All times in EST +10:30 for IST.
Of late there had been enough panning on Deva for giving wonderful "remix / xerox" songs. But I feel that he has done a decent job in giving some original compositions too. eg.
(1)Porul thedum bhoomiyil (By chitra in Kalki)
(2)Metti Metti velli metti (By SJ in Pullai kuttikkaran)
(3)Konja Naal Poruthalaiva
(4)Un udhattoram sivappai
I wish TFM fans contribute to this thread without digressing to cast criticizms on him.

"What about DEVA becoming a full fledged Playback Singer for a CHANGE>... "(NO HELL NO ! ! ! !)
PLEASE NO, NOT DEVA, IF HE READS YOUR COMMENT THEN HE WILL START SINGING ALL THE DueT AND LOVE SONGS WHICH ARE GENERALLY GIVEN TO HH, UK, OR SPB. PLEASE DON'T MAKE HIM DO THAT TO TFM. I THINK HE HAS DONE ENOUGHT TO TFM. I WAS JUST HOPING THAT HE IS GOING TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF SONGS OR STOP(WHICH I PERSONALLY PREFER)SINGING.
I THINKING WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH TROUBLE WITH UDIT NARAYANAM TRYING SINGING TAMIL SONGS AND ( . . . WELL YOU KNOW THAT REST . . . )
Fans in Singapore for Deva ( OH NO ! ! ! PLESE DONT TELL ME . . . NO NO I REFUSE TO HEAR THIS STORY . . . and to think for all this time I thought that people in Singapore were straight)

Thozhar P.Lankathas avargalae,
I wish you would read Swarapriyan's initial comments at the start of this thread so you can at least get close to what this thread is about. Poor Swarapriyan, he must be a chronic optimist to think we would all abide by his request and stick to the criteria he laid down. And could you please be ever so kind to NOT USE ALL CAPS AGAIN for an entire posting?

The best composition of Deva IMO, is "oru
penn puRa" song from Annamalai. Really amazing.
Interludes are smooth and meaningful. KJJ has
rendered that very well.

Dear Lankathas, My request which Udhaya was trying to mention is that "let us not criticize Deva" and that "we list his original songs" only to make a good collection. Hope your doubts are cleared.

He doesn't have any GOOD original songs. Don't you people get it. Yes I like Deva's music too, but they are all copied. One way or another

I don't find anything wrong in people saying that this particular song is a copied one.
One of us give a list of "original" songs of deva.I find a couple of them copied. I claim that it's not an original work of his. Then people start saying that this thread is meant for listing only original songs of Deva and NOT deva bashing.
One can't stop from posting his claim if he finds that a particular number has been cut-and-pasted (the objective is to prove that it's not an original work of deva and NOT Deva bashing)!!!

Lankathas: Saying a particular song is copied and not original is very much within the purview of this thread. That doesn't cover dEvA bashing though. Say that song is copid fine, but you don't have to then why he did it, or call on God to help you. That is where you start dEvA bashing.

Aiyoo! Didn't you people know?!! All songs of the same raga sound similar!! (Read it with humour)
By the way
In the VijiaKanth starrer"En aasai Maachan" there was this song that goes like this" adi yilla thethi vachu aavaniyil sethi" something which is sung by Chitra. It was a hit song. I believe that that song was an original of Devas. Truly, some songs romba nalla senjurikiraar.

Like IR, Deva has a rustic voice (meesa kara
nanba) and now that nagoor hamid has died I don't
see why he can't sing rustic songs.

Some of the melodies given by deva are being grossly overlooked under the pretext of suspecion of the originality of the tune( I am not debating this!). There are some real efficacious melodies given by him like the following
1. pORALE pORALE - unnai thEdi
2. nALai kAlai - unnai thEdi
3. chinna chinna kuyilE - kannethirE thOndrinAL
4. kaNavE kaliyAthE - kannethirE thOndrinAL
5. kObama enmEl kObama - unnudan
Surprisingly most of these melodies have been rendered by hariharan (along with others) , who often loses his sruti at high pitches(IMO). In the song 'naalai kaalai nERil varuvALa' , which is a good melody , his conspicuous struggle at high pitch is noticeable as he screams 'thaatchaayani.....'. He almost sounds like deva in couple of places! This is because (i think) , he is trying to present a higher note rendition with some tweaking as he does in low pitched brigaas and fails in his endeavour. He should stick to singing it flat with no variation there by not spoiling the song. The song otherwise is a nice one with flute and guitar interludes. 'pORALE pORALE' is another good melody where hariharan has rendered it without trying to perform any vocal acrobatics. The interluding percussion beat (bongos ?) having a resounding effect is amazing and is a novel technique used in folk songs. "Chinna chinna kuyilE" is another excellent melody with anu's humming in the backround and one can see the difference again here where hariharan has controlled his voice by not going overboard and spoiling the song. The second interlude with mridhangam percussions has shobana's rendering which starts like 'enniyathun..' with excellent gamaka presentation where she ends as 'kaRpanaiyE.....'. 'kaNavE kalaiyAthE' is another fabulous melody based on desh raga. Unnikrishnan is a good choice for this song as he renders the higher note lines 'chinna thiruvAi malarvAyA..' fluently. He doesn't struggle like hariharan at high pitch. The ghatam is adroitly used in this song and the interluding konnakkol by chita 'thAm thakita thOm thaka thimi' is amazing .
