Friends:
Included in this week's planned upload is a recent rare number from Raaja which even won laurels from a bitter critic of Raaja (DSR of THE HINDU). The song is, "Kadhal Nilave...Kanmaiye Karpagame", very beautifully rendered by Malaysia Vasudevan.
Please observe this song for the Saxaphone and flute interludes with a terrific bass throughout the song. This song is again encoded as a top quality file and the quality is going to surprise all of you. Please comment on this song, once it is uploaded.
Following close to heels the instantaneous success of the STEREO version of Engengo Sellum, I have encoded a great song from Ilamai Kaalangal (Pada Vanthadhor Raagam). This song really gave me a tough time as it had a lot of noise like EVK. However, I removed all the noise and have encoded it as a stereo mode song. Please listen to this one as well and share your comments at this forum.
The uploads should take place around early morning on (Friday). I am gone out of town during the weekend. So please continue to share your comments and thoughts at this thread. I might not be able to respond to queries posted here, immediately. But will definitely reply to them, once I am back.
Please continue to show the same enthu as before.

Hi Rex,
Yes I am using Goldwave. In that there are two options Noise gate and Noise Reduction. For using Noise Gate, we have to mention four parameters, attack time, release time, threshold and anticipation time. I tried using this with default value that comes with Goldwave and with other combinations too, but the quality was poor. So, I used the other. In Noise Reduction too, there are many combinations. First in the category Preset Shapes, we can specify hiss removal or reduce hum or none. Then for Reduction Envelope option there are three categories, use shape, use current spectrum or use average. Among this option trying "average", gives the worst performance. But, there is not much of help for how best the noise can be reduced in the Goldwave software package. Additionally, I am using 16bit on-board SB. I will try with separate SB Creative Live. Or the famous and high quality Diamond's DX300 card. I used for Noise Reduction, with none for Preset shapes and use shape for Reduction envelope. Trying out different combinations, I find this one was giving much better quality.
Please let me know what options work best for you. Any further info. will be very helpful for improving the quality of the songs.
It really needs so much effort in converting into a good quality audio. I appreciate your work on this, Rex. My hip hip hurray's to you.
Thanks Rex. And thank you very much.

Rex: Seeing the discussions with VVel, I get an idea of the volume of the effort you must be making. It is only addingmy respect for your comendable efforts.
That apart, I have a couple of more requests, apart from the 12 odd songs still pending from my earlier requests:
1.Kaadhal oviyam kandaen...sung by sujatha..
2.Vaazhve maayama...gayatri ,I think

Vels:
You can use Noise Gate (but not with the defaults). Try using these parameters (this is just a guideline.....each and every song has its own characteristics that you should not stick to a set of values......in a worst case try doing trial and error approach)
ATTACK TIME: 200 ms is fine in most cases.
RELEASE TIME: 50 ms works fine for me in many cases
THRESHOLD: 50 (I use 50...care should be taken here or else the entire song gets messed up)
ANTICIPATION: 50 ms. Usually it is recommended that ANTICIPATION is set as same as RELEASE TIME.
Now to my memory, some of the songs that really took days for me to encode are : Ilampani thulir vidum neram, all songs of EVK, Malare Malare Ullasam, All songs from Mundanai Mudichu, Pada Vandhadhor Raagam, etc. These songs are matchless in their performance, because I experienced other ways of noise removal and I found the best bet based on trial and error approach was to use NOISE REDUCTION in lieu of NOISE GATE (I am neither an Electrical Engineer or an expert in Digital Signal Processing---so only trial and error approach helped me)
In NOISE GATE again do not use the defaults.
Try this one.....that is the secret behind my high quality files.
Allow noise intentionally to occur in the track. Monitor it very closely. Now after the track had been recorded, use NOISE REDUCTION option. In that use a FAST FOURIER TRANSFORM VALUE from 10 to 12 (11 is fine for me in most cases). Let
OVERLAP be 75%
SCALE be 100%
The choice for REDUCTION ENVELOPE should be
USE CURRENT SPECTRUM
Now point the pointer to the most noisy area. The noise removal process starts working right from here.
For working on NOISE REDUCTION you need a lot of patience. This takes a hell amount of time even in my PC (400 MHz) when compared to the easy NOISE GATE option.
Also, please take care to give the correct `T' values....if you give the `T' value to be something that belongs to the original track, again the track is lost.
Good luck with noise removal(???). Try out different options....even if you have to lose tracks.....Initially I had lost a lot of tracks and songs and had to re-record them again and again (EVK for example).
If you have further questions, feel free to post it here.

Can you put up one .ra file with the noise and the same one with the noise removed ? I think that would give us a good idea of the difference that your efforts make !

What a coincidence....That is exactly what I was planning to do.
I will upload 2 songs to show the efforts that have gone into the noise removal process. One song is going to be ILAMPANI THULI VIDUM NERAM and one song from EVK.
Those songs should help you to see the difference.

Srinath, Vels and all:
As you had suggested, I am putting up 2 links here now (later to my page). See the difference for yourself. Click on the CRUDE VERSION and REFINED VERSION of the song.
While listening to both the versions, please take some time to analyze the quality of voice and bass of the song too. That would show that noise removal is not just removing "krrkk krrk" noise alone, but involves certain procedures which would refine the voice in the song too.
1. CRUDE VERSION -- http://www.members.tripod.com/~ilayaraaja/noise1.ram
2. REFINED VERSION -- http://www.members.tripod.com/~ilayaraaja/ilampani.ram
The very fact that the songs in my site are of good quality is because I spend a lot of time in removing the noise. But the same songs sound differently in other sites, because people would have directly encoded the songs without paying attention to the dynamics and noise removal aspects of encoding for their songs.
Songs like that can be encoded within 5 minutes. Songs that are removed for noise in my site took me on an average of at least 1 to 2 FULL hours for encoding. This time does not include the time that I would have lost when the tracks were messed up. For Ilampani....the song that you are listening to at my site was successful at my fourth attempt. All previous attempts to remove noise resulted in loss of tracks. That is the reason, I am not able to keep pace with certain requests appearing here.
I would like to see your comments here.
I just pulled out this file real quick after I saw your posting today. I will try to pull other files which really made me work like hell to remove the noise.

For the Unknown FAN of TFM:
Whoever asked me persistently for UNNAI ETHIRPAARTHEN from RETTAI ROJA ( a very good melody from SPB and Swarnalatha).....cheer up...
Your request is included in this upload. I would like to know who had asked for this song. This file will be of very high quality.

MSK:
The songs from Kadhal Oyvadhillai are:
(1) indha dhaavani kuyil isai padudhu kanna, unnai paarkayil konjam srudhi yaerudhu manna(!) (the typical tamil dubbed song's lyrics, what more can you expect?) - sung by SJ and SPB. The song is cute, though. I do not currently possess to pass it on to Rex.
(2) raaja mohini, suga raaga devi nee - SPB and SJ - a melodious song.
The movie starred Karthik and Ramya Krishnan, I guess, originally made in Telugu - an utter flop movie - no wonder songs went unnoticed.
