
also, not sure why, but i felt that i have heard this album b4 :-).....
interesting thing is, YSR seem to be leaning towards "Shankar Mahadevan" mostly of late - why ? why is he not using SPB ? hmm..... i wish he had used SPB for "En anbae" song..... SM just sucks..... look the way SPB sings in "Kannil gaandhaaam"..... wow - SPB, SPB thaaaan... hmm... i don't know why the MD's are not using him.....

I am an SPB fan too but i think for "anbe en anbae" ShankarMahdevan is the right guy and he did a helluva job.

Guys,
YSR copied Ilayaraja's tune for the film " Bala ".Ilayaraja's tune for hindi movie " MAHAADEV" 's song " RIM JIM RIM (sung by Suresh wadkar, asha bhonsle ) was lifted by YSR.
Any info....about this .......please

Ranjan, this has been established that the Theendi Theendi song is indeed an IR song which has been revamped. We are waiting to see what has appened with giving credit to IR.

When did ARR cross 100 movies - someone here refers to his first hundred movies- maybe it should be corrected to the first 20 movies.

Sabesan,
YSR used SPB in 'Kannil Gaanthamey'. Right? SM is the best high pitched singers now IMHO though I personally dislike his voice. Also commercial value drives people to HH/SM etc., (just not talent).

STS - many of SM song i always felt he is READING the song, and not SINGING.....
and yes YSR did use SPB for Kannil Ganthamey song..... thank god, atleast he uses SPB for some good number's (Mun Paniya, and now Kannil Gaanthamey), unlike his father, who used SPB of late only for junk songs.....

Sabesan,
Not to forget 'Kanavukal Pookkum' from 'April Maathathil'. YSR seems to select his bests for SPB. I am hearing from one of my Telugu friends that SPB is very busy acting in lots of Telugu TV serials. I would apply the same logic to KJY too. Why not many use his voice. It is still sweet.

The song from Bala sung by Shankar Mahadevan that is playing on the channels is very similar to the Moondrezhuthu song from PP (mus: ARR) There are also doses of the enuyire song from Uyire. The similarity is very glaring
