srini...both are excellent pieces..the IR's one maintains the soul of nalinaganthi throughout (with DESH surfacing here & there ?)..ARR starts off superbly with the "Sa Ga3 Ri2" Ma1 phrase right at the first line...but quite a few "mixes" after that as he always does...both songs are sweet to the ears :-)

Is there any link where I can listen to the Nalinakaanthi BGM of KK?Not exactly BGM....the portion where Kalyani Menon teaches Aishwarya Rai music..?Its an excellent piece sung by the former and Nithyashree.

Dear Roopa

if u can just scroll back through the thread, IR (Isai Rasigai) has provided a good reply on raga or rather ragas used by ARR in the "azhage sugama" song..sahana is of course cleanly visible, but there are few others...go back a few pages in this thread.

Sindhuja, but i heard people saying that "manamvirumbudhae" is a reuse(copy) of a carnatic krithi "manavyalakim" set in naLinakanthi, please confirm which is correct.

Mazhai Varuthu is Bageshri,
kannale kadhal is kalyani,
anbe anbe nee en pillai-ahir bairav(partly),
konjum manjal-manirangu or madhyamavathy(not sure)
KUPPS,
Manam virumbuthe pallavi sounds like manavyalakim but itz not nalinakanthi for sure....most of it is gambeera nattai....

Clarification

Kupps/Sindhuja - I think everyone is correct. It actually depends on pallavi, anupallavi or charanam

It starts out like the carnatic song and then has the gambeeranaatai mixed with kedaaram.

This is one of those multi raaga songs.

Apart from all the glaring ineffciencies of Air- India, two good things make u feel great. (1) Food and (2) Music..(OK..Ok..The third goodie is purely luck based and is unmentionable in a music forum :-)

This time I got to listen to Parveen Sultana's Maalkouns and other ragas. She seems like an absolute wonder when it comes to singing. She has an approximate range of 3 octaves. Maalkouns is nothing but hindhOLam of carnatic. After having heard so many invariant hindhoLam stuffs in TFM, it was like whiff of fresh air since the sangathis were totally different.

The best (or worst) thing about Air - India was that they had the same song playing even after two months when I flew back.

Ive been including some new features for experimentation - one of which is it sounds a midi of the scale when you click on it (this requires java plugin). it also lists some kritis on the raga, which you can play too.

Hi all:
In the Malayalam movie Sargam which won the National award for the most entertaining picture in 91 or 92 ( I forget) there are a lot of songs with classical base. It was Rumba's first movie and Vineet and Nedumudi Venu costar.It has ragasudharasa sung by Yesudass.Also it has a Malayalam song Aandolanum dolanum by Yesudass & Chitra where Nedumuni Venu teaches Rumba.What raga is the song based on? are there any Tamil songs based on the same raga?

Balu:

Sargam is a beautiful album replete with pleasing classical based songs. The MD for the movie was Bombay Ravi.

raaga sudhaarasa = aandhOlika
aandhOLanam dhOLanam = kEdar gowLa

there is one old song in the raga which is not very popular. It goes like:

"kELamma kEdaara gOwLaththilE..nadakkumpOdhu neLiya vENdaam"

tuned by K.V.Mahadevan.

Amudhai poziyum nilaave - mohanam (diluted)

konjum purave - a western song which should not be declared as being in one raga. but still shankarabharaNam notes

aadu mEyudhu - ditto

sindhuja:

nenjinile = dharbaar kaanada + natabhairavi
