Can somebody post a review of Parthen Rasithen? I hear the movie is good (Directed by Saran, Vaali and amarkalam fame)

KK: Saran's first movie is Kaathal Mannan. (Vaali was by Surya, Kushi fame :)
But you want a music or movie review? for the former, you know where to go.

I want to know, what is with this craze for a number one? Why is it only the person considered the best is appreciated, why is it only he is followed? Like say A R Rehman in music , or Shah Rukh Khan in acting, or Sachin Tendulkar in cricket? Why are the others ignored, why do they have to work twice as hard to get the attention of the fans?
Does he sound a bit jealous ? :-)

Good thing about him is one of the original.
I think he never figured in copied tfm list.
But i dont find his music any great nor his style is so attractive, in fact it sounds repeatative. HIs Bgm is real bad. just plays some sample cd kind of music and more like sound effect than bgm. couldnt tolerate in Amarkalam (though the movie much more irritating)
he is B-.

Well, "Parthean rasithean" and "ennakeana etraval" songs are great. The movie is getting great reviews. Nice visualization as well. Must be influenced by "My best friend's wedding":-)). Simran was great as the friend...best film by Charan so far, not the best album by Bharadwaj so far...

Somehow, I started liking Bharadwaj's music and waiting to hear a lot of albums from him.
kadhal mannan had good songs:
1) unnai partha pinbu thaan - SPB
2) Thillothama - somehow, I feel this song went unnoticed by bharadwaj & KSC. Initially fast, then slow and finally fast paced song.
3) vaanum mannum otti kondathe - HH & KSC
4) metti thedi alaiyuthu oru pattu - MSV
Pooveli had :
1) Oru poo ezhudum kavithai - UK * KSC
2) o shalini, o shalini - SPB
3) Idhu thaan kadhaala
Rojavanam had:
Unnai partha kangal innum mooda villai - HH
Enna idhu enna idhu a fast paced song by AS * HH
Pollachi sandhaiyila
Amaarkalam almost everybody knows.

Most popular song from 'PR' is 'thiNNade ennai thinnadhe' :))
Though the 'ennuLLe ennuLLE edhedho edhedho ..aenendru ariyenadi'(kuttikrishnan and Harini)
sounds good this song sounds very very familiar but im not able to locate the source of 'inspiration'

Review of pArththEn rasiththEn
1. Enakkena yErkkaNavE - Unnikrishnan & Harini
Pros :
Bharatwaj has done a great job in this song. Clever fusion of Carnatic & Western. Much assisted by UK & Harini.
Especially, Harini in high pitch, sounds much like chitra. Unnikrishnan, sings out effortlessly.
The music shifts on lines "kaNgal unnai kandathAlE kaNNE sirandhadhadi ...", Excellent. Vairamuthu penned some
decent lyrics for this song. Vairamuthu scores in lines "Varththai ennai kaividum pOthu mounam virumbukirEn .."
The music pieces before both charanams are outstanding.
Cons :
Vairamuthu slips in his usual style of lines. Eg. "Idhayaththai kayiru katti izhuththaval ivaLO".
In some places the song sounds much like, "Minnal oru kOdi endhan uyir .." from VIP.
Inspired ?
Score :
Tune : 6/10
Presentation : 8/10
Lyrics : 7/10
Singing : 9/10
Pronounciation : 8/10
2. Kedaikkala kedaikkala - Srinivas
Pros :
Typical DEVA type GANA song. But still with some melody "eeram". Catchy starting music. Some good lyrics like "en thalayezhuththa brammanavan edathu kaiyAl kirikkittAn".
Nice shift of music from "enna paththi kavi ezhudha ..". Good dappanguththu beats. Tamilnadu-il uLLa Tea kadaigalil indha pAttu innum konja nAAL kEtkum.
Cons :
Sounds much like "Thiruppathi yEzhumala .." from Ninaivirukkum varai. Some words cannot be heared, either by percussion or by poor pronounciation.
Too much beats. Cannot listen to this song in a Hifi music system. (I got complaints from neighbours.) Strictly not for loud listening. Walkmans Prohibited. ;-)
Score :
Tune : 4/10 (For same GANA tune)
Presentation : 5/10
Lyrics : 6/10
Singing : 5/10 (In some places, what he sings ?)
Pronounciation : 3/10
3. ParththEn rasiththEn .. - Yugendran, Reshmi
Pros :
Nice blend of Ilaiyaraaja & ARRahman. Good orchestration & Composition. Bharatwaj has done a excellent job.
There is a bright future for Yugendran. Hey, can't believe his voice yaar ! (compared to his father's voice)
In some place he sounds like SPB (Especially, in that line " adada adada adada". Great. Decent lyrics, nothing great.
Cons :
I don't know when VM will stop writing like "kattazhagu kannaththil adikka ...".
I had a feeling that, orchestration is too simple for this song. I expected more from BWaj in this song.
Score :
Tune : 6/10
Presentation : 8/10
Lyrics : 6/10
Singing : 9/10
Pronounciation : 8/10
4. Poove punnagai kAttu oru photo .. - Sonu nigam, Vasundra Das
Pros :
None in my opinion
Cons :
The song starts with a music that AIR plays daily morning. And it has been used in a song "ulagangal yAvum un arasAngamE - Sirkazhi Govindarajan"
And, the song shifts to the starting music of "In the summer time .." (In Tamil, "Adi anarkali konjam kELadi..-Ullaththai aLLi thA - Sirpi")
Then immediately, when the vocal starts, it switches to "vArAyo thOzhi vArAyo thOzhi vA vandhu lootti .. - Jeans, AR Rahman").
And Sonu Nigam & Vasundra Das tried their maximum to kill Tamil like kaththu for "kATTu" and lot of other words. And almost no word is understandable in their singing. I got this "poove punnagai "kaththu" lines, after 2-3 listenings.
God ! Save Tamil !!
Sonu Nigam was there in "Jeans" song too. The charanam is entirely lifted from the Jeans song. I don't remember any occassion, that Bharatwaj copied !
Now he joins the TFM Xerox-ers club.
Score :
Tune : 2/10
Presentation : 3/10
Lyrics : 6/10
Singing : 4/10 (For his effort)
Pronounciation : 2/10 (Please try to improve)
5. ThinnathE ennai thinnathE - Shankar Mahadevan, Anuradha Sriram
Pros :
Good catchy song. Nice beats. It's a definite hit song.
The only person to sing this type of song in tamil is Anuradha. She is at her best.
I wonder, how this song is very clear ? I didn't miss single word in this song.
Not to worry about pronounciation in this type of songs. :-)
Cons :
Poor lyrics like "Nee saivam thaane peNNE ennai thinnathE"
"Poo meedhu petrol-ai utrivittai"
VM ! come out of that gundu chatti, man. When I am going to listen a song like "Idhu oru ponn mAlai" standard ?!!!!
6. vaa endrathu ulagam - "Top star" Prashanth
Pros :
A much publicised song in this album. Good effort by Prashanth. That's it. Nothing special.
Cons :
Starting music, irritates. Whole song is western, but why this much noise ? Give a gap to breath, man.
And in starting, I had a doubt, whether prashanth is reading or singing. :o)).
Score :
Tune : 4/10
Presentation : 4/10
Lyrics : 6/10
Singing : 5/10
Pronounciation : 4/10
OVERALL RATING :
An average album. Bharatwaj proves again by giving good songs, but not up to the mark. He needs more homework to do.
Better luck next time.
BETTER BUY :
Compact Disc ( )
Original Cassette (*)
Recorded Cassette ( )
In Combinations ( )
Not worthy ( )
Bye.
Tailpiece :
If you tell me to review music for film, I would have given 9/10. Excellent care taken in re-recording. Well done, BWaj !!

Vivek,
The "Enakkena yErkkaNavE" song, IMHO is inspired by the folk number "KAkaiSIragINIleY NanthA LAAla". What do you think.

Yeah nvd,
It sounds quite similar. May be of same raaga. (I am a zero in Carnatic music).
Somebody knows carnatic music can clarify ?

Here's a good review of Parthen Rasithen...with specific raaga mentions of 'thinnathey' and 'enakena erkanave'!
<http://www.themusicmagazine.com/parthen.html>
The reviewer also seems to hate Prashanth's singing! I think he's right, too!

On Karthik's review (music magazine):
'thinnathe' i think is based on sriranjani, not reetigowla. Surprised to note no comments on the 'lyrics' of this song.
He could've titled 'Prasanth cannot be heard also' :-)
- From: cyk (@ 216.65.106.130)
on: Wed Aug 30 06:55:44 EDT 2000
RR:
Doesnt 'thinnathey' sound more like Mudhalvan's 'azhagana raatchasiye'? I checked out a few songs in sriranjani like 'naadham ezhundhadadi' from gopura vaasalile but i think the Mudhalvan number seems like a closer match...doesnt it?

'ennuLLe ennuLLe' based on same raaga as 'Narumugaiye'(iruvar)?. I can see some similarities in these 2 especially in the charanams.
