6 Songs : Mind Blowing!!

Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

I can't say much based on a review but prem Panicker is a honest critic without bias.personally among Mani's films till now 'Thiruda Thiruda'got horrible reviews but i loved it while 'Bombay' was highly acclaimed but i still consider it as Mani's worst. Also if you look at it,the review never says the movie is bad, only it could have been better. But yes it has reinforced my decision to see the Tamil version first.Depending on how much i like it,i might/might not see 'Yuva'.In fact i would recommend that everyone who understands Tamil should see AE¬ Yuva simply because Mani will always be more comfortable in Tamil than Hindi.

Another review of Yuva/AE: (from ARR yahoogroups)
------------------------------------
Subject: Exclusive YUVA Review
Hi rahmaniacs....
This is sameer with u from dubai, As I was willing, I got the chance to watch YUVA in the very first show.
Its Simply a brilliant piece of direction by
manirathnam. This movie is really worth watching. Like the previews indicated the best part of the movie is 'LALLAN' the character played by junior bachan. His best performance ever. even rani mukerjee who plays the wife of LALLAN did a super job.
Rahmanji's BGM in this movie is superb. What i request to all u guys is "Please watch from the title of the movie" coz the title & BGM for the title display are simple excellent.
I think there is no need to talk abot the songs, its already a big big hit
Devgan & vivek did their job very well.
Rating ************
One of the best from manirathnam.
have a nice time .

if prem panicker's comments are to believed, the movie is going to do really well. The "faults" that he claims to be in the movie, don't even matter for an indian audience. Yuva might dissapoint, but we will have to wait to see if it flops.

- From: F e r r a r i (@ 202.56.254.13)
on: Thu May 20 08:16:41 EDT 2004
In Naga it is tamil version. And it seems it is getting released in Sri Balaji Koramangala as well. Some one told me that, this theatre has DTS. CineFan kodutha phone no la contact panni visaaringa. Naalaiku morning phone pannina, evening show kku ticket kedaikkum appadinu sonnaanga

Balaji does have DTS. I saw gilli there a couple of weeks ago...but the DTS system has some trouble there, suddenly u wouldnt hear dialogues...overall its ok, but not sure whether it deserves a mani movie...the locality is pretty bad...and the crowd...yuck !! I would strongly suggest watching it somewhere else.

review of AE (from ARR yahoogroups)
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/arrahmanfans/message/43894
Hi Guys.
As I informed before, YUVA is Just a simple story
which was presented
very much in an unique style. If such a film gets the
company of AR Rahman's music it becomes a masterpeice.
I did watch this movie from plaza cinema dubai.
show started at 4:30. in between they played trailer
of Troy
Then started YUVA, As usual it started with the censor
certificate it was U/A cert.
Then it started showing the titles, from the moment
the title started I was just excited coz the way it
showed the title was just charming. It was simple but
excellent with the boss's BGM.
Camera roles along the culcutta bridge.
LALLAN(abishek) is the first person appeared on the
screen. he is with his friend in a car following
somebody.
Then comes (mike)Ajay devgan & Esha In a bike ,ajay
drops esha some where and he continues his ride.
(arjun) Vivek was the next who was flirting with
Kareena .. kareena takes a taxi & try to avoid vivek.
vivek runs to stops the taxi, but fails. mike comes
that way and arjun stops the bike , requests to follow
the taxi, he follows and stops the taxi,
arjun gets meera (kareena) again. then mike takes the
bike and moves again .
Lallan comes to the screen again , he asks his friend
who was driving the car to overtaks the bike . he
overtakes it , lallan takes a gun and shoots mike.
arjun witness everything.
This is the key situation of the movie. The director
try to tell the story about how these three crossed
each other.
After this its a flash back of LALLAN. LALLAN
(abhishek) which by my opinion is the best
character in the movie. Abhishek played this character
extremely well. This can be his break which he was
waiting for long. He plays a local rowdy. his deadly
looks really catch the attention. Rani mukerjee who
plays "shashi" LALLAN's wife.
Mostly on bed scenes. exposes more than we expect but
not so vulgar (sometimes reminds me the character she
played in "hey ram"). She really made her character
unforgettable. she plays the struggling side of a wife
.
Songs "NEEM NEEM" & "DOL DOL" are picturised on Rani &
Abhishek.
Then Comes the Flashback of Mike (micheal) , Devgan
(mike) who plays a student leader who wants to change
the political system, rise to expectation. He is also
a physics masterbrain. His ability to do the fight
sequences were really utilized by the director. his
fight sequences are a treat to watch. Esha who plays
the lady love of Mike portrays a modern lady did well.
the "BADAL" Song is picturised on
devgan & Esha .But the song was incomplete , i feel
like this song was forced in .
Next was Arjun's turn. Vivek played the role of ARJUN
who is a Modern flirt freek chap by opinion rose to
mani's standards. Arjun who dreams about america,
suddenly some situations takes his career to a
different path. Definitely this is another
feather in his cap. Kareena (meera) plays a female
form of a flirt, done well. vivek & Kareena gets the
Songs "Fanaa" & " Khuda hafiz".
Title Song "Dakka Laga Bukka" can be heard in the
Background mostly on Devgan. But the full version of
song is picturised on Devgan, Vivek , Esha & 100s of
YUVAs.
Its picturised mosly on Rain looks really great. Sabu
Cyril did a great job.
Om Puri, Anant nag are the other mainstream
characters. Om Puri plays a Bengali
Politician did well with his Bengali accents. Anant
Nag Plays ARJUN's Dad.
AR Rahman Did xtremely well in his songs & the BGM.
BGM is also a key factor of
the movie. You can here some good alaps on the
bckground which are really
catchers.
Watch what happens to these three chaps & how they met
each other on a same place.
you will really love it.

My Predition too came true. The movie is only very ordinary.
Rediff Review Summary:
But diehard Mani Ratnam fans -- and when it comes to Mani I die harder than most -- will view this film as an aberration, a pretender. All sound and fury, amounting to not very much.
