OISG, you mention that Iruvar was arr's first period movie. i think it was asokan.
- From: magix (@ 203.199.248.40)
on: Tue Aug 20 11:58:35 EDT 2002
asokan was yodha's remake in tamil..
so i guess, Iruvar WAS his 1st period film.. if u choose to ignore bombay. which brings me back to the confusion of what a period film ACTUALLY means! :)

I guess the MD for both Malayalam and Tamil movie was ARR. Ashokan was ARR's 2nd movie.
I am not sure Ashokan is a epriod movie but if it is. thats ARR's first period movie

uh oh!
yodha wasnt a period movie.. AFAIK.
Asokan was a remake/dubbing of yodha.

If you mean the malayalam Ashokan starring Mohanlal...it is set in the contemporary time but takes Mohanlal to Nepal to battle evil forces samurai style. I dont think it is a period movie.

Hi BB its 'Anjali Anjali' song from Duet
its set to Mandu/Maand.
The old famous one is 'Oru Naal Pothuma' from the movie Thiruvilayadal.
RAJAG have you sung 'Anjali Anjali' song in ur concerts ?
- From: rajaG (@ 208.24.179.129)
on: Tue Aug 20 15:03:34 EDT 2002
UV: Yes I have sung Anjali Anjali in my concerts. Somehow, I will not categorize Anjali Anjali (and that too only the pallavi portion) as maand. I am not saying that it does not have shades of maand (in the pallavi), but since most of the song is out of this raaga (on any one raaga in particular) I will hesitate to categorize this song as maand (or any single raaga).

A job perfectly done. Nice gift for ARR on his 10th birthday in TFM scene. I also liked the way the pictures (good ones!) were nicely arranged suitably along with the text.
To reiterate what OISG said in one of those articles, Duet and Iruvar are his best albums to date, IMO.
Let us wish ARR the best and may God bless him.
Thanks everyone for this wonderful effort.

Some of my most favorite albums of ARR missed in the write-ups.
Pudhiya Mugam, Super Police (Telugu), Gang Master (Telugu), and Vande Maatharam. :-)
UV: As a knowledgeable friend of mine pointed out to me, the charaNams of Anjali Anjali do come back to maand. I stand corrected.

:)
Thats cool, since we where are all in a tight schedule I missed out VandeMaatharam and special note on Duet and also Dilse(Dhiya Chaale based on Natabhairavi).
May be next time I will write up that. In duet album there is also an interesting peice of sax by Kadri Gopalnath based on Raag KalyanaVasantham have you listened to that peice?

i think pudhiya mugam was my fault. I confused the release dates and thought it was in 1992 instead of 93.
any suggestion WN & others..

Mr. (^!^) none of us want that comparison, they are two different entity that exists on their own and no comparison please.
I believe they shine on their individuality and please lets not bring down this thread by comparisons. Worst insult to any musicians is when they are compared unnecessarily. Hope you understand and respect that. There are already 100s of thread for these kind of mud slinging ,thats not the purpose of this thread
thanks

i know that i don't want to spoil this thread...Sorry Guys
U have quoted "none of us want that comparison, they are two different entity that exists on their own and no comparison please. "
Was there any editing of those articles pertaining to the above quote?
The article "1997 - Rahman captures Poo Pookum Osai"
The first 3 para does'nt warrant that... The article would have been still the same without those initial 3 para.. isn't?

UV: I guess NOT everybody gets my humor. Please check the ip addresses and note the tone of the post as well as the use of smileys. :-)
paamaran: My post was definitely NOT intended to open a can of worms. While I too wish that there was NO COMPARISON whatever in any of the write ups, I am definitely going to focus ONLY ON THE POSITIVES in this collection of essays and ignore any unwanted, side issues which may/maynot be intentional.

(^!^),adding fuel to fire, its sad to note that ppl are celebrating the 10th death anniversary of TFM :-)
Good job to all the writers and admin for the articles/thread and for neatly consolidating ARRs works to date.
My 10 picks of ARR from these 10 years:
Roja, Duet, Thiruda Thiruda, Gentleman, May maadham,Kaadhalan, Karuthamma, En Swaasa Kaatre, Kandukonden Kandukonden and Rhythm.
I seem to have a preference for albums from his first five years as compared to the last five.

Dear friends we are all happy that you guys liked the write up.
Oops Raja G sorryanga seria parakalai
My personal take being a musician myself is comparsion dosent server any purpose but just float our egos. And I had a very bad experience myself with one very top classical singer.
From that I stopped comparing people, music and art but accept for they are.
Anyway I am happy to see good positive feedback and vibe.
My favourite of Rehman till date is Duet and Vandhe Mataram they are beautiful classic stuff.
Raja G I still cherish your song and voice.
Every once in a while I listen to Kulir Thendral song,I sincerely wish to talk to this person, what was his name i mean the composer Srinivasan or Ramesh. Rest of the guys if you havent listen please do listen to Raja G songs he has sung for Srikanth and also one beautiful song in a album called Himalayan serithane Raja G
