Getting sick of IR vs ARR debates

For the last few months every other thread has become an IR vs ARR thread. Ravi, can you make a permanent thread with a topic heading like "IR is god; Everybody else except ARR is non-god; ARR is the devil". At least, it would reduce the clutter in the TFMDF!

Ironically, I am adding more clutter...

  My 2-cents worth based on my observations of at least two "waves" or "generations" of DFers......
  
  ARR-bashing and IR-superiority threads are facts of life and are here to stay.
  
  All the bashers, devotees, fans have a right to express their passions and opinions re IR and ARR in a discussion forum such as this, as long as they don't resort to individual attacks of DFers.
  
  Similarly, other DFers have the right to ignore these hate/vent threads since they are so predictable and redundant; I personally exercise this individual right always to conserve my energy and time.
  
  However, from a thread management perspective we may wish to have two permanent threads--one for "Rahman Bashing" only and one for "iLayaraja versus Other Musical Nonentities" comparisons. A "Best of Rahman" thread already exists in the archives, just in case an ARR fan strays in and has a sudden desire to celebrate ARR.
  
  To those uninterested in this IR-ARR stuff: let's be more proactive, and create or revive (as Udhaya has done) some interesting, substantive topics and move on with life!

  It's really disheartening to hear such a comment from you about ARR. There are many good songs of ARR such as "Narumukaiye" from Iruvar, "Nila Kaikirathu" from Indra, for which he didn't use Computer at all. He is too good a person to be penalised for using technology in India

  I will pay money to make the IR vs. ARR threads permanent which means I can bypass those threads and actually discuss relevant stuff with people whose tempers are decaffeinated and whose adulation of MDs is murungaikai-free.
  Fear not brother venky, Srikanth is being highly ironic as is Sathya.
  Adding 4 for IR and 4 for ARR (as Srikanth has suggested) in the permanent threads will actually save the TFM Admin some time, maybe the TFM group will actually have time for their work, family, friends, and other hobbies if these permanent threads are created. And by god, Ravi, you better outrule any such threads in the regular discussions. Crazy as it sounds, I'm certainly not being ironic.

  The other day, I saw a thread totally unrelated to an IR vs ARR discussion. Some poor soul had come in and posted something praising ARR. To the best of my knowledge, no IR fan criticized it, probably because it praised ARR as a separate entity rather than in comparion with IR. But what was funny was that Srikanth, Udhaya and a couple of other ARR fans had severely cautioned that guy, saying that ARR fans would be bashed by IR fans in this forum and that he is a 'minority' in DF, etc.,. Again, I have come across several postings from ARR fans calling other ARR fans to come in support of ARR. Idhu yenna thaerudala ? "Anbaandha Vaakala perumkodimakkale...nadayperavirkinra IR, ARR sandayil ungal ponnana vaakugalai, kannaana chinnamaana ARR chinnanthukke vaakallithu, annarai peruvaariyaana vaaku vithyaasaththil jaykavekkummaaru vendi, virumbi kaetu kolgirom." Asingam ! From my personal experience, IR fans don't retaliate unless provoked by ARR fans. Actually, I feel sorry for ARR because he has to depend on people like 'Junior' and 'Reasoning' (though I think they are one and the same) to defend him.
  Srikanth and Udhaya, please don't feel bad. I have never made personal attacks on any ARR supporter. But surely you guys can do a better job of defending ARR. I find it intellectually simulating, discussing with someone like Srikanth. But I don't think I am in any way unreasonable when I ask you to convince me (I am not even using the word proof now) that ARR is better than IR. And yes, I too would be interested in a permanent thread where we can peacefully discuss the distinction between ARR and IR.

  Since IR supporters outnumber ARR fans in this forum, I think what Udhaya and Srikanth suggested was quite right. Can you imagine one poor soul warding off all attacks, plus trying to concentrate on work (namba maadhiri):--) Consider the sections that describe the new IR albums. Most of the reviews are nothing but raves. Now I do not know whether they seriously are good or bad, but I do tend to respect a counter-review like Geetha's (I forget in which thread, though) that said that the much-ballyhooed Poonthottam wsn't all that great.
  
  All these threads are begun by people with pre-existing choices and opinions, and then the supporters/defenders are expected to "convince" (see, I too am trying not to use the same word) him/her/it otherwise. There is one group that is open-minded about music and one that is not so. Some think that an art form like music can be evaluated without personal bias. What can we do about it? It all degenerates into a shouting match where the person with most enthusiasm for typing and most free time on the job ends up making points.
  
  There was a time I used to enjoy these arguments, but now it's time (I think) to categorize them into a new thread altogether.

  I have opened a new thread where fans from opposing camps can speak out on the things that they like about their rivals' idols. I am rather hoping that this will help in toning down the severity of comments a little bit between IR and ARR fans.
