Poor review from sify.com :(
Please don’t expect another Sethu as Bala should have taken care to make the presentation more simple, enjoyable and palatable to an ordinary audience. In Pitamagan the accent is on the grisly and grotesque.
Verdict: Dark and Disturbing

think the review means this one will be kind of gory on the whole wear as sethu only had parts of it like that.

I saw the Pithamagan review on Suntv Deepavali programs. Illayaraja was just phenomenal in scoring the background music for this film. They showed a background music editing session where IR was correcting the glide of the music until he got what he wanted.
He is a living legend of Indian Film Music.
Bala is also someone extradinary for us. The way he narrates the shots to the artists was interesting. Overall in my opinion, PM is a great movie.

raja_fan : F*CK Sify website and those who run it - vera pozhappey kidaiyaadhu - they will label a dumb movie like "pukar" as masterpiece and put down sincere efforts from regional cinema, especially those of Kamal!

HE IS SCARING PPL OR INSTALLING NEW COMPLEXES IN OUR MINDS......... HEE HEE

Vikram was his normal best

Laila and Rasita or what ever the latter's name is were very good

Vikram was just the King of Tamil Cinema. After Pithamagan, he is the God of Tamil Cinema. He is the answer to the industry for years to come. Awesome movie, a must watch treat ....

..Poor review from sify.com :( ...
rajafan, I would wait for a review from chennaionline.com's Malini Mannath or Balaji's reviews at http://www.geocities.com/bbreviews/.
These two consistently give the best reviews in my opinion.
I wouldn't trust sify.com. I remember their review for a wonderful movie like Anbe Sivam. They called it crappy and pretentious.

If everyone is raving about BGM does that mean its really a FGM?:)
IMO, IR would be mighty disappointed if he were to know that his BGM was noticed.

Foreground Music (FGM) vs Background Music (BGM)
Backgound music is expected to lift the rest. If back ground music is not noticed at all, then there is no need for its existence. But if background music does make the rest to be noticed then it is called enhancement of the rest and there is no way it is going to go unnoticed.
If the music becomes foreground without anything else to notice, then it ceases to be a background phenomenon and therefore should not exist. It can't obviously exist by itself.
This is the distinction that shylock is striving to understand, i think. Hope dorai has understood.

I saw Pithamagan in Mumbai ...even the reservation was sold in black ..On teh day of screening the black rates went to 500 even in mumbai ....
The film was good but the violence is too much ...Ir 's BGm is very very powerful in the last 300 minutes ..amazing BGM

Are the songs in the album, missing in the movie ?
Could not see any of the songs in any of
the TV..?

Raja,
Those songs cant be telecasted in TV..
first song Pirayae, Pirayae is the introduction song for vikram..so they cant show
Elangathu shows the basic relationship between vikram, surya, sangeetha and laila..so they cant show that also..
adadaa is the climax song..obviously they cant show that also..:)
arunarunam song..they cant mention that its a pithamagan song :)
kodi yethi vaipom was not there itself..
that's why they are not telecasting..
after a week only , they can show elangaathu song..

Naane than,
Thanks for the clarification.
But disappointing to know that "kodi yethi.."
song is omitted..Why should directors waste IR's talent like this..? Bala should not have asked for the song if he is going to omit..

Pithamagan is one of the very good movies in the recent time. Last twenty minutes , 'Kallayum karaya vaikkum tharunangal'.
A very good movie after 'Anbe Sivam'
Hats off for the four heroes, Surya , Vikram, Ilayaraja and Bala.
