Apparently Nithyashree Mahadevan(Of Kannodu Fame) is singing in Padayappa......She has also recorded for IR(Info gathered from Nithya herself) - Looks like he's taking the path of successful singers that ARR has made famous in TFM.....She's been looking forward to working with IR and I'm expecting Great works from him, as he really knows how to use the Carnatic voice.....You've all heard his work with BOMBAY JAYASHREE - Kai Veenaiyai from Vietnam Colony!?!?!
Are the songs released in India or anywhere else? I haven't been able to get hold of them in UK.

I am sorry, but could you clarify what that means? Who does the 'he' refer to? IR?

Clarify: EnappA ippadi yaar ethai sonnaalum IR-ai kurai koorugiraargaL enRu 'paranoic'-a irukkeenga. To me it looks like 'he' refers to Nithyashri and is a typo by Geetha.
And discussion about Padayappa belongs to the new ARR's new albums thread.

Geetha i will be glad if she sings some good nos instead of falling into the categories of anupama and swarnalatha. Her second song Under Devas music is atrocious(i forgot the name of the film)-its a duet with Krishnachander and its kind of 'nethu rathiri amma'song. Also her song with Hariharan under Adhithyans music for a film called 'vennilavae'is nothing to rave about. The freshness and enthu in the voice that we heard in Jeans is totally missing. Maybe she needs an ARR to bring out those stuff(hopefully).
while talking about Nithya i will like to mention something about Unnikrishan. It really pains my heart to see such a talented , classically competent singer singing some rotten songs. Not only this i also find his voice very expressionless in pathos(there is a song in 'endrendum kaadhal' where he really sounds pathetic). Hes trying something that he really cannot do and if he starts to continue this thread-i guess he might lose many of his loyal fans(There was an article in last issue of kalki about his pathetic kutcheri during the music season)
I wish that he properly chooses the right type of song to sing instead of singing all that comes in his way. Same hopes go to Nithyasree also

Hi,
With IR's music, Nithyasree will definitely do well as in "Jeans" (or maybe, even better). Geetha, can you tell for which film Nithyasree has sung for IR?
As far as "Padaiyappa" is concerned, there will be 5 songs I believe
1) Rajni pugazh paadum paadal,
2) 2 duets (1 with Soundarya and 1 with Ramya Krishnan) - Idhilum Rajni thudhi konjam irukkum,
3) Rajni singing in a happy mood with Manivannan, Sendhil and the rest, praising his brother (Nasser),
4) Nasser betrays Rajni and so a pathos song.
Hope ARR does not ask UN or Daler Mehndi to sing for Rajni!!!

Ramki,
Good point about Unnikrishnan. He is the type of singer who demonstrates clearly the difference between a good singer and a good playback singer. His expression or lack there of is clearly visible in almost all of his songs. He is lucky when the song fits his standard expression (like ennavaLEy, narumugaiyE) but, in many other instances he spoils the song. For example, in Hayra hayra hay rabbaa (Jeans) he sings "nam kaadhalai kavi paadavEy shellyin byron in....." as if he is ready to do a "neraval" and "kalpana swaram" with typical carnatic style. I don't know about his classical music status, but he definitely does not belong in the 'run of the mill' TFM songs. He can always sing some songs which are specially composed and justify his singing based on the situation, lyrics etc.
"saadhanai" comes from "pudhumai", but not all "pudhumais" are "saadhanai"

Ithu eppadi irukku.,.....
Padayappa, padayappa unn padai naangappa.
kudai appa kudai appa nee kudai vallalappa.
(can be put as the title song sung by senthil manivannan and others with some beautiful sound affects and background of a huge temple).
Aiyo aiyo! ennanga kall adikureenga,

the point about unnikrishnan reminds me of what i told sometime back. the young carnatic musicians are failing to choose appropriate songs and MDs. all they care about is money and fame. even the great KJY is a highly money-minded person. the very fact that these people choose to sing for deva, athithyan explains the pathetic situation!

on: Wed Jan 20 18:46:27 EST 1999
Vijay,
I feel Aadhithyan is a better composer than Deva and bracketing him along with Deva is not fair. He is definitely no where near the top MDs but he is ok when compared to Deva and Sirpi. Atleast, he tries to be original.

Udhayappan,
The title song of almost all the Rajni movies in recent times will feature Rajni singing the song praising the Almighty God and portraying himself as a great devotee (as in Arunachalam) or singing about the cow (as in Annamalai) or about auto (as in Baatsha) or singing about life (as in Muthu). Since the name of the film is based on Lord Muruga, I feel Rajni will sing praising Lord Muruga in the first stanza and sing about himself in the second stanza.

A small digression:
Vijay, I agree with you. I think Jeyachandran is the only singer who did not sing songs which did not fit his voice and expression.

Since there will be lot of expectations for new/different performance from Rajnikanth movie(atleast the public can long for it) can we think of different ways in which entertaining songs can be composed(so that the viewers may not ever get an urge to leave the theatre when the songs play) which can suit the mega-style performance of Rajnikanth.
1a) have the three/many Music directors who can focus all of their efforts to give best songs. For example (IR + ARR -- agreeing on tune.. IR specialising on Violin and derivative music instruments play, ARR specialising on Piano and its derivative music instrument play, and Deva to bring out best Dappanguthu effects). Note similar thing had been earlier by IR + MSV in "Mella Thirandadu Kadavu"(they were really great songs).
1b) Have MDs invited from Hollywood.
2) songs of just three or four lines with fantastic composition and the rest can be made available as audio/video albums.
3) depending on the scenes every songs can be shown as being heard by Rajni from Radio and then the song can proceed as if it results in Rajni imagining the situation and acting for the song(in fact, this can be more realistic, than showing nobody playing tabla, violin, piano but the music coming in the background when the actor sings).
Any new ideas?
Raja

When someone started a separate thread for Kaadhal Kavithai, it was stopped immediately after a single posting saying it can be discussed in IR New Albums! Atleast that time the cassettes were released.
But now? The Rules are different for different banners or what?

Hi Geetha,
Is it possible to access the clips of the songs?
Or if not, how about typing in the some lyrics to express the trends of the songs.
Thanks in adv.
