Balram, Vidhu Prathapan, Madhu Balakrishnan - Under-rated but best now!

hello guys

I think singers Balram, Vidhu prathapan and madhu balakrishnan are the best of the bunch and everyone of them fals along the line of yesudas.

I dontthink they have goten the respect they deserve becos we are all busy over-rating tippu, devan, harish, karthik

harish and karthik are OK. but Tippu and devan in my opinion are not that good. They are miles behind classically trained and disciplined voices pf Balram, MB and Vidhu

  I agree with you to an extent.
  
  You also have to see that they have not got their best of chances in singing.
  
  I really like Vidhu. He won the best singer kerala state award couple of years ago. His opening in Kattula song from solla marantha kathai was awesome.

  hey karan do u think that tippu is a crap .ur wrong then he is the only guy with various styles in his singing .karthik & hr are the 2 with no difference in there singing from the beginning it self.devan is a worst singer that i really accept.tippu is very good i have seen him singing in shows he is really great.dont talk about a person without knowing him karan plzzzzzzzzz

  Why pose as two different persons?
  
  Let us have a helthy discussion. We are not going to gang up. If you like tippu all you want to say is 'I like him' I wont question you.
  
  What we are saying is that the nature of songs have not provided prathapan, madhu and Balram with good songs. tippu and karthik are lucky because they sing in commercial "hit" songs that masses get attracted too. I loved harish in Nirpadhuve very much.

  our people generally like an "imperfect" boyish voice. Thats why they go for guys like tippu, devan and harish.
  
  Karthik is flat and bland and I dont know how people say he is "different". Balram and Vithu have stunning sleazy voice. What I call "Gambheeram!!"
  
  Manly voice. While someother "popular" singers who sing commercial "coke pepsi" hit songs sound so "un-manly" and "immature" to me.
  
  I dont know about Madhu. He sang well in Pillai Thamarai song from Album.

  Unique-boyish-immature-untrained-tainted voices like that of tippu, devan, harish, karthik are a big hit now becos the general acceptability level of TFM lovers when it comes to singing is so poorly low.
  
  How many people nowadays you think know what a "Ghamakam" in singing means compared to the days of SPB KJY? Those singers were great because they had a classically trained and "DISCIPLINED" voice. Unlike the "Ye Machi... " style college boyish voice (Yeah.. the one you call original)
  
  Ask thse singers to go to Malayalam and sing they will fail miserably. Malayalam cinema expects the loftiest standards when it comes to singing.

  Virumaandi, I agree. Along with "Unique-boyish-immature-untrained-tainted" voices add the Thanglish accent too to make it complete :-)
  
  As for gamakams you should be wondering how many MDs of today know what it means :-) I am sure that atleast some of the singers in that list would deliver if they were given serious classical songs to sing, but the movies/music of today doesnt permit that.
  
  Madhu Balakrishnan was also good in "Edhilum ingu iruppaan" from Bharathy.
  
  Amongst the under-rated or overlooked or underused, there seems to be another singer called Anantharaman who has sung for VS in once of the recent films and who has also supposedly sung in the MSV ghazal album released sometime back(that album had SPB and Srinivas as the main singers). He doesnt get a chance to sing probably because his diction is good :-)

  The song is "Oththa solludhaan". Another one of those songs from VS that reminds you of a mid-80s IR :-)Was surprised to listen to a song like this these days.

  I agree with with Vijay and Virumaandi.
  
  These days all you need is glamour and not discipline. The young singers like Karthik, Tippu, Devan and harish are really good singers. However I feel they are over-rated because they sing the hit glamour song to the masses (coke pepsi songs as has been put by virumaandi hehe).
  
  But I feel that they are nowhere near the "discipline", classical purity, "Gambheeram", steadfastness exhibited by Balram, Madhu, and Vithu. Those people have the capability of sending you into meditation with a song that sounds like "Mandhiram Indhu" from Avarampoo by IR.
  
  But the big question is - Are our current bunch of MDs willing to produce a song like "Mandhiram Idhu" which is an ingredient to absolite calmness and piece of our mind?
  
  ANSWER - NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  
  Therefore, it is hard for Balram, Vithu and Madhu to shine in the "coke pepsi" and "ye machi" regime of TFM :)

  i think madhu is the best.
  he has a immense tallent and have got a good range in his singing.By hearing his songs, one can understand that he has got a good knowledge and base in classical music too.
  have u heard the song "Amme Amme" from the film valkannadi(malayalam)for which he has won the best playback singer award(kerala film award -2002). can any of the new commers sing this song with such variations. i can bet,'nobody can'.plz do hear that song and think about it.if u want to hear his melody do hear 'kanaa kandenadi' from the film "parthiban kanavukal.

  i agree with sajan . i have heard several songs of madhu. i wonder why he is not getting good chances. we should try to encourage him.
  he can sing fast numbers too. have u heard the song from Ilayaraja's ' Aandaan adimai".

  Madhu is really good. i loved him in Bharathy.
  
  What about Vidhu prathapan. I absolutely was taken away by his "Hay hay hayeee..." start in kattula Thalayattura song in Solla marantha kathai. Typical 80s voice!

  Hi, I am Vidhu's brother-in-law, but I dont want to sing praises, just want to lend some insight into this wonderful guy.
  
  I am just surprised that one song in Tamil generated this much interest (also another part in a song in Dhool). Fact is, he is very talented - he won the Asianet Voice of the year award beating 35 year old professionals and MA music guys when he was only 17 himself.
  
  He was pushed aside by the big Y and MGS in malayalam for many songs that were about to be sung by him. With the 40 odd songs he has sung in 40 odd Malayalam movies he did a great job.
  
  Sukhamanee Nilavu was his latest hit in a movie called Nammal - but for a collection you should see Coolgoose.com where any malayalam song I can think of is stored for download.
  
  Not to hijack the discussion here, in my humble opinion, Vidhu and Madhu have the best qualities for Malayalam but Harish and Tippu are refreshing for Tamil right now. Lets see how they develop and sustain.

  Vidhu is really one of the best! I can still hear his great rendering of Hey hay haaayy from Kattulla thalayattura from slla marantha kathai in my ears. It was shocking to me that Ilayaraja had the guts to do something like he did in the 80s.
  
  According to me Shreya, Vidhu and Madhu are the most exciting voices this year
