Shankar-Ehsan-Loy...maybe the only other MD with Bollywood roots also composing for TF....I was listening to their "Dil Chahta Hai"..except for the title track, all the other songs seem to meander around...but they are the only ones around in Bollywood who give a original techno touch to their music apart from ARR.
"Aalavandhaan" is their next big TF release...would like to hear your opinions on this trio.

Ehsaan:
>>>BGM sorry for being so un - modest but watch mission Kashmir and Dil Chahta Hai.
You need not feel un-modest. Actually, your BGM was great in MK. You people have brought some new light into hindi film music, where only dholaks and tablas are used always. As, I said earlier, you guys have added a new dimention to HFM (Hindi Film Music). Songs like "bumbro" in MK would have had only tabla and dholaks with some untimely use of western instruments had it gone into the hands some other MD in HFM.
Please, answer some questions.?
What is the roll of each one of you in your team?
What sort of music you people are comfurtable with?
What does Shankar do? I know that he can sing almost all kinds of songs.
Is Loy , the Loy Mendosa, who used to do TV serial title tracks.? I have heard one of Loy Mendosa's score for some quiz program or so by Sidhaarth Basu.
Too many questions...isn't it?

Hi Ehsaan: Good Yet another day!
My questions: do you get tunes in your mind or do you go with a basic melody and develop it. Since i listen to too much music, I get new tunes in my sleep, unfortunatley i don't know abc of composing so the tunes get lost in my dreams...
2. For such an intense film as Abhay, why did n't Kamal have Ilayaraaja for the bgm in lieu of Mahesh?
3. Your musical leanings could mean that ur music will sound more rockish and American rather than the melody and harmony' that imbibe compositions of composers whose favorites were mostly the soft pop or classical type of music. What do you think will be your styles in the future? ARR himself as i understand has liking for melody and harmony than the tupe of music in rock or jazz. So, u can see his output is very different than yours and looks more Indian than yours.

Ehsaan,
I liked your work in MK. The songs were good and the BGM heightened the scenes. Very commendable work indeed.
Yet to watch the other two:-((

Hi Common Friend by and by Shankar and I compose most of the melodies . Loy comes in later or sometimes he adds to the melody. Loy does most of the sequencing and keyboard parts in the studio but all 3 of us play keyboards , i play guitar , shankr takes over vocal supervision , i create and program synthesizer patches so basically we do all the stuff ourselves. we get ARR 's orchestrator Murthy to orcehstrate for us because the string section in Chennai is the best. Essentialy we dont ahve a very set way of working it could be chaotic !!!

hi Ehsaan,
Thanks for the answer.
What keyboards you use ?

Hi rf
well melodies come out of the blue and in the strangest of places ..... in the back of a cab , while eating. sometimes sits down to compose nothing happnes,
i have no idea s to why Illyaraja did not do the score of the film or why Kamal dindt ask him.
my musical leanings and preferences just make me a more adept musician and the advertising background gives us the ability to create different kinds of music. if you hear dil chahta hai theres trance in there , theres rock , world music , african stuff , latin and its all done with commitment not the kind of stuff you hear our bollywood guys turn out. ARR too had a background in rock and advertising and basically a muscial background where he was adept in myriad styles of music.if u hear the soundtrack that we are doing for a film called Kuch na kaho directed by Rohan Sippy ... Ramesh Sippy's son you will hear a completely different side of us very Indian. Like wise with a film called Shafaq starring Mamooty which is in Hindi and Tamil.

Mr Ehsaan...thanks for your comments and inside scoop on Aalavandaan. The music sounds fresh and very different from the run of the mill tf albums. Thanks for re-introducing the concept of scoring music to fit the situations (only IR sir seems to be doing it nowadays)
One very simple question...have you watched a finished cut of the film? If so, how has it shaped up?
- From: Krish (@ 63.25.20.73)
on: Sat Sep 1 17:03:48 EDT 2001
Hi Ehsaan,
Interesting ensemble of gadgets... Weighted very much towards Korg and Roland... Ofcourse... Do you use any acoustic instruments at all? Is Logic that good? What's Reason? And have you tried the latest CakeWalk?
Changing the topic, I do agree with your explanation for the music. It wouldn't be good composing unless it is done for the specific scene. But coming from a background of watching the usual Indian movies with a unflinching repertoire of cliched songs, you cannot blame us for expecting something from the norm... ;)
But I would definitely watch the movie and comment then, about your work. Then, we'll probably find out the true calibre of your work. Still your (I mean all the three) work is very different and nice. I'm glad to find someone who doesn't just lift songs from somewhere else, but combines their musical influences and presents them in the nicest possible way.
More than everything, I like people who recognize their contemporaries... You really impressed me...
Krish

Curios
Nandini is a wonderful singer / guitarist / composer from Pune who is just waiting to get her breaks. She is Tamilian. Infact she sang a song long ago called " I Love you you Love me too " for Vidyasagar. She is also co writing some songs with Ranjit Barot for an upcoming Tamil film.
