Hi
I have tried arranging a few songs in MIDI, so if you have a sound card you can play using
Media Player.
I currently have the following: please
e-mail me if you want these midi files. Someday
I am planning to create a Tamil MIDI page.
1. Ennuyire, Vaa Ennaruhe :
from Poonthotta KavalKaran
2. Telephone Manipol - (Indian)
Just the intro
3. Pachcharisi Mavidichi
(guess what? It is the folk intro for
the song ' Madura Marikozhundhu vasam')
4. A bit of 'Ilamai Idho Idho'
MIDI has further advantages that you can read the song notes in a sequencer software, hear one
track at a time, shift the key, tempo etc.
You can singalong with the sound card!
World over, quite a lot of songs have been
transcribed into MIDI, but not many (any?) Tamil
songs.
If you have a MIDI keyboard and create MIDI, please get in touch with me!
Thanks
RaviJay

Is that you Ravi? : )
Good to see you here. Palani is also around.
Why don't you keep the files accessible on the web somewhere for people to download. If you don't have webspace, ftp them into
ftp://newtfmpage.com/incoming
and drop me a mail. Thanks.

Hi there!
Am also a fan for tamil midi. I do create some.
I also created lots of Style (Rythm pattern) files for Yamaha Keyboard's which can readily be used in a keyboard having a floopy drive (PSR 630,730,8000 etc).
I you like to have'em , mail me ! ram.s@mailcity.com

For anyone who wants to get started with PC MIDI:
You need to have a sound card that has a feature called MPU-401. Creative Labs Sound Blaster cards have this as standard.
On these cards, some pins in the Game Port connector are used for MIDI. This means you need a special cable whose one end connects to the game port and the other end connects to the MIDI device such as a MIDI keyboard.
Check with a Creative Labs dealer to buy this optional cable. There is also another company called Aztech from Singapore that makes sound cards and midi cables.
Creative Labs website:
http://www.creaf.com
Aztech Singapore website:
http://www.aztech.com.sg
If you have a sound card with MPU-401 and want to make your own cable, check the following site for 'how to' information (you will need help from someone with electronics background):
http://www.midiweb.com/hww/midi.htm#l2
Note that I have not verified that a cable, made using the instructions on the above page, works.
For MIDI software, my choice is CakeWalk Pro which sells at about US$250, but there is a pretty good MIDI sequencer called Digital Studio that costs about US$30.
You can download a demo from: http://www.kagi.com/amcsoftware/default.html

Hi guys,
This is VK (new comer to this thread; a relative new-comer to TFM page). I was going thru some articles here about MIDI.
Well, myself and Srikant have done about 15 to 16 tamil cine songs on MIDI and have staged those songs on stage as part of AALAPANAA music group that we were part of, in India (that was back in 1993-1994). I have those files but they are in standard MIDI (not general MIDI) format. So, it sounds like 'deepavali' :-) when you just download and play it. I am so lazy that I am still yet to convert them to general midi. Infact I have converted about 3 songs (in 15). After coming to US, I just tried my hands on 2 new tamil cine songs:
some of the songs I have:
-------------------------
aasai adigam vechu
nalam vaazha ennaLum en vaazhthukkaL (GM)
raakkamma kaiya thattu (GM)
kaNNane neevara kaathirundhaen (GM)
vaLayosai kalakalakalavena (GM)
chinna chinna aasai
oru maina maina kuruvi
ottagatha kattikkO
ooru sanam thoongirichu
I dont remember the other songs of my mind now...
Srikant must have already put some of these songs somewhere. Check with him.

I have a Yamaha PSR-730, and my midi files are GM or XG. Anyone else usng same standard ?
You need Yamaha Soft synth YSX50, or a XGmidi player to make it sound
sensible. Still nothing beats the output from the keyboard itself !
