T.Rajendar - The best MD of our times

TR - the unrecognized, under-discussed, sparkling gem of TFM industy. His talent has been overshadowed by the hype and hyperbole around IR & ARR, by their respective HCFs. I hate to say this, but can any of them be even compared to the bright shining star of TR?

  I think the admins should impose a fee (say $25.00) for starting a thread. Also, a bad thread should be followed by a fine of minimum $500.00. This seems to be the only way to prevent threads like this one.

  BT, when I saw ur post in the IR vs. HJ thread, I thought u were trying to be funny. I had no idea u were a genuine T.Rajendar fan.
  btw, isn't T.Rajendar's son the puny guy who acts as a hero these days? Can someone please knock some sense into these people?

  A man who can compose "vaigai karai kAtrE nillu" and "idhu kuzhandhai pAdum thAlAttu" (and several other absolute gems - check out dhool) is no joker. Not by any stretch of imagination. Whats more, he also wrote good lines for his songs. No mean achievement. I really wonder why he wasnt more consistent.

  hari is right..please .guys dont TR into a clown, even though he himself got into trouble messing with politics/politicians !! I really, like his lyrics, more than the melody and orchestration. I even think it might be a good idea for him to pen just lyrics and let youngsters like YSR do the songs. I think he overreached himself but trying all aspects of movie making.

  Don't go by appearances ,it can decieve.
  TR had(s) the potential to be a good MD. His work in outside movies where he did not direct like Kilinjalgal ( Durai) & Pookalai Parikkathirgal( V.Azhagappan) are pointers to this. In most of his movies there used to be at least one good melody. Moongilee paatissaikkum ( Raagam Thedum Pallavi) is a beauty.In 80 when Oru Thalai raagam was released the songs were blared in every nook & corner. Mythili en Kaathali had also some good songs( engum Maithili sung sylishly by SPB) So please don't insult yourself by insulting TR. He really has twhat it takes to be a good MD

  Accepted that TR has given few good songs and that he had the potential to bloom into a decent MD. He is definitely better than SAR, Adhithyan, Sirpy and the likes...

  2) Vakai karai katre nillu - Jeyachandran
  3) Vasantha kaalanghal - Jeyachandran
  4) Oru pon maanai naan paada - SPB
  5) Vasantham paadi vaara - SPB
  6) Monngilile paadisaithu - SPB
  7) Azh kaadalil thathalithu - SPB
  8) Thinam thinam un mugham - SPB
  
  ... SO ON, NEVER MIND THE LOOKS, HE IS A VERY TALENTED DIRECTOR, PRODUCER & MUSIC DIRECTOR INDEED!

  TR has done some excellent songs. To be honest, I used make my daughter sleep by singing by couple of IR's melodies.
  
  Apart from IR's melodies, I used sing 'Thoal Meedhu thaalatta, en pachai kili nee thoongu' from TR also.
  
  However, TR does not compose like IR or ARR does. He comes out with good melodies first. Mostly he expresses his melodies by singing, while ARR or IR plays it in their Keyboard and Harmonium respectively(and they write it).
  
  Then it is the Music Arranger's responsibility to make his single solo melody into a song by writing it, adding chords, rhythmns etc. Again, TR either 'tells' the rhythmn or plays it on the table.
  
  This does not make him a full blown MD as IR or ARR do. However he has come out with some very good songs, with his ability. I really honor it.
  
  The truth about the current situation is, if you just have some new melodies, then you can hire a team of professionals and make a song.

  I would not disagree with the topic.
  
  TR has given some excellent songs, that too when IR was at his best.
  
  "Rail Payanangalil" or ""Ory Thalai Raagam" or "Kilinjalgal" were excellent.
  
  
  It is a pity that TR concentrated more in direction/acting etc which was unnatutal to him more than in composing music in which he was very good. He was a good lyricist too.
  
  That does not mean that I respect craps like "Monisha en Molisa" .
  
  TR of early eighties is better that ARR of early 2000's.

  TR s biggest contribution to Tamil Nadu is the glorification of College Festivals (gora koothugal!) ,Arthamillatha adukku mozhigal (Sadalam,Sabalam et all!)..Kaatu koochal

  dont make too much fun of TR guys! If the history of TFM is written you can leave out guys like Sirpi, SAR, the new guys like Baradwaj, HJ etc, and even arguably guys like Gangai Amaran, and Vidyasagar, but you cannot afford to ignore TR. Summa penaathaatheenga please!

  I also read in the news that he took courses in composing music using computers -- loop, programming, etc recently. His new work "Kathal Azhivathillai" speaks to his new tricks learned. Actually one or two songs in the album are not bad at all. I would like to hear more about people's thought on this...

  I remember TR when he was at his peak-dont rubbish him without knowing his popularity chaps.
  he had his style-he was VERY popular.His movies ran silver jubilees.we may not like his movies.He was a good lyricist.
  OISG-fo you know the song you have made fun of is one of SPB's own favorites among the songs he has sung?
  he apparently had a funny way of composing but did he sell!
  I agree with cheenu-his nos in mythili EK,uyirulla varai usha,kilinjalgal,thangaikor geetham are all far better than the rubbish which ARR doles out to his fans in form of alli arjuna,star etc...any day!

  i dont really agree with the thread... but no one can deny the fact that TR gave us all-time hits... just 'coz he cant repeat the same thing now, doesnt mean that he's crap.

  SPB likes "Vasamilla malirthu" ..I too like it.But tell me how it makes TR the best MD of our times.
  
  TR s songs were simple Tamil Katturai set to music.
  
  The reviewer ( Shashi ???)in ARRs page on "Sangmam" clearly points out TR s weakness in tune making.Jamming words with in the Sandham was his biggest weakness.
  
  There were too less number of free flowing songs.The arrangements were, i think by Vaithi Laxman (L.Vaidyanathan).Purely the arrangers managed to make the songs impressive.
  
  I still feel AA Raj managed the arrangements in OTR.Please listen to "Vasantha Azahipugal" (Deva logam Azahithalum by SJ) and "Udhayamagirathu" songs.The arrangements will show plenty of maturity .
  
  TR -ARR - dont try comparing the likes of "All Rounder -Robin singh" with Sachin Tendulkar!
