LAGAAN LOOSES OSCAR FALLS IN "NO MAN'S LAND"FROM BOSNIA.

VERY IRONIC in a picture on cricket(LAGAAN) the oscar award has landed in "no man's land" from BOSNIA.SADLY,SHYAM SUNDAR.U.

  Today morning I had a tale with my friend about
  chances of "Lagaan" winning the Oscar.
  
  I mentioned that "Even though I don't know Telugu Language and if I watch a Telegu movie,I can understand better than a North Indian people. Similarly North Indian People better understand
  Marathi,Punjabi than South Indian People.
  
  The voters in Oscar are either Americans or Europeans. So,they will understand "No Man's Land" than "Lagaan".
  
  If there is an Asian Oscar , "Lagaan" will beat "No Man's Land" by 10 wickets.

  We had nothing to lose and we lost nothing...Oscars are a big farce, and there's nothing great in winning it...But NOW, our folks will start saying oscars are junk....

  SHYAMSUNDAR.U,
  No Man's Land also won the Golden Globe for foreign film and is a worthy movie. There's nothing ironic about it winning. It was generally considered second choice by most and our Lagaan was the third contendor. It has come a long way to even get noticed and nominated. Let's hope it doesn't end wit this year and the trend will continue into the future.

  i agree with you. oscar award is really a farce. it is meant for only american actors and actresses. very rarely actors from other countries get these awards. asians would miss the chance because in their opinion, we emote a lot. they don't understand that we cry and laugh differently.
  the americans always consider u.s. is the whole world. if lagaan is a good movie, it is a good movie, whether it won or lost.

  the "foreign film category" by academy awards is to recognize "non hollywood" movies. movies that offer a different flavor than what hollywood offers.
  
  they are not obligated to understand and analyze our "so called" culture and give the awards accordingly. Its what appeals to them most is important.
  
  And i think no man's land is a better movie than lagaan. lagaan maybe good for india. but indian standard amd movies are much inferior to most places. with our stupid crying melodramas we deserve to be in the loosers list.
  
  so please do the cry-baby act like loosers do and console yourself that lagaan is a good movieand they didnt see it. something like "chee intha pazham pulikkum"
  
  you want to win an award of another country and you ask that country to understand your "culture" and you dont even know a piddle s**t abt theirs...
  
  i dunno abt you but these stupid crying and song dance arent part of my culture maybe u r from a different india..but in the india that i know there are just normal people..
  
  Lagaan story was improbable. we cant even beat engalnd in 2002 let alone beat them in 1887.. its nonsense. leave it to the movies to hide our inferiority...

  If you want to see Lagaan in US please check out the videos for D2 the Mighty Ducks, Remember the Titans, and a host of other underdog beating the establishment movies - there are atleast 10 such movies every year.
  
  I don't know who made the call in the selection of the "clip" from Lagaan at the Oscar ceremonies. Udit's voice and Aamir wooing the female with "Oh ri cHOri" was one of the most stupidest choices to highlight the film.

  completely agree with you.. its aamir khan's choice and he deserved to loose because of that stupid choice alone.. I felt ashamed at that moment..

  i have seen more musicals than you can count. reserve the musicals lecture for someone else. i have heard it all. musicals are interesting as a genre but if all that i get to see is stupid musicals then its boring..
  
  i hope lagaan's oscar failiure serves some sense to indian movie makers to do away with songs in atleast some of their movies.
  
  and im sure its not part of a culture. if u summarize all the punjabi weddings that have taken place since 30 A.D , it would be 2 % of the songs in hum aapke hain kaun.

  Laagan - It is a good movie with excellent technical aspects and great screenplay. This is the thinking of every indians. But finally what happened? As usual Racism wins here. The biggest mistake , we Indians are doing, is attracted by Foriegn elements, whether it is a pen or movie or award. In this modern world, award means an objects to be purchased. In India, the awards are given as per the 12 memebr committe. If the head is from TN, tamil nadu artists will win more award. If he/she is from Bombay, all Hindi movies will bag awards. World wide racism gets the award. In India, castism and statism gives the award. Very rare exceptions are there everywhere. But now-a-days, it is very very rare to see such rare exceptions. SO, today it is Lagaan, tomorrow it may be something else. So guys don't worry. Even the greatest Tamil Artists never won any National Award. The same way Lagaan didn't win Oscar awards. Forget about the awards. It is all eye-wash and marketting strategy.
