Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Naaz: The thiruppaavai album was released some years back. Music by TR Pappa. Another one is sangathamizh with MK's versions of sangam songs sung by VJ & seerkazhi sivachidambaram. A couple that're reaaly nice are - thirumal perumai & ananda lahari in sanskrit. She's also written & composed music for a set of bhakthi paadalgal on murugan (ok album).

Yes, I have that Murugan album with me. There is also another album for which she composed the music on Puttaparthi Sai Baba. It was released by mantralaya music. Have you heard her recent hindi devotionals called BhajanAmrit (released by Navrang audio). There are some really good Meera and Tulsidas Bhajans on that tape. The Sai Baba album has a terrific rendition of the Ashtakams/ Sai Narayaneeyam.
I have been heard that a new Thiruppaavai album is in the works. I will check on more details on that one and let you know for sure.

There is a rare song sung by 3-4 female singers in "Kudumbam oru kadhambam". I think one of them is VJ. (Generally VJ sings in all Visu movies!). The song goes like "kalviyil saraswathi, selvathil lakshmi.."
I think the singers are VJ, BSS, SPS. I am not sure. Can someone verify?

Priya, I think that song is "Engkaathuku Mappillai Nee Ungkathuku Maatup Ponnu Naan"
Veedu Manai Makal - "Nam Veeduthaan.........." I think it is by VJ. It is a dream song.

Priya,
"Dheiveega kalai endrum nilai aanathu" is from the movie "thOdi rAgam" (Nalini, TNSeshagopalan). Another nice VJ song to dance to would be "thottilil thodangidum thAlAttu" from "kaNNE kaniyamudhE". Has solkattu and everything.

No, Ragavan, I am not talking about "Engkaathuku Mappillai Nee Ungkathuku Maatup Ponnu Naan". That is a duet for Bhaskar and Nithya in that mivie. it is sung by SPB-SJ. The song that I am thinking of is sung by Kamala Kamesh, Suhasini, Sumalatha and Sumalatha's kid in a park for the kid's B'day. The staring of the song is
Kalviyil saraswathi
Selvathil Lakshmi....
I am positive it is sung by VJ. But I am not sure of the other 2-3 singers.

Priya other 2 singers are PS and SPS
kalviyil saraswathi
selvathil Lakshmi
dhairyathil vaasugi
PS,SJ and VJ sang together for a Banupriya starrer(music CB) . I think its 'pondatti sonnaa kettukanum'. I dont remember the first line

Has anyone heard the VJ song "Ithuvarai Sivarathiri..." from the film Aadugal Nanaigindrana?
It was the debut film of stage actress Viswapriya (movie flopped!) Music MSV
There is also another good one which goes "Ganga, (J)amuna Saraswathi, Neengal Kulitha Moondru Nadhi..." (MSV) From a film with a similar name Ganga, Nadhigal or something? Ramki might know.

Guys,
Went thru the discussion so far I have a heard a
duet of VJs with TMS its a song about Murugan,
I dont know the movie either. But I like that
song very much. The song start something like
"sathiya thirukOlam muththaiyan vadivendru
thaththuvam arindhen kandha" and VJ starts in the
anupallavi "madhumaiyaay maindhan maasi ...". But
my all time VJ fav. song is ofcourse "ennullil engo engum geetham" followed by "megame megame" and then "kaalam maaralam...". I guess she waas used only for classical numbers. In my opinion considering her diction she was always underutilized in the 80s.

Some strange coincidence may be. Vani has sung quite a few songs that begin "mazhaik kAlam".
1) mazhaik kAlamum panikkAlamum sugamAnavai - Savithiri
2) mazhaik kAla mEgam neer koNdu vanthu - tharaiyil vAzum meengaL
3) mazhaik kAla mEgam onRu maNi Unjal Adiyathu - vAzvE mAyam
4) mazhaik kAla mEgam maharAjan vAzga - Mayor Meenaatchi
5) mazhaik kAlam varuginRathu ponmaNiyOsai kEtkinRathu - ???

How may of you have been amazed by the non-stop 50 second segment in "kavithai KELungaL" that begins with "jagana dheemtha" and goes on to "pARai meethu pavaLa malligai" thru "kizakku veLicham iruttai kizikkattum" and ends with a long "Ohhhhh". The entire 50 second segment is high-pitched and filled with karadu-muradu words. Not a single tiny spot where Vani slips in diction, clarity or pitch. I wonder if there is any singer like that today who can sing that entire 50 seconds without their voice breaking or becoming inaudible. I really really wish that Vani would be given new offers in TFM. She can really save TFM from the mookku padagis, nuninaakku paadagis and sothappal paadagis.
KS, :-). By the way do you know of any more "mazhaik kAlam" songs by VJ?
- From: KS (@ 166.44.247.6)
on: Fri Dec 14 23:41:05 EST 2001
Neel D,
I have been...of course, what drew me initially was the music in the beginning. I would rewind and play it aloud in my second-hand mono player:) And this song was only for VJ. It wouldn't suit anyone else. Undoubtedly, there aren't (m)any who could sing it better than her.
The 5th song you mentioned is Thrisoolam (Mazhai Kaalam varuginrathu then malar thottam) - M.S. Viswanathan & Vanijayaram from Paattum Bharathamum. Listen to it at musicindiaonline.com
btw, I'm just getting to know about VJs songs from this thread:( Great work by u people...keep it up.
