I am organizing IR's album year wise.
On the Duets Category here are the songs I have for 1984.
An unbelivable 38 excellent Duets songs.
No body has ever given songs of this calibre in a single year in IFM leave alone TFM.
Please let me know if I have missed any of the good songs.

  The point is this.
  Music does not have language.The way I look at it is IR has given this many quality songs in a single year.To my knowledge no body has done that in any other language.Therefore I would agree with Veera .

  Wonderful topis. Please give us more songs during IR's peak of the 80s. DOes anyone have such a recommendation list for the late 80s? Like around Mouna Ragam times?

  There are so many solo songs for the mastero and I have not got into it.Right now I am only focussing on duets.If you need any info let me know.

  ganspb, in "December Pookkal", there is another nice song - 'Inba vennilaa indru vandhadhu...'. I really love the tune - very pleasing to the ears. But I guess this was like one of the many good songs which did not become a hit. I am still trying to get hold of this song.
  
  Also, I dont know if you guys can help. There is this movie where Mohan and Banupriya work in a film unit. The song goes like "Yaarodu yaaro... nee enna ooro? ilayavalae..." - again a nice melody.
  
  Also please let me know the film names where these songs feature : "Uchi malai mehangal thooralgal poda..." (the song has Kanaga in it) and "Kotti kidakkudhu selvangal bhoomiyile..." (I heard from one of my friends that this is a rare ragam - seldom used in film songs. This is a Rupini-Mohan starrer).

  To Piratheepan and all who think IR was famous only in Tamil nadu,
  
  He was famous in TN, Andhra, Kerala and Karnataka and he was well respected by North Indian people and music critics as well though he didn't do a lot of projects there..
  
  For someone who knows what music really means knows who this great genius is. A genius is always a genius! Age and time do not hide that. And it does not depend on the popularity. It all depends on the stuff he is capable of doing. Also popularity alone does not make someone genius... may be rich but certainly not a genius. There are some valid reasons why Ilayaraja did not get his popularity outside south india. We have had so many threads discussing under that topic. First of all he did not go for that and secondly in 80's and 90's it was not in one man's hand. There was no media or marketting support. Today, anybody can become popular.. even stupid MDs like deena becomes popular with manmada rasa..
  
  Popularity doesn't stay for long but the work of a genius stays for ever.
