I don't worry too much now.
It's always good to be under dogs and then win.
This will not raise people's expectations to heights and if ARR had done really a great job, then it will be a pleasent surprise to them.
But, ALW should worry more that ARR. ARR has done the job. ALW is the captain of the ship.

I did say all this long time back-ALW must have been daft to invest such a huge amount in a venture that is going to have few takers outside indian community.any way-I am seeing BD next week.I will tell you what it was like. The tickets are so expensive-parking is expensive-atleast I can drive and reach home to brighton by 1'o clock.otherwise, unless you live in london,stay...forget it.Fortunately for me, my wife is not interested.otherwise this whole thing will set me back by 100 pounds!
4.5 million pounds-for what?to do a story that has been done so many times?that is almost 30 crore rupees!thevaiya webber-ukku?

But, yaaro...I somehow feel that you have already formed your opinion about BD.
I might be wrong , but I am open enough to tell you this.

Look at the heading.
See how many people will be delighted with the downfall of BD.
Amazing isn't it?

you are wrong-I am afraid-both ROTFL and CF.If you go back thru my postings,I have always appreciated whatever ARR songsI like,I hope BD falls in that category.I have never trashed ARR or said he is a talentless fluke or knows no music,.I am not like SPM who is out and out fanatic.I live in UK and have just mentioned the practical difficulties of a person in UK and the practical difficulties BD is running into.I metioned these aspects in a posting almost 3 months back.Hope you are convinced.:-)

BD is not a financially viable project for both ALW and also the audience. Better he close up shop and send ARR home where he belongs!

I am a HCIRF, but i will be sad if ARR' efforts won't succeed. ARR is very sincere in his goals and efforts, is savvy and dedicated and i don't see him failing. there is no question of gleeing at the prospects of a failure. we must recognize that ARR is from IR camp, not from ALW or any other school of musical thinking. If ARR succeeds, first happiness is for IR fans. It is not far off when IR's music will also be lapped up by the world. But, somebody has to take it there first and ARR has taken that responsibility and he has said it that Indian film music has gone unappreciated and it has been his gooal to bring it to the world. Godspeed my friend, ARR!
Any sincere effort will not go unnoticed and I know for sure Bombay Dreams is just the beginning not just for Indian talent but for a new musical genre that only Indian talent in capable of!

i am also from london but i think it's too early to say BD will flop. ALW previous shows like 'Cats', 'joseph...coat...', 'starlight express' were all slow starters that took time to become massive hits. ofcourse BD will never match his previous works(nothing released in theatres nowadays will...it's dying in london) but that does not mean failure. the actress Priya Kalidas will become the first asian global star within 5 years. ARR will hit lucky in the west as a producer(if only he could cut down his indian assignments). the summer is only starting and 2 important films 'Bollywood queen' and 'devdas' are out here soon so that will give BD a boost.

Success for bollywood has very rarely come from Westend. Recent bollywood movies that played in Leicester Square, attract the local crowd only so that they can have a good laugh. This recognition should not be seen as the Brits mesmerized by the 'Indie movies' for its art and profund revelations. The 'upmarket crowd', the potential patrons fo Musicals, don't even give a second glance to many of the indian presentations in london. unless if it is by their own boy, eg. 'The Warrior'. In fact the director of this movie, though a coconut, goes around proudly saying that he is more a brit than anything else. The locals here would rather watch, We Will Rock You, by Queen or some other trash.
Commercial success for bollywood, mainly comes from cinema halls in Eastham (immigrant town of London), Traffods shopping complex in Manchester, Star City in Birmingham, etc. I had the fortune of seeing a Govinda movie (i had no choice) in Eastham. The crowd in the theatre is worse than i have seen in a 'Tent Kottai' in india. They talk loudly, whistle, clap, lick icecream and munch salted chips during the movie, and you can't take a step without feeling a potato crisp crushed under your feet. They come in hoards, family of atleast a dozen. the ticket costs them about 5 pounds. Can you imagine this crowd sitting in a Westend Theatre!!! They maynot even be allowed into the theatre even if the musical is running on a loss. I can't imagine families (average of atleast 8-10) paying up 300 pounds to see a musical which can't be as thrilling as Govinda's or Khan's dishum dishums.
The success for this musical will be, 1) indian pride, first indian composer in a london musical, 2) audio sales, 3) more offers for ARR and 4) a wide grin on his fans face. Success in terms of multimillion pounds in ALW pocket or 20th birthday for this musical is going to depend on the reviews that will start flowing in after the previews.
Has anyone, who is in london, seen the posters of BD in the Underground. I am sad to say that, i am extremely disappointed by the posters. they look so non specific. it has no sense of aesthetics or class. I am surprised that Shekar Kapur could only come up with this much when so much of talent is available in graphic designing. I should say among all the stunning posters in the Underground, some of which you want to stare endlessly if not for the arrival of the Tube, BD posters stand out for being plain drab. I seriously want to know what other guys who live in london or those outside london who might have had the opportunity to see these posters, think about these posters.

I have seen the posters-the right way to describe them is -gaudy.loud colors.it mirrors the color pattern seen in the website.I wish ALW had roped in whoever does MR's film posters.

Yaaro it looks like you are using aol online isp as we are getting the same ip address number.
I managed to see the BD posters at Baker Street station and most of them were grafitti'd over. I think especially with the current immigrant situation in the UK, BD is just going to stir up more problems in the community.
Personally, I am actually not too keen to see BD.I was offered free tickets to go and see BD and write an article for the Hot Tickets magazine, but I declined as I have heard a few tracks from the soundtrack, and I am not interested in the slightest to see them performed live. I have heard ARR's work in TFM and I don't need to pay a further £50+ to see them sung with abysmal lyrics and poor advertising in the middle of London.
BD is overall a poor project and ALW would have been better to keep Cats running successfully rather than shutting it down to house BD which will barely break even.

the posters from BD are SUPPOSED to be gaudy... bollywoodish. post-post modernism is the term that comes to mind. Bd will hit one year for sure and then do the provinces but that does not mean failure.
as for east ham cinema's... i just seen 2 tamil films there today @ £10 each and the young tamil boys and maamees are much worse. can someone report back here on what the new ilford UCI complex cinemas is like, please regarding asians making noises etc...

'The locals here would rather watch, We Will Rock You, by Queen or some other trash'
QUEEN-TRASH!!!...... lol.
i also live in london and couldnt agree more about the quality of these postings. gaudy is the word. all it says is, BD- HERO AND HEROINE or some trash like that. no mention of arr anywhere .
the typical eastham, wembley, southhall, tooting crowd (predominantly asian crowd) would rather watch a five pd hindi or other movie than watch BD shelling OUT 30 TO 50 PDS!!!.(PER TICKET)
whos gonna watch BD then!.. well certainly me ,couple of my friends , HCARRFs and some american tourists who cant get ticket for shows like LION KING AND OTHERS.
as for the british-dont even think about it, give them some footfall and big brother stuff and they will be happy.
its too early to predict the commercial sucess(or is it not), but looks like a big blow to ALW financially and the only person who might gain anything out this whole experiment is ARR (I THINK)
sad but thats the truth.
