6 Songs : Mind Blowing!!
Source :HinduTimes

Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

380 is the highest score in test cricket.
375 was his best. Going from 374 with a single shot into the records is some going!!

*the (hopefully) last digression in this thread*
the historic moment...
Batty to Lara, FOUR, outside leg, sweeps, and races away to fine leg, Lara is leaping, fisting the air, means so much to him. Runs down the pitch, punching the air, jumps into the arms of
Jacobs, and hugs. Chaos here, with photographers on the pitch, Memebr of the Government out there shaking hands, surprisingly no fireworks or champagne 400 runs next England players also up to Lara shaking hands with him, great occasion.
*end digression!*

Aayitha Ezhuthu - This is how it is spelled! A white background with 3 smart men dressed in full black. That is the cover of Aayitha Ezhuthu, which has 6 songs almost all of which have unbelievably short lyrics - as short as Mani's dialogues!
Good Bye Nannbha
Sung well by Shankar Mahadevan, Sunitha Sarathy, Lucku Ali and Karthik. Nice song that almost takes 2 minutes for the people to actually start singing! First 2 minutes of the song have just the "Good Bye Nanbha" chant and LOTSA music. This, coupled with some rapid changes in the tempo of the song give it a fresh feel to the song which would have otherwise been just another song!
JanaGanaMana
Pretty easily most people's pick of the album. Rahman changed the way people say Vande Mataram and Mangalyam Thanthunanena, so I guess he would be even more under the fire for this one! ;-) Awesome song, sung by Rahman and Karthik. The lyrics suggest that it is a pretty brisk song, which the singing doesn't! "Lazy" but fashionable singing.
Sanda Kozhi
Sounds VERY out of place. Though I kinda like the song, this is not Rahman's style. Something that is different from the usual stuff and is clearly visible, but I don't know what! :-) Perhaps, the usage of instruments or the singing. It has gotta be one of these for sure! :P Sung by Madhusri and ARR. Madhusri doesn't impress with her pronounciation. Need to listen more closely to conclude if that's right!
Dol Dol
ARR and experiments, inseperable! Just beats, beats and beats. The main beats remind me of Shakalaka Baby. Mild rap here and there by Blaaze. The entire song is just a loop of sorts! The same things repeat over and over again with subtle variations that are mostly left unnoticed! Dol Dol Maare(??) is chanted with different beats in the background at different parts. Ends of with Bhangra kinda beats which is my pick in this song.
Nenjamellam
I did not expect to like this song coz it sounded like just another BoomBoom. Starts of wonderfully with some nice music. The tune, the light beats, everything is so nice in this song but for Adnan Saami! He just eats away the words. Mookula clip poattu padaraara enna theriyala! I can't help laughing at his voice which according to my uncle sounds like "trade fair-la pichai edukkaravan"! Gosh, he should just stay with Hindi and stop making people hate such nice songs!
Yaakkai Thiri
Amazing! A must hear with headphones! Nothing much to comment on this song, but a major plus poin in this one would be Rahman's singin. It has added soooo much soul into the song for this one to be dismissed as just another discotheque number. And yeah, the lyrics...hardly 50 words in the entire song! :-)
On the whole, a very nice album. More on the lines of BOYS and definitely not on the lines of KKS. So, that would help people make a choice if they need to buy it or not! (I'm talking abt non ARR fans ofcourse! :-)) At the same time, I do not know where to place it in the ARR-Mani list. Not that I knew for the previous albums, but I din bother then coz I wrote no review! :-) Dil Se had an edge over the rest, and that still holds good.
The songs kindle the interest in the film. I find it very difficult to predict what Mani is dealing with. Perhaps three dofferent people, with three different approaches to a common problem or something like that. I expect this one to be a hit from Mani. The lyrics and the stills suggest some sort of a revolution (Madhavan's part?) in the film. I just hope the film is revolutionary!

Well, coming to what I began w/ (I hope I havent forgotten! Nitpicks always do this to me!)..
Lemme take you through the songs in a way I perceived them.
1. Hey Goodbye Nanba
It certainly isn't a hidden message from Vairamuthu to Rahman as u make it out to be! This was one song that had me completely confused in the first listening.. and completely awestruck in my second.
When I first heard the samples on tamilurban, I really liked the rhythmic tune by Shankar M. Then I saw the Yuva trailer where Lucky Ali was singing Anjaana Anjaani. When I bought the cassette, Sunitha started singing "Hey Goodbye Nanba". I was wondering how many songs were actually in the album! ARR, to my pleasant surprise, had fused the 3 right into one song. And he has actually done that w/o giving us that glaring impression of a sudden change of gears.
Sunitha does try to be sexy here, and succeeds.. When she's singing.. err.. chanting the "Sparisamam Thulli Visham" bit, there's an electronic instrument ringing around my head! It started in one ear and went on to the other.. And then Shankar takes over! It starts out w/ a very energetic "Nee Yaaro".. If ur wondering why the credits say Karthik, u'll be able to pick him in the "Naan Yaaro" bit. :) The "Kan Thodri" bit has been brilliantly tweaked by Rahman to give that Electronic feel. If he'd jus left it as such, I feel it would have been a bit flat. ok ok.. I'm actually taking u through every 5 seconds of the song here! I'll get on w/ it! :)
(Since Lucky Ali was the lead singer in the Yuva version, ARR must have added a few of his bits in that song into this.)
The humming by Sunitha and Lucky Ali carry us on to the next stanza where the tune completely changes.. That was very subtle.. yet Explosive. "Kalla Vizhagalil" has the Shankar M that we know. From that point on, the energy just doesnt dissipitate.. The piano bit had me really furious in the beginning, but now, I guess I know the reason for it. It gives me this impression that Rahman's tried to bring a "peaceful" feel into the song all of a sudden to shake the listener's up a bit, and jus when they are given the rude shock from their foot tapping, Shankar and co take u back there! :)
This is, IMHO, ARR and Mani's answer to "Uyirin Uyire". And the Rahmania in me wants to believe ARR's notched up one. Ferrari's post proves just that!
Next comes the song that rocked my world!
2. JanaGanaMana
ARR's added that sound in the beginning to give me a warning to watch out for the incoming song! :) Rahman's "Oh Yuva" is brilliantly rendered. Typical Rahman I think, and then.. "Jana Gana Mana". This isnt the Rahman I know! What happened to his voice?! He sounds so.. so.. cool! A DFer here came up w/ the perfect word.. Nonchalant!
If anybody can come up w/ a hard-driving song w/ laidback singing, it's this man! Any other MD would have been blatantly aggressive. The whistles give us fleeting visions of the Wild West! Karthik's used only for the parts in lower tones and in the aggressive bits like "Chut Put Sel". The song builds up in perfect pace w/ glass breaking all over the place. The next two stanzas help move Rahman from the "come in-scream-modulate-leave" singer to a very decent level. But then "Vellai Pookal" had already showcased his singing capabilities.
The pick of the album... ARR's done it again.
