Raja is for Folk and Indian music. ARR is for Jazz and Hollywood style.

Raaja' songs bring the right feelings of belonging in me. Recently, I heard songs from Minsara Kanavu and Iravu. I must say they songs are of a intellectual level, reminded me of Sound of Music and jazz compositions. The feature of these songs are just the opposite of what Raaja has aimed for all his life. Jazz (City stuff) vs Fok(Rural) music.
ARR does not have a talent for folk tunes, but he has begun to show a talent in jazz style of compositions. I am wondering if the tunes, interludes of Minsara Kanavu, Iravu were from some old and contemporary jazz tunes.
The songs of Iruvar and MK are not at all Indian sounding, while the style is a whiff of fresh air and aimed at the city life style and culture, the music is not certainly Indian. IR composed songs based on Indian rhytms, melodies, folk based while using western instruments in a totally radical and never before done fashion.
That is what is ARR is missing, a talented composer who has only just begun to show refinement and class in his compositions is basically bringing the entire jazz and old hollywood film music compositions to India in his own unique manner.
My only question is: are ARR compositions at all original. Like someone observed in one of the queries, ARR's tune Vennilave in MK is a direct inspiration of a Kannad song.

While most of us are tired of this perpetual IR-ARR comparisons (and with ARR always in bad light) it amazes me that there are people who have so much energy to continue having these kind of discussions.
Well, Nithin - please don't let me stop you, just go on ahead. I just wanted to point out that your last paragraph contradicted your earlier ones.

There were several "graameeya" songs in Kizhakku Cheemaiyile too. Listen to "Vandi maadu ettu vacchu munne pogudhamma". For once, VM has written a good song too.

Thalaivaa NOV:
Well, Let us not make comparisions Thalaivaa, We could discuss the positive aspects of both kinds of music, they are too different to be compared.
ARR has given an excellent Jazz based song Vennila vennila, vennilavae, vandhadhe mudarpaarvai in tamizh in the movie Iruvar. I would say this is one of the creative attempts by ARR to make a fusion music of Jazz and TFM and still could make it reach the Paamara Makkal of TFM like me.

Bhaskar - I couldn't help ROTFL when I read your Paamara Makkal of TFM like me.
You, living in the US with a string of degrees, a paamara makkal? :-))))))))))))))))))))

NOV,
I think this is a big digression from the topic.
Ammam thalaivaa naanum oru paamara makkal dhaan as long as the music goes, if I go buy a Jazz Music CD out in the market here, there is a 99% chances that I won't like the way it sounds. I haven't even tried that. Adhe samayam, when ARR comes out with a Tamizh song with Jazz elements of Music in it, I can understand the song, also could appreciate the music that comes along with that.
Same with the Symphony's, If I listen to symphony's I probably cannot listen to them for more than 10 minutes however good it is, either because I cannot understand the music or the music doesn't make any impact in my mind. But ARR comes out with a similar Symphony kind of Orchestration for a Hindi or Tamizh Song for Ex Theri Nigahon pae chaayi in Kabi Na Kabhi, I love the symphony music that comes in the background and am able to appreciate to a greater extent. That is making an impact to the paamara makkal :-))))))
It is the same with IR, there are lot of gramatthu songs sung by so many people, but when IR gives a gramathu song with that special music and orchestration it does make an impact in the minds of the music lovers (Remember Mudhal Mariyadhai and Karagattakaaran).
Even after about 780 movies or so, IR comes out with such an amazingly, heartbreaking gramathu manam kamazhum songs like in Kizhakkum Maerkkum, Annan, it is a boon to listen to them.
For Ex. In Annan there is a songs which has an IR stamp on the song but still they are so new and pleasing to the ears.
Thalaivaa you should listen to the song
Aalamarathu kuyilae kuyilae
Edam unakku irukka irukka
Yesa padikkum kuyilae kuyilae
Thuna unakku irukka irukka
Engae irukku un sOdi
Vakkatta vakkatta vethala paakku
nalla vethala paakku
Kattatta kattatta kalyana pattu
nalla kalyana paattu
The tune and beats is very different and IR's voice and Sujatha's voice so pleasing.

Dear Nitin ,
Naanum TMF DF Kku arimugam aagumvarai " Inda ulagileye ennai vida oru periya die hard / Hard core IR fan irukka mudiyadunnu than irunden, thanks to TMF DF and thanks to all the patrons of TMF page. , but after coming to TMF DF I see there are lot of people like me or more strong IR fans than me. Some how I see lot of contradictory discussions from you in different threads in one thread you say ARR ‘s Ratchagan is messy and in other thread you say it’s one of the greatest of him along with the GRE…….AT Minsara Kanavu and Iruvar. As Mr. Suresh has said in one of the discussions , ARR’s best to date is defenitely "Thiruda Thiruda" ( aduleyum Chandra leka song padathoda title kku droham pannakoodadu inradukkaga irakkumathi seyda podilum) and of course Iruvar has some pleasant ones too. In my openion I have personally liked lot of his songs right from "Roja’ some how there is no lot of variability in his tunes , his technique of using rhythms and instrumentation is really very good , but you see for example when I heard Minsara Kanavu songs for the first time , Ooo Laa lal.la and thanga taamaai magale were really terrific (Of couse Vennilave Vennilave is good but I could not digest the fact that it is inspired from the kannada song which I have mentioned in the other thread, it may be just coincidental as the original raga is the same in both, but the moment I heard the song first time I could immediately trace the original kannada song) , I was constantly listening to the SPB’s "Thanga taamarai" for several weeks ( Man what a great singer SPB is ? inda oru songukke advance pala national Awards kuduthalum podathu) , and as usual ARR ‘s songs of MK did n’t keep me in an ever lasting memory, if I listen to these songs now , I just feel hum! Pathule iduvum onnu of ARR,
This is for our Chella payyan ARR
" Naina ARR chumma MTV style le pasangalukku romba naal viddai kaatikkunu irunda , anga Karthik Raja , Deva , Vidya sagar nnu niraiya peru vidainga kaamikka kathukkunuirukkanga, , konjam unmaileye vithiyasam kaami ba" , Picturization of some songs also make a great impact in listening to some songs , and fortunately there have been some nice young directors who have cooperated very well with ARR for making his " Mukkal Muqabla " kind of stuff.
What about Ir,s "ninaivellam Nitya" , Punnagai Mannan and Many of the Mic Mohan’s movies of IR which had great songs with Jazz based compositions. Nithin Boss neenga IR oda pazhaya Kannada songs kelunga, Kuduthu vechirukkanum thalaiva, starting from "Maatu tappada maga" onwards
meendum ungalai matha threads le follow seyven

I have heard many of Raja's old Kannada songs, amazing tunes. He brought some of them into Tamil also.
I have never criticised Ratchagan and so far never contradicted my own statements. If you read once again, based on the fact that Raja is the most creative and amazingly gifted human being, I am makjng a plea to Raja that there is new trend in the society. Please accept my analysis and information directly from the market and bring out like God from dust a new creature, which only Raja is capable of doing in the music world, who can shed old style and always adopt to new demands and establish even more refreshing standards.
