AR Rahman's Tamil Blockbuster "BOYS"

Rahman's much anticipated "Boys" is set to release soon and everyone is keen on finding out more about this album. Who are the singers? What are the soundtracks like? When is the release date? Will the album be delayed? If anyone has any idea; please post here....

Also; use this thread to discuss this album..

Here is what i found::

Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.

Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.

In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.

Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.

For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

  Guys,
  It is an unofficial information I got from my friend who is involved in the BOYS production, specifically my friend is incharge of music distribution. Heard some clips also, quite impressed. 4 songs will keep rocking through out the year. I will try to convert those songs into mp3 and post it as soon as possible.   ARR hype is ARR's worst enemy in recent times. As for Shankar saying Boys has new sounds and that he is happy with the music, that alone need not be good news for music fans who have enjoyed some of ARR's great songs in the past. In fact, one may recall that it was the same Shankar who, if reports are to be believed, wanted the Bailamore song for Boys and we all know about that song, which, more than anything, appears to have been composed in a hurry by ARR. Let's wait until Boys music releases and then see whether it has ARR's class written all over it.

  Noted playback singer S P Balasubramaniam's son, SPB Charan had sung for the super hit lyrical and musical love story by Mani Rathnam, Alai Payuthey. The song being, Kadhal Sadugudu... After, that he went on to sing in Telugu for R P Patnaik and Mani Sharma in Manasantha Nuvve and Murari, respectively and for MM Kreem in Student No.1 because he had sung the Telugu original of that song. Then SPB Charan was only seen in the screen. Now, the great musical legend, A R Rahman, is supposed to have offered a song to SPB Charan, in Shankar's BOYS. Then for a Mani Ratnam film, now for a Shankar film. This is great for the junior SPB. The movie is basically a youth and a teenage film, so, you can expect a lot of young and fresh voice in that album including, Silambarasan (Who had sung for ARR in Kathir's Kadhal Virus). A R Rahman is supposed to make a grand comeback in TFM after a string of flops in Tamil. Let's not hype up this album and wait for it to be a hit. The album may release in June 2003. A R Rahman will definetly not disappoint his fans, especially if the film is from Mani Ratnam, Shankar, Rajkumar Santoshi or Rajiv Menon. Boys is being produced by A M Rathnam and directed by Shankar, dialogues by Sujatha, Camera by Ravi K Chandran (Kannathil Muthamittal, Dil Chahtha Hai, Koi Mil Gaya).

  GV's demise has greatly slowed down Mani Rathnam's next project. But, the director has chosen his stars. The film is going to be in the lines of Aamir Khan's, Dil Chahtha Hai, the Bollywood mega hit. Trisha and Meera Jasmine have been selected. There were talks that Simran might be in the film. But, the director is yet to accept her whole heartedly. Surya and Shaam have been invited to act in the film. There are chances of Srikanth joining them. Music is going to be composed by, who else, A R Rahman, of course. Mani was greatly impressed when he heard the soundtrack of Boys. He has asked Rahman to compose tunes along the same flavor for this film too. Mani alternatively makes a commercial and art film. This time, it is going to be a complete commercial film.
