I always liked Naan Autokaran ( from Batcha). The dance sequence was action packed and tune is quite catchy.
Deva did turn out a good one !

In one of the question regarding re-recording, Deva said that he does not get enough time. Remember, back in old days, when raja composed music over 30 films per year, his re-recording was always good. Then why can't Deva make it?

Deva Sir,
We expect "CHARACTERSTIC" songs from you
"Aval varalae " is the characterstic piece
by L.Subbu (Super instinct, what an album!)
Cut and paste is common in these days please
do not claim it to be original or chracterstic
( boy "resuability" is nicec to listen when we discuss about Software development , not in music).

I do admire deva for some songs. But unfortunately most of them are straight-lift or have 'relations' with other songs. The 'greatest lift' of deva is the song 'Manam virumbude' (film: Nerkkuner). The interlude of violin is a piece composed by L Subramaniam in 1989. I don't remember which album it is. And again this particular song has some connection to the carnatic piece 'manavyalakinchara..' (nalinakanthi raga) but he has changed the raga. Of course we will continue appreciating deva's music but only for his ORIGINAL which is yet to come I believe.

bs, Bhaskar & others - Apologies for not stating my objectives clearly, re the title.
The title of this thread was inspired from Deva's answer to one of the queries: "Why don’t people praise my individuality instead of constantly criticising me?"
Please criticise by all means, but within the limits of decency. Actually, avaroadu interview is waiting to be kiluchufied. :-))
It looks like that the accusations hurled against him are not limited to within this forum, and more importantly, he is well aware of it.
It will also be interesting to discuss on why he is still highly sought after and successful, in spite of the many obvious plagarisms.

a person asking for others' recognition as a reflection of his self worth should be pitied rather than condemned. deva has produced music which has sold well in the market and ergo he is a busy MD. instead of being contented with that, he now seeks accredition from music lovers on creative grounds. it is an universally known fact that most of his works have more than a shade of resemblance to popular numbers and surely that is not an accident or coincidence. perhaps these numbers have so greatly influenced and inspired him that he has adapted them to suit the demands of the producers. that is as generous as one can be to his works.
deva must realise that recognition is earned and not demanded. IR responded to critics' accusations that he copied rasputin et al by unleashing a wave of music that bore his stamp and style. let deva silence his critics by coming out with a music that cannot be attributed to anybody else. that is the only way

as buddy said akkila kkila is a direct lift from a english song -- buffalo soldier.
Deva should be ashamed for giving a interview like this evenafter copying majority of songs from different resources in Nerrukku Ner.

one thing which i hate about deva is when people ask him why he lifts tunes he puts the blame squarely on the producers saying that they pressurize him to do so.how long is he going to say that? he has reached a position in TFM where he no longer needs to be a slave to the producers.if they ask u to do something against your principles,do not do it.if u are still greedy and want to do it then u'll end up in trouble as deva is in right now, after being sued for lifting a song. But if u don't have any principles at all, then forget it!

in addition to my above posting i would like add a note. i saw an interview of gangai amaran once a few years back in TV and he was asked as to how he came up with the raga and the tune for the 'devi sridevi' song
in vaazhve mayam, to which he replied quietly that he was impressed by 'naalam naalam thurunaalam' song from kadhalikka neramillai and had based his song on the same raaga. He said he did not even know about the raaga.
now i like that because he was magnanimous enough to accept the fact and he did not say that he was pressurized to do so.He did a good job with the songs in that film too.deva should a learn a lesson or two from GA on how not to be a hippocrite.

Sure why don't people praise Deva for his originality ? Afterall, who has the ingenuity to lift from such original sources as from titles tracks to tv shows. most of us will remember 'Surabhi' - a a cultural show that used to be aired on DD. Remember the title tune (composed by L.Sub, if i remember right) ? Deva has cleverly used it in his 'manam virumbude' in Nerukku ner. Of course it is common knowledge that 'mamam virumbudey' was inspired from 'manavyanakim'- a carnatic number. another ingenious lift !

to summarize, people should praise deva's originality in lifting tunes!
