KK,
I have no problems answering questions relevant to this project. Unfortunately, I was not involved in any of the previous projects.
We will create the PayPal account soon.
Venki,
Please read press release section of http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ilaiyaraaja/. This also includes the letter I received signed by Raaja.
If you are not convinced, please pick up the Ananda Vikatan that carried the press release.
Tamil Maiyam is coordinating this project and not Ilaiyaraaja. His role in this project, "COMPOSER".
All press releases will come only from

I second Ramesh Venkataraman's views on some aspects:
1. IR should have released the symphony.
2. IR should not let the die-hard fans to take a ride on him. I am one among the million souls waiting for the thiruvasagam symphony to be released (if it is true). Apart from that any other websites carrying a picture of him or with him 'claiming' all sorts of 'unconditional close' relationships infact damage his reputation. He should not be treated so commonly and spread news about him, that even he is not 'aware'.
For example, I don't see sites carrying YSR, KR or ARR pictures and claim they are the only ones in the world to spread his light.
On this aspect, I second Venki's opinion too. We do not know whether IR is aware of all the abuse of his name. I don't think he is interested nor has the time to surf the net to know his popularity or whatever. He doesn't need to. This man needs a break. He has reached his summit. He is beyond the montonous film music. We have to give him a break to get some symphonies.
By the way,
the supposed thiruvasagam was to be released in oct. i see a delay. Why?

Bug,
Your questions have been answered in the website now (updated yesterday).
I happened to be fan of Ilaiyaraaja's music (I dont know him) who got in touch with Father Jegath to move it forward. Same is the case with Sridhar B and Sankar Kumar. No other vested interested in making ourselves popular or damage anybody's name.
I personally decided to take the bull by its horn rather be an onlooker and get disappointed.
As you right said, Tamil Maiyam's focus is give opportunities to people like Ilaiyaraaja (Other projects will follow) to work on projects that may never see the light otherwise.

Mr. Sridhar Seetharaman Could you please stop the line brakes after every posting. It kind of suggests me that you are trying to take other postings into old response. Because my posting went into old responses so soon I'm copying it here again....
Dear Mr. Ramesh Venkatraman, I almost stand by you regarding the Thiruvasakam In Symphony project. But the only point I differ is that ' I THINK ILAYARAJA HIMSELF MIGHT NOT BE AWARE OF SUCH A THING GOING ON...'.
Nobody sees a valid approval anywhere. Anybody in this forum knows that I'm an iron fan of Raaja.
If any organization is trying to bring out good projects, let them try to bringout the Symphony which is already there composed by Raaja.
One man everybody knows here is Raaja and only him and it is not Dr. Father Jegath. I don't know who he is.
If Raaja would approve for donations from his fans, Man... why will he talk about it only to Dr. Father Jegath.
I repeat what I had told earlier,
God! let all this about the Tiruvasakam In Symphony be true all be true and Raaja compose more and more for us all.
I will only be very happy if Raaja composes something like Tiruvasakam In Symphony.
Any body want to contact me, mail to me at venkiks@yahoo.com

Venki,
Ha! Ha! Appadi ellaam mattamaana plans ellaam illapaa!
Here is Ramesh's posting and my response.
From: Ramesh Venkatraman (@ 203.199.211.137) on: Fri Oct 17 03:22:08 EDT 2003
The Symphony # 1 tamasha was on for about 10 years from 1993 July.
Then the Raajangahm tamasha was on for a few years. Supposed to be the official cyber site of the Maestro! Much talk was on about the new works that the Maestro was working on like “Moods of Ilaiyaraaja” and about the way it is going to be distributed thru the site etc. The Raajangahm team had a meeting with the man himself in the US of A and in Chennai and then they wrote about it as if they had a meeting with the Lord himself.
Now we have the Thiruvasagam Symphony tamasha.
You have to admit that every time Ilaiyaraaja is lucky enough to get some dedicated emotional fools who tom tom the whole world about the great work the Maestro is going to present to the world and then fizzle out.
Come again, what is the project? Every one should give $5 or pay upfront for the CD/tape. With that they will create the product and sell it, isn’t it?
There should be a limit to emotional exploitation man! And Mr. Ilaiyaraaja should not think that he can fool all the people all the time.
And the joke is when one of the neo converts who is leading this effort in the USA wrote “if he wants he can approach any corporate or music companies who will be ever ready to fund this project. But he wants the common man to be involved in this project; each and every one should play their part. God uttered this on his way to Tiruvannamalai”. Good joke that is all I can say.
The fact is no record company or corporate house will touch him with a barge pole. When they invest what will they get in return? What is the market for this kind of product? And what is his track record?
What is the guarantee that the product he promises to create has a market in relation to the project cost?
It is all plain ego trips for the Maestro. And he does not have the common sense to realize that unless he releases his first work, the much talked about work with the RPO, he has no locus standi to approach any record labels. And to make his record clean, that at last he also has released a symphonic work, he trying all these kind of emotional, unethical tricks to hoodwink people to fund his project.
When he does not have a confidence to release a simple symphonic orchestral work recorded with one of the best orchestras in the world, ten years back, on what basis you can be convinced that this will be a different work acceptable to all; particularly to critics about whom he dreads so much!
Translate a Tamil classic into English and then make it into a Choir/Opera kind of work is it?
All humbug Mr. Ilaiyaraaja! This will lead you no where. Come out of the closet.
Ramesh
(a die hard IR fan but unfortunately not an emotional fool)

Ramesh,
You claim to be a die hard IR fan..but asking
"what is his track record?"..also claim to be not an fool..
Everything seems to be contradictory :)

Pulavarae (Ramesh),
Avan-Ivan engindra ega vasanam vendaam! Indha avaiyil ellorum ondrae.
All your questions are valid. I completely agree that we should not be exploiting the people who grew up with his music.
Without taking too much of your time, let me explain. I have no plans to talk about previous failures since I dont have any information. But I can talk with complete confidence about this project to root out any skepticism.
1. PBS USA is funded mostly by public (PUBLIC BROADCASTING SERVICE). Since there is no commercial motivation, PBS has been able to produce some of the best works for people. This includes Barney, Arthur etc for the kids and brilliant documentaries like "The blues" http://www.pbs.org/theblues/ etc.
2. Tamil Maiyam has the same focus to bring out good projects that may not make commercial sense, but have a deeper value for community.
3. This project has gained tremendous momentum in India and Europe (Thanks to one man, Father Jegath) and is pushing forward like a Energizer Bunny.
4. We are getting donations not only from fans of Ilaiyaraaja. At this point, we are also involving large organisations (Yaaraiyum udaradhaa illai. Mavanae! Orae amukku!).
5. Since these are donations, please don't expect any CDs/Tapes. Of course, you can always wait and pick up the CD when it is ready.
6. The 'Thiruvasakam in Symphony' project is coordinated by Tamil Maiyam a registered non-profit tax-exempt organization. It is committed to bring out high quality productions in Tamil art, culture and literature. It promotes research efforts on Tamil society and endeavors to educate and train quality media personnel.
7. The proceeds from this project will be spent on establishing: An International College of Music and Fine Arts in Chennai under the leadership of Mr. Ilaiyaraaja, a similar college in North Eastern Sri Lanka and a research foundation in Tamil Nadu.
Please do not hesitate to throw as many questions as possible.
