Who has got more fans in Tamil Nadu - ARR or Superstar Rajinikanth ?

  No. I think Rajini has more fans than ARR. This is very obvious. In fact the only person who has a higher popularity than Rajini is Illayaraja.

  AV avargaLae...i think u have confused between widely known and more number of fans. ARR might be widely know but definitely the no. of fans rajini has got is faaaaaaarr more than ARR's.

  yeah mauruthi im terribly sorry for giving wrong impression to you. i have never been to villages especially to madurai area(chellappa i know u r smiling). so i don't know the scenario about all pattis and thottis of madurai. thanks for enlightening me.
  
  i think i have answer to yours but have already gone digressing too far and i think i still have this one as my last chance to not waste my energy.
  
  So yes i agree ARR has got more fans i can even help you in saying that he has got so much of people since 1990.

  now friends dont give too much laughter details for mauruthi a.k.a FACTS, like the no. of official registered fan clubs of rajini; registered fans etc.
  
  yeah! i could also hear some of you murmuring that assuming that vijayakanth has more fans than rajini still this doesnt contradict kupps claim that rajini has more fans than ARR. if you say it even a bit loud then since it is a fact u will see(hear) CAPS-LOCKED "ho ho ha ha" kind of artificial laughters. so my request to u all to stay away from this as im going to do.

  g maurauthi is totally misleading visitors on this thread. the number of fan followings for rajini is much much more than any filmstar in tamilnadu including the great late mgr. just go to the village side . in every nook and corner, in eraode,salem,coimbatore,tirupur,madurai,tanjore everywhere you can see only rajini name boards and not even madam jayalalitha or kalignar karunandihi. marauthi is fooling us and totallyy misleading and i have toured nook and corner of tamilnadu several times and it is only rajini,rajini rajini even though he has stopped acting for now.
  
  arr comes nowhere near rajini in popularity rating in tamilnadu and this thread is the most stupid thread i have ever seen and it is started just for the sake of starting one

  I like ARR very much but I wud kid myself that there was a cine entity more popular than rajini now. (MGR who was most popular cine star in TN is no more)
  
  there used to be a bench mark in USA abt popularity. U know who it was "jesus christ" so there were just 3 people who have crossed the bench mark , elvis presly, beetles, and MJ. (though i think MTV was exxagg.)
  
  so iin TN lets keep satha-samundeswari-angalamma as a benchmark. then only 2 people have crossed it 1) MGR 2) Rajini. No point in debating this.

  arr may be a good MD but he is definitely not as popular as rajinikanth.
  
  Although it is ridiculous to compare rajini and arr. It is the euqlqnt of the cliche apples and oranges.
  
  You have to understand that in the list of priorities always in and film world is
  
  1)On screen stars
  Back ground techies:
  2) Film directors
  3a)Play Back singers
  3b) MD's
  
  It is only recently that the BG people have started getting media attention. munnadi ellam mgr /sivaji padam illai kamal/rajini padam.
  
  mathavangellam was for media analysis only rarely among public.
  
  (IRfans + ARR Fans + deva fans + misc)* .8 = Rajini fans
  
  Rajini was in contention for CM's post. ALl ARR's tunes will be mindblowing in Bose system. But imagine it being played in that conical speaker in front of a hair cut shop. A song that sounds good there is the song that will wash down well with the masses. need to understand the C center psycology!

  Can I ask u guys all a question?? Now, I'm no indian citizen, but seriously, whatz all this hype w/ Rajini?? I've watched his films and never found him versatile like Kamal. His roles always seem to be good guy wins bad guy, says a couple of lines over and over again, does some trick with his hands, and has this role of 'superstar' and I don't simply understand.
  Why all this attention for another ordinary actor. In what way is he greater than the rest? This is merely a question, not to put down anyone. I'd really appreciate an answer. Thxs.

  Digression:
  I think your comparison of two or more actors shouldn't start with the actors' performance in the movie.First,it should start with what the movie is trying to achieve.Then you should see if the characters(including hero) are playing the role consistent to film's ambitions.IMO,Rajini at no time has contradicted the movie's theme and what it's trying to achieve.
  
  Rajini has restricted himself to a formulaic plot.But he plays those roles to a T.If you watch his earlier movies,you will get a chance to see his multi-dimensional portrayal of roles that the character deserved.
  
  Rajini's assessment of the spirit/theme of the movie and grasping the nuances of the character and playing them to perfection with reckless abandon is excellent(If you analyze him minutely).
  
  If you would like to exhange more on this we can continue this discussion elsewhere as we shouldn't be discussing movies here.

  Its nothing hype about Rajini. Its the fact that more people like rajini than anybody else atleast among Tamil speaking people.
  
  There need not be any particular reason why people like one person or why they hate them. Its beyond logic.
  
  The same thing about Amitabh. No need to say he is most popular person ever in HFM, though one may not see him that great or something else. People are building temple for him in Calcutta (Kolkata ).

  Hi ppl forget that Rajini is more a hype nowadays. PPL have overestimated. Ofcourse he is popular, but not as much as fans as ARR.

  Ask the first 15 ppl u guys see next morning...

  (take care for Rajini fans might know u down)
  
  I think Rajini is popular but ARR has more fans.
  
  THE LOGIC:
  
  Combined fans of all other actors that Rajini will exceed Rajini. Most of these are ARR fans. And some of Rajinis fans are also ARR fans. Hence the reasoning.
