  Lets get on with the purpose.
  Lets begin with Ilayaraja's background scores.
  There are too many good numbers. Some of the great pieces are -
  
  The solo violin piece in Mahanadhi, when Kamalhassan comes to know about the hardships his daughter faced when she was in Calcutta.
  
  Ofcourse, the Sindhu Bhairavi piece whenever JKB and Sindhu meet-up. Believe the music summarises the movie itself.

  TO START OFF with :The Pride of south Dr.KJY has done a commendable job in Pithamagan . Any Thaala experts here to point out how many rhythm combos the Maestro himself has used in the song "ADADA AHANGARA ".As fas as i know he has used many thaala kaatus inclusive of diiferent nadais of the same thaalam .

  if everything is music then everything is good that is not the case with IR and his innumerable flops.

  Hey guys chill out . No one is crap or useless in Music. Music beckons those who appreciate it . Rahman is a kind of his own and IR is inimitable and God like to music.Leta all stick to the technical nuances of music .Still waitng or a reply on the Pithamagan song that I had asked for.

  In the "Adada" song, i cant figure out what raga it is but i can say that it has all swaras in Malayamarutham raga except the "dhaivatam".
  The pallavi is set to Rupakam tala and the charanams are in Adi, though the same beat is used throughout.

  Welcome Ramya ,
  It is not enough if you say it resembles malayamarudham .
  Speak more technical.
  
  State the Aarohanam ,avarohanam and say what all are missing so that novices like me can understand .
  
  The adithalam also includes sankerrna nadai i suppose,pallavai is roopakam and thats correct.
  Same beat is used but the usage is amazing !!!!
  Ramya : tell all our friends and foes to contribute to this .

  Good observations on IRs BGM. Here is another one.
  
  Climax of Kathadlukku Mariyathai -- When Srevidhaya & Family was about to say goodbye and leave. The whole sequence of Tabla and Solo Violins are something unique.

  Durai, I didn't see the movie Kadhalukku Mariyaadhai. But anyway it should be one of the best of Ilayaraajaa's BGMs.
  
  Also one of my favourite connection pieces between stanzas in the song Punniyam Thedi, where Ilaya's SOLO violin (Sindhu Bhairavi ragam) pours the emotions accompanied with the pearl of lyrics.
  
  One more such solo violin pieces in the song AAGAAYA VENNILAAVE in the movie Arangetra Velai.

  I would like to share one of the best of Hariharan.The hum of "Oru Poiyaavadhu Sol Kanne" from Jodi.His voice has changed that "Sad" song into a song of "Agony".Too good to resist.

  If there can be a layman to everything about music, itz me.
  Adadaa in pithamagan is not set to the tune of one specific raaga, but appears to be like janya of natabhairavi (interlude resembles sindhubhairavi). I can obviously be wrong.
  
  examples of thaala selection by Ilaiyaraaja
  thaalam:
  kandachappu - azhagu malar aadha (vaidehi kathirundal) raagam: chandrakouns
  misra chaapu - meendum meendum (vikram) raagam: madhuvanthi
  anbe vaa arugila(kiliperhcu ketkava) raagam: gowrimanohari
  ponvaanam panneer(inru nee naalai naan) raagam: gowrimanohari

  Mahesh,
  Kadhaluku Mariyadhai -- is a must see for all IR fans. The movie is a great treat of songs, BGM, storyline, dialogs.
  
  The climax is one of IR's all time best. He really carried the movie in the climax and made it so powerful.

  Vizhiyil Vizhundu -- Alaigal Oyivadhilai is a classic use of Sudha Dhayashi by IR.

  I Welcome the so called Layman But the high level intellectual in Music Mr.Sudhan Into the group.
  
  Expecting his continued support and guidance to this forum of the so called intellectuals .
  
  The Usage os Sudha dhanyasi in the link provided by Sudhan is amazing that show to what extent the usage of the raagam in a particular situatin can change the basics of the Raagam that the layman is accustomed to .
  Same is the case of Manjolai Kili dhaano .....
  
  That is really excellent and kudos to dorai for bringing it out !!!
