IR's songs after ARR's entry.

  Lets make a list of great IR songs after ARR's entry. Lets also classify the songs as 'CL' for classic, HT (HIT), SH (SuperHIT), DH (Deserved to be a Hit), DSH (deserved to be a super hit). If anybody differs about a rating for a song, he/she can post the song again (use the same index number) with a different rating.
  
  This would give us an idea of IR's position in TFM after ARR's entry.
  
  PLEASE : ONLY IR SONGS AFTER ROJA ALLOWED. (If in doubt query bfor adding to list).

  I am a great fan of IR , much greater than Rahman,
  who I consider very overrated. Still I have to
  admit that after Rahman burst into TFM , IR songs
  sounds very stale. Maybe that is due to the fact
  that Rahman bought a new style to the TFM and the
  public got hooked to it. Take the orchestra of
  Veera songs. Even though the songs were very good
  the orchestra/recording made it sound like an
  late 80's song.
  
  Anyhow for me the best of IR was till late 80's.
  I don't particularly care for IR 90's films and
  I also believe that in terms of creativity his
  90's songs is distinctly inferior to his earlier

  Your argument about IR's songs in recent 90 films is baseless. It shows that you have not listened to IR's recent songs. In fact, technically IR has showed his maturity in background music and orchestration in his recent songs and I can bet that ARR can never match Raja in technality when it comes to orchestration, rhyme and perfection in composing a song.

  Will you avoid personal remarks. I have listened
  to IR recent works and that's why I
  know what I am talking about. I recently bought
  "india 24 hours" , a non filmi album of IR.Even
  though it is much better than Rahman's recent
  works it can't be compared with IR's old works.
  Also technically the sound recording/orchestra
  of "india 24 hours" sounds like late 80's of IR.
  At least in terms of orchestra/sound recording
  IR has gone stale. No doubt it is still good
  but it is nothing new.I am also a great fan of IR
  but I will not make him a GOD. Clearly everyone
  has a limit in creativity.

  Excellent song. I think the song is based on ragam Hindolam.
  2. Ramana venkata ramana (Nandavana Theru) (CL)
  3. Vaa kathirukka neramillai (Kathirukka neramillai)
  4. Iniya gaanam ilamai vedam (Pattu pada vaa)
  The song seems to be based on Kalyani.
  I could not imagine how a ragam could be used
  in tappanguthu/classical fashion.
  5. Ven nilavil malligayil vilayadum amaidhi sugam

  I am not getting lot of chances to listen to new tamil films that often in US, and if I do, I usually gets only non IR films ( it says about the current market situation). So when I bought chandraleka and makkal atchi, I was in for a surprise. In chandraleka alla unn anaipadi and arubum thalira are gems. In makkal atchi I liked all the songs though meluru matchan was the pick. Hey who said IR is not giving good songs anymore?.

  As an Ilayaraja fan, I am happy to see so much interest in his music. I like both ARR and IR and am somwwhat partial towards IR. I really like two songs from vanaja Girija'
  Unnai Edhir parthen and Munnam seidha. Very dramatic sounding with rich vocal harmony. I do feel that the frequency of good songs from IR has gone down.

  i would rate it as one of the best Raaja songs ive ever heard, a shade better than even Ilaya nilaa perhaps... the Ist interlude departs beautifully from the 5 beat and goes into 3 beat. only raaja can perform such wonders. surely a song which eserved to become a super duper hit...

  I thaught that only i'm crazy of these two creaters., but i'm happy to see so many, crazy about them.
  
  One thing is very sure, that ARR was with IR, and definately has learnt a lot of the latest technology from him., We should never forget that IR, was the first person to bring Computer music to India, in the movie (Poonagai manan)., so do you guys think, he cannot have the recording done with the latest technology. But the sound of the latest ARR, can be heard max of 2 or 3 times/song, its mainly because more Bass, and human tendency of moving to center frequency (equally good bass support) is more that always listen to the heavy beats. IR, has thaught all this and has brought a orginal defination to listeners. So that you feel comfortable hearing to his music any time any where!!
  
  But i love both of them, for their creativity.!!
