Jaishankar passed away a few days back.
We could take a nostalgic trip down by discussing his hit songs..
My favourites are
Anbulla Maan Vizhiye Aasaiyil or kadhidham - Kuzhandhaiyum Deivamum
Paarvai Ondrey Poodhumey. (Even though this is lifted from a hindi classic by Asha -still sounds great).
Ammamma Kannathil Kannam Vaithu (Even though he doesnt appear during this song he was the hero)
Poovenum Melliya Poonkodi - Kannan Varuvaan.
Jai provided an alternative to the superstars of the time and always had his own place. His movies were entertaining.

Yes, raja_m
Jai was truly in a class of his own. His films were wholesome entertainers, of all hues - James Bondian thrillers, family dramas, rural socials. He was no thespian, and never had any pretensions of being one, but Jai fit into any role and any character like a glove, which is why he could play villain in latter-day Rajni films, and then move onto character roles.
Tamil cinema has suffered an irreplaceable loss in the passing of Jai. May his soul rest in peace. His work will live long after now.

Be it in his James Bond style hero roles, transitioned to villanous roles (in Murattu Kaalai, Padikaathavan) to character roles in later days, Jai performed the roles with consummate ease.
His performance in the song sequence Tholvi Nilai ena ninaithaal from Oomai Vizhigal was a memorable one.
I join the many fans in offering my sympathies to his family. May his soul rest in peace...
My favorites are
Tholvi nilai ena ninaithaal from Oomai Vizhigal
Iravum Varum, Pagalum Varum
Naane varuven

"Makkal Kalaingyar"....Thennagathu...JamesBond" & as Jai Mama..by his fans..I am a great fan of Jai....Jai shankar..Tamil cinema has suffered an irreplaceable loss in the passing of Jai. I pray god for Jai's soul to rest in peace. Jai shankar
The great action hero of the sixties & Seventies.. who has acted in more than 250 films has acted as solo hero in 150 films with most of them being big hits..Jaishankar....more than a actor he was a Good Human...with a Kind heart...He has done lot of charities silenty without any publicity stunts like these days stars do.....he is an versatile actor too..who excelled in variety of roles..
I feel really really bad about the film industry..people...who left with very less importance about the passing of this great actor and paid least attention for the loss of this veteran actor.. also i strongly condemn all these nonsense..."Bull S.it" Tamil Magazines...(especially the ones which brings up special issues for ramba..simran..etc..etc..)which didn't bring up any special articles to pay tribute for this great actor's death...I feel like it was all left unnoticed about the passing of this great actor.
I appreciate the E-magazine AARAAAM THINNAI & TFM Page for bring up a special coverage on Jai's Passing.....
He was not an actor with less identity in tamilnadu..Jai was both a Mass & Class hero..to say an ex for his popularity...one can say the film "Gayatri"..released in the late seventies..casting the so called super star Rajini and Sridevi in lead role and Jaishankar in a Guest role was a big hit at the time, in which rajini acted in a Negative role as a PIMP Marrying girls and Making Porn films while seducing them and selling them to big shots..In which the heroine sridevi would get into the trap of Rajini..and Jai did a Guest role as a Detective who rescue Sridevi in the climax from Villain Rajini.Jai as a detective would be appearing only in few scenes and whenever "JAI" make his entry in the screen there was a big "appalaws" and "visils" from the audience in the theatre..by the time when the film was released Jai was going thru a Lean Patch in carrier..even then still he had his own karishma..and popularity..this was one sample for his popularity..
I feel really happy about dicussing about the great actor Jaishankar...Thanks a Lot RAJA_M for initiating this discussion on Jai and I appreciate all others who had left thier memorable thoughts about the great Hero Jaishankar Even Though Jaishankar is not with us ... for sure he would be remembered for his acting.. and would be in the millions of tamil hearts for long time....
Sugrutha ...yes Kanimutthu Pappa ...was a Jai Film..Directed By SP.MUTHURAMAN...and Written and Produced by KC.GUHANATHAN..KC.G'S wife Jaya Acted in the movies as a pair of Jai....
Would Come Soon with more interesting info about the Great ACtor Jai.....

Nagul,
I really enjoyed your 'article' on Mr. Jai Shankar. Everybody welcomes You to post more such wonderful stuff abt a wonderful actor. I've always found him to be a very stylish actor. The way he walks & the way he walks off after being in a stationary position are two of the specialities of his styles. I've always enjoyed his films both comedic & spy thrillers a lot.
I will miss him. We all will miss him.

Sad to hear that Jai passed awawy. Good guy, tried his best to stay focussed in the period of MGR and Shivaji dominance. Jai is related, somewhat distantly, to Sir C. V. Raman and Dr. S. Chandrashekar..who won Nobel prizes..It is interesting that he made an acting career for himself. I heard he was a graduate of Layola..
I really enjoyed the movies he made with Modern Theatres Studios in Salem, which is my native..!
Folks: The movies CID Shankar, Vallavan Oruvan are amazing imitations of Ian Flemings James Bond..But they were so enjoyable..considering the facts these movies made entirely around salem..you see the Car chases and fight scences were filmed in Yercaud, a small hill station near Salem..Yet Modern theatres gave very good movies with lots of innivations in movie making, by staying entirely out of Kodambakkam...
Interestingly the director and producer of these movies, I guess the Tamil equivalent of Ian Flemings and Albert Broccolli is R. M. Sundam, is actually a graduate of electrical engineering from PSG Tech! He later went to England from some higher studies stint (he did't get anywhere) but turned to movie making following his father, Ramasundaram. He was fond of Jai, and he indicated this during a felicitation we gave him at PSG Tech sometime in 1982.
Although these two movies were imitations of James Bond movies, they did a pretty good job of making a story for fun and entertainment...I miss them.
Incidentally, there is a CD that has 15 hit songs: "Hits of Jayashankar: by The Gramophone Co. of India. I just picked one up in a shop close to UC Berkeley Campus. It is worth buying it and has many of the songs posted here.
Bye
