Where is SPB ?

Why are ARR and Raaja not using SPB these days. Bharadwaj and Vidyasagar seem to be the intelligent MDs around by using SPB for their best and choicest songs while Raaja and ARR seem to prefer the younger lot who are good but pale next to SPB.

  Both ARR and IR have used SPB very well.. they are just trying out new singers..
  If SPB retires in 2 or 3 years ( worst case .. i hope he'll be around for many more years), someone has to replace him right ??
  
  By the way, dont u think, "Venn paniya" in Nandha will get SPB another national award .. i think he deserves another one for this

  spb is there everywhere around tamilnadu. the no.of spb concerts in tamilnadu mostly solo concerts are there everymonth and this shows how popular he is even though he is not singing many songs. the sponsors just like us knows the pulse of the public and that is why spb shows are increasing. the question of retirement for spb does not arise and he will sing as long as his health and voice permits. Also spb's voice can never be replaced and his is the only divine voice in and around south indian film industry and you can never feel sick of his voice. Or else, he could not have survived for 37 years till date.definetely munpaniya will render him national award. spb has not got national award for illayaraja songs, but will definitely get one for his son's songs.

  vinod time will show a replacement for spb, not the music directors. instead of wasting thier music talent, it is high time they start using spb as before to enusure longeivity of the songs and to enrich the quality of the songs

  SPb comes daily in "Nathi enge going" in Natchthira vetri. It is another matter that he doesn't even sing the title track.

  I think you meant "Mun Paniya" from Nandhaa by SPB, yes he sure deserves a National award, if Shanker Mahadevan gets an award for "Enna solla pogirai" & unni Krishnan gets one for "Ennavale adi ennavale", then surely SPB deserves many national awards, SPB missed national awards for his super rendertion of "Kadhal oviyam songs", to deepan chakaravarti, rather sad!!!

  don't mistake me for my reaction.
  
  You all want SPB to sing till the world exist. Comon there are lot of talented artists coming up and they need to be encouraged. SPB has sung all types of songs and the number crosses several thousands. But still...? Another factor that he has gone for acting and even in TV serials he acts.. compering a lot of prog.. Apart frm these, he is getting aged.. no one can stop and the impact will be there in his voice and melody.
  
  The same thing happened in Susheela and Janaki. Are they not taking it as it is...PS, SJ, SPB are legends and they have done a lot for film music and nothing wrong that they enjoy encouraging juniors. Nothing wrong if the MDs use the upcoming artists.
  
  Pl let us also give boost to the new artists instead of just ventilating these kind of feelings. Lastly this is not to hurt anyone but express my thoughts too..!

  Even if SPB stops singing today.. he still will be the best singer ever .. ( atleast according to me .. ) I dont want to see SPB singing till the end .. has happened with Latha Mangeshkar in hindi who still ssings.. Some of her songs are really bad now .. her voice isnt the same ( an exception is asha bhonsle )
  
  
  Anyway, thats for SPB to decide...right now .. his voice is just as good as it was 20 years ago...

  SPB did get a national award for IR's songs, infact two. One in 1983 for Saagara Sangamam and another in 1988 for Rudraveena both in Telugu.

  mr vinod, bob simson captained australia at the age of 41. bocott played till he was 45. therefore it is the quality that matters and not quantity ( spb has quantity also in his side is different aspect) At present there is no one who can match spb or come even near to him. when that is the case , why not give him good songs. Just because spb has sung more than 36000 songs does not mean that spb should not sing now. he still has the stamp of class and as long as he has that definitely he should sing atleast 20% of all songs.

  everyone knows that SPB has the stuff even now. he can go to any pitch even now. agree. But this does not mean that youngsters should not be encouraged.
  
  I am feeling so bad at your statement "At present there is no one who can match spb or come even near to him. when that is the case , why not give him good songs". Why we should go so down to ask for good songs. He is legend and if MDs think that it should be sung by only SPB, they will automatically go to him.
  
  Pl don't disregard SPB by asking "good songs for him".

  I agree with you, new singers must be given a chance, but out of the new youngsters, Harrish & Karthik are good the rest are utter terrible, some with feminine girly voice, some sings through their nose, some with terrible Tamil pronunciation, some go off the key @ high octaves, really really terrible new singers, most of them have NO talents, some get into singing through friends, some from political influences, there should be an independent judge who must select singers, if there was one, we would not have 50% of the singers nowadays.
  
  I also agree SPB is getting old, in fact every one is getting old, :)), hariharan is reaching his fifties soon, so why is he still singing, I know his songs are terrible, no life, etc, but he is still singing few songs nowadays, SPB is a class of it's own, he can not be reached by anyone in Industry, even his son Charan, I doubt it, but he is not given many chances in Tamil like he is given in Telegu, SPB does NOT only sing like other singers, but he is also an
  
  1) Dubbing artists (he dubbed his voice for most of kamal's films & songs, in Telegu, like Thenali, Alavandhan, Avai Shanmugi, etc.)
  
  2) He also composes music
  
  3) He is also an actor, director & producer.
  
  No other singer in Industry (past/Present)
  Have the following attributes of SPB, which makes him the Ultimate!
  
  1) Bassy Voice
  2) Gammaks & nava Rasams
  3) Expressions & emotions of each and every word in the song
  4) His own unique style (like his charming laughter, between the lyrics)
  5) Ability to reach high octaves, without taking a false voice, without screaming, without sounding nasal.
  
  All of the above are/were present in NONE of the artists, although M.rafi was as versatile as SPB, he never had the baritone voice of SPB, nor SPB's charming laughter. It was SPB, who gave life to most of IR songs, has IR forgotten it? or is his EGO stopping him from using SPB again?

  Dubbing, acting, composong have nothing to do with singing. These are extraneous details.
  
  No other singer in Industry (past/Present)

  Expression in singing is a highly subjective issue. It cannot be stated as fact, as it depends from person to person. There is no objective way to prove that SPB is more emotive than say KJY or Rafi.
  
  4) His own unique style (like his charming laughter, between the lyrics)
  
  Every singer has his/her unique style...laughter is one thing, but there are several other nuances, subtleties present in so many singers.
  
  5) Ability to reach high octaves, without taking a false voice, without screaming, without sounding nasal.
  
  A veteran poster by the name of RajaG had once explained that this thing of high and low pitch must be made only in conjunction with song notation. In other words, you have to pinpoint the note reached effortlessly or poorly by the singer concerned. There have been several examples of high pitched singing by several artists. SPB wasnt the only one.
  
  If Rafi didnt have the baritone of SPB, he had his own unique timbre, which SPB didnt have. That is why rafi is unique, SPB is unique.........Also, it is wrong to say that SPB alone gave life to IR songs. IR himself is/was a genius and SPB was deserving as well as lucky to get to sing so many lovely songs with IR. IR knows whom to use for which song. Just because he doesnt use SPB for a certain song, doesnt mean IR is ego-centric.

  70% of IR's so called HIT's were SPB + IR combo, nevertheless, I agree with U that IR is also a Genius, but he does have an EGO issue.
