'paadhukaappu' was one of the last few films by the veteran Bhim singh!

I remember to have seen 'paadhukaappu' in my school days. It was the Tamil version of some Telugu film 'jalakannika'. Somewhere, Major ( who also acted in the film) has commented that while in 'jalakannika', the heroine was murdered, in 'paadhkaappu', it was the film which got murdered! The film had a meaty role for JJ as against a very light role for Sivaji. JJ was indeed the dancer in 'vara cholladi'. About the lyrics, somewhere in this forum I have read an interesting analysis of how suggestive this song is, very subtly mixing 'deiveegam' of Lord Muruga / VaLLi / Deivanai with lines that unabashedly titillate!<<<<<<<<

There used to be one more song in 'paadhukaappu'-perhaps TMS-PS or TMS-LRE- some kind of a party song inside a ship: 'sorgam pOvOm' in which Sivaji comes with a weird Frenchie and a guitar!!!

I am surprised to find out that there are 4 PS-SPB duets in one film , that too, a Sivaji starrer (Yamanukku Yaman). I do not seem to be familiar with any of them:) Possibly, this should be the Tamil film having a max no of PS-SPB duets.

I was referring specifically to PS-SPB duets. Ninaiththale Inikkum had only one PS-SPB duet - Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum KeLir.It had other duets
SPB-VJ : Bharathi Kannamma
SPB-SJ : Ninaiththale Inikkum
and SPB solos : Namma Ooru Singaari, Engeyum Eppodhum.

Ramprasad: I guess yamanukku Yaman is a remake
of a Telugu movie with music by Satyam. That could explain the unusually large number of SPB-PS duets.

Thanks. Yes, this could well be the reason for so many PS-SPB duets in this film.Not many Tamil films have even 3 PS-SPB duets. This could be an interesting exercise - trying to recall films with 3 PS-SPB duets !

The song you refer is Malar..edhu..en kangalthaan..
It is a masterpiece and the song had Ilayaraja playing guitar, MSV's excellent tune and PS mellifluous voice that brings the youth in toto and especially the start when she utters "Malar".

Padagu Padagu Aasai Padagu always irritates me and yes Malar Edhu is a masterpiece - what a song, especially when PS sings Naan (this song is available in the SOTD archives - a gem for any PS fan).

This is inspired by Raja's comments about Padagu Padagu. I may be risking my life asking this question to all the die-hard PS fans:) (I am one of them) : Just for a change, should we start discussing songs of PS, which we do not like, due to some reason or the other?
From my side, I can list "Ranga Rangaiah Enge Ponalum" from VaRumaiyin NiRam Sivappu.The reason could be that this is one of the few songs where PS sings thro the nose:)
