MSV's contribution to TFM is probably unmatched ( notwithstanding claims to the contrary by IR & ARR fans). From the back of my hand ( or head ) as it were I have given MSV's gems under various categories. You are welcome to add to the categories or give other songs that suit the category better.

I am reminded of an old MSV song, Vengaayathai uruchi paarthaa kadaisiyil onnum irukaaathu. :)
No ARR fan has ever condemned MSV. Everybody, except vengaayam, poondu and inji know that. :) Sorry vengayam, NOM. :)
As for IR fans, the vast majority of them have a healthy respect for MSV.
What you have listed is just the tip of the iceberg. An IR fan can probably post ten times the number very easily. :)

Vengayam,
I have beeen listening to a cassette with ooty varai uravu, moondru dheivangal and sumathi ES.
Tunes are good-but interludes?IR scores hands down.I do not want to start a IR vs MSV-but this is my opinion.MSV had the advantage of the greates ever Kannadhasan.IR -VM combo attempts to reach these heights but just fails.Tnne plus interludes IR is no match.

In fact Ninaithale Inikkum would easily appear in my 10 best albums of all times. I love all the songs in that movie.

Naama ooru Singari: superstar style, really cool song.
Ninaithale Inikkum is just awesome. almost as if MSV had a point to prove after IR came in.

How about in the "celebrating female beauty
category"?
"thendralukku endrum vayathu 16" is an absolute classic.
One problem wtih me is that I assume any pre-IR song to be scored by MSV unless I hear otherwise. This song is from the movie layanam. Hope it's by MSV. Anyway, it's an awesome song!

Peeps the first two are MSv(with TKR) the third is KVM. the kind of music MSV-TKM & later mSV gave was mind blowing. the orchestration in Atho antha paravai & paartha gnabakam illayo are just fab even today. The point is today all mDs give more value for jigna velai & less emphasis for the idhayam aspect. the perfect fusionof lyrics & tune happened most of the time in mSV songs.

2.Aaramba kalam .. KJY VJ Listen to the charanams of this song.What an imagination!
3.Natukku kaval - SPB
Listen to all the songs of "Avalukkendru Oor manam".It is a Sridhar movie.An absorbing narration and brilliant understanding between the director and MD.

Good you reminded me of that lovely number Aaramba kaalam.
Also The "Unidatthil ennai Koduthen " was excellent. come to think of it SJ has given excellent songs under MSV baton especially for Sridhar movies like Policekaran Magal, Sumaithangi, Nenjam marapathillai etc. This was much before IR' entry. Most people seem to think that apart fro Singaara velane SJ disappeared before she was reintroduced By IR.

Different MDs had different style.
MSV's songs flowed like a serene river. The mood of the song got never disturbed in the interludes
Ir's style had dams built across the river in forms of interludes. sometimes you got distracted by the majesty of the dam & forgot the river itself.
ARR is likea kattaru or River at the source the river changes course at any given moment sometimes you get waterfalls othertimes you just get washed away.
Hope you get my analogy.
I have a distinct bias towards melody that is why MSv appeals to me more. Both IR & ARR have given top of the drawer stuff which I do enjoy. So there.

my pick would be the title song from nenjam marapadillai. Such an haunting melody and beleive that it MSV-RM had taken about 3 months to decide the above tune.
similarly all the songs from Karnan.

Interestingly, he mentions about a song Kangal... from Avalukkendru oru manam (Sridhar movie), for which Raja has played the Combo organ (the song starts with the Combo organ piece). He says he was really amazed by MSV's working speed / orchestration during the composing.

Avalukkendru oor manam - the PS pathos piece in Managyaril Maharani used to confuse me in my school days.(I had not seen that movie at till 1982) But when i saw the movie i understood the MSV s genius.
Similarly in Ninaithale inikkum after JP & Kamal reach india ,Kamal would ask JP -she would not answer but MSV s Violin in the background will."Thunbam nergayil" song got its due that day!

I am always amazed when I listen to the Neela nayanagalil song from Naalai namathe . The lyrics, music & the singing are insync.
MSV , P Bhim Sing combo also gave good no frills, good music.(all PAA series movies)
MSV Sujatha cine arts case was also good. balaji used to remake Hindi movies but songs used to be original.

Hi,
It is really very rare to find a MD other than MSV , with compositions for such different situations. We can not leave
Desa bhakti - Bharada vilas ... Indiya Nadu...
Dance tunes - Madhavi pon mayilaal... Iru Malargal
Viraga Dhabam - Ammamma keladi Thozhi... Karruppu Panam ( iam using MSV's word as said in an interview )
and so on...
For such diff situations, so many ragams in Carnatic and Hindustani used.
A real genius indeed but truly under-marketed!!

1. Ulagam Suttrum Vaaliban
2. Pudhiya Paravai
3. Ninathale Innikum
4. Anbe Vaa
5. Kaadhalikka Neramillai

Even the poikal Kuthirai - Unnai Enakku pidithirukkirathu song by SPB was from Valees Puthu kavithai thoguppu.
His folk songs:
1.Ennai eduthu thannai koduthu ponavan -Padagoti
2.Manathile meenirukka mathurayile nanirukka-Thaneer Thaneer
3.Thazhyam poo mudichu - Periyaidathu penn
There is a PS song in Rojavin Raja "Oru naal iravu thanimayil irunthen"
It is a club dance song with a different feel .The other club dance peucliar number was "Neeradum Neram nall neram"
