Please check out the ARR interview at the filmfare site,go to interviews in the Sep issue here-

Nothing new!!The so called vacuum does'nt reflect on his work.Guess the spiritual state of mind is req for anything creative.
I am still waiting for his admission on copied tunes.I guess truth is tough to admit and hard to digest.

My statement was'nt trying to destroy ARR's creative abilities but was wondering wether the so called vacuum experience really shows in his work.He has pointedly avoided in so many interviews when it was brought to his notice that there exists very distinct similarities in his work with past works.
Thus a truthful admission would be more forthcoming.Nothing is wrong in getting inspired by past works but why not admit it.Trying to pass it off as an original is'nt worth it.ARR is undoubtedly India's most popular music composer.Hence his work should and will be closely analyzed and defects brought to the fore.
All I have reiterated is that his so called spiritual talk has'nt gotten fully reflected in his work.Compromise in any form art is adultery.Art in its pure form should'nt be compromised.A pure state of mind can and will always produce truth and all I question is his state of mind.
This was not intended to attack ARR or demean his creative pursuits.

Dhan,
I composed a song y'day ..it's excellent..only thing is ,it's the exact replica of a last year Hit ..say by IR or ARR .
So based on " isaiyai isayaai paarkum " neengal
athai accept seiveergala.?? If so then i am an excellent " Creative" MD. Right .???
There should be Ethics in whatever you do .!! Arts, business , Software and anything .. Piracy or plagiarism in any way is not acceptable. EVen if the No:1 MD in the World does it ( I guess ARR has reached that height , atleast as per Jeans sings... especially the "Sonare.." i am sorry .. the Vaarayo song.)

HI Guys,
Why should Arr agree?
He is not the first person to copy (or get inspiration!) from western music. TFM MDS in past have copied, including IR. No one can deny this fact. A kettle cannot call a pot black.
so there is no point in balaming ARR alone.
Raja fans out there are simply having a grude against Arr just because he captured the place of thier idol - "Raja" in TFM (also other MDS place in other India languages)
Vacuum!...and other things - just suits only for patti mandram talk.
Still the point remains - ARR is dominating with his creation, it impress current generation of musical lovers and surprisingly the older generation also. He was able to give something new (creative or better than raja is not the question - something newer and different than Raja, this the veda mantram that Arr was able to compete and win over the gaint Raja.
Balaji :
"if we sit in the vacuum with few dozen western CD's he will come up with good tunes."
Have you tried it: it is not easy to handle and give a great quality of sound.
Raja's music still lives, but this not force other to stop creating music,
I have already arguged a lot on this,
Suma thond keeziya kathinalum IR fans polambal will not be heard and will not bring Raja to top, Raja has to work more and adapt with mordern techs. This is not a hard task for Raja to pick up, We all know he can and hope he will.

Srikanth,
We have'nt dragged IR into this. This is an ARR specific topic and I want to keep it at that level. When our man takes the philosphical route and talks about truth and purity,I was questioning wether its coming from his heart or is he dishing out some puriyatha jargons.
I think he talking too much too early in his career.

Srikaath,
I don't agree with u'r view It's like debating the same chatni and Saambar argument! If someone says Chatni is Bad , u come up saying Sambaar is equally bad.!! I don't get it ! Discuss whether Chatni is bad or good ( Sorry could'nt help my favourite analogy)
why not we discuss the merit of the point. Why drag other "not so popular" MD's like IR in this "Ever so popular MD " ARR thread.. Please Defend u'r point of view.. Nobody brought IR in this discussion ..
Now coming to the point , if someone asks ARR , abt his alleged lifting , he could answer that he wanted to improvise the tune, was very inspired by the tune , or whatever he feels right.! But he seems to pose as though he has never heard the songs ... Hmmm..
We were discussing abt ARR's interview and in relevance his attitude of not accepting the facts.. Try to justify if u feel otherwise and we'll be more than happy to hear u'r views !
Just my thoughts !

Anand & MSK,
If you read the interview once again ARR reiterates the constraints with which he is working. For example, the producers coming with a comtemporary western hits and requesting him to compose on similar lines.
I my opinion, every MD's face these constraints, in fact every MD needs to know the expectation of the director/producer to give the well defined score for his film.
I don't remember ARR ever told that he's 100% original, I have read almost all of his interviews for the last 6 years. In fact he's agreed for the "Muqala Maqaubula" song that the loops are from Arabian music and the melody alone is original.
As far as the repetion concerned, I would say thats his style. The moment I hear a old song, I can say who would have composed it, say whether its IR or SG or MSV or MSV/TKR....does that mean that they are all repetitive. This is same with everyone in the creative field. For example all of KB's movies has the same style yet he's very innovative in the messages he portrays. Mani ratnam, the moment you see the song in oliyum oliyum you can easily say thats from MR song yet he was hugely creative with his approach.
I listen to IR songs atleast 1hr/day, I still enjoy his phenomenal score but they all belong to 80's and early 90's thats it. When I want to listen new songs I have the collection of 50 songs of ARR and I listen, I donot ever feel sick of hearing those. To my ignorant ears, his sound looks fresh and new, no matter whatever pulambals go on here!

dhan,
"repetition is his STYLE" -this is too much. I would call it "not being creative is his style".
I too can identify an IR song and an MSV song bcos of orchestration and those terrific interludes.
Ofcourse i can identify ARR songs from the good sound quality and rythm. But unfortunately ,bfore i cud appreciate his creativity, the original song reveals itself !!
"When I want to listen new songs I have the collection of 50 songs of ARR and I listen"
I think u haven't listened to the new IR songs like poonthottam, KM, Kaliyoonjal etc.
Srikanth,
what do u mean by "capturing the first place" ???
IR doing the same number of movies every year.More than what ARR does. Again the standard answer for this from ARR fans will be that he's very selective.
yeah, he scores music for BIG banners (only) and makes use of their publicity well( I am in no way berating the quality of the songs he's produced).
It's just that he's a better business man than IR. Also He can't score music for more than one movie at a time. How many songs can he "compile" at the same time.Indeed it's laborious.
"arr is dominating with his creation"
i feel it should read compilation!!
What do u mean by winning over Raja???
Has ARR made that many number of songs that IR has done?? ...................NO
Has he done anything (please don't bring technology in this) that IR hasn't done???..............NO
Has he produced so many varieties of songs as IR ???....................NO
Has he made a movie run ONLY for its songs (a kaadal oviyam, naattupura paattu, thedrale ennai thodu etc).......................NO
Then in what way do u say he's won over IR???
Nobody argued about the sound quality of ARR song.Providing good sound quality 'll make him a techie and not a creative MD
and why shud IR fans have grudge against ARR. We have not lost anything to say, we have a grudge over ARR.In fact I have started appreciating IR's music after listening to these guys.(kashtappatta thaane sugathoda arumai puriyum)
Naanga thonda kizhiya kathithaan IR mela varanumnu illai. Go check the records and see songs of which movie has been in the top 10 for max no of weeks, rather months.
Please let me know as to how to rate an MD as no 1.
Is it the number of good and original songs??
if that's true ,then the word original rules out ARR and deva.
is it the number of movies per year???
then it's deva.
is it the number of hits per year????
then ,again ,unfortunately it's deva (bcos no of movies r more)
Please let me know of the criterion for being called No1 MD.
Srikanth, if u find even a single word hurt ur feelings, my sincere apologies. I respect u for ur
technical contributions and ur profound knowledge in music.
thanx,
--shankar

Hi,
Guys,
All of are screaming against ARR on his interview.
Can anyone prove the sanctity of the interview, I dont belive what filmfare says, ARr has given a good interview he just gives a direct reply most of the questions.
Coping is a big word, just a few bars from Enigma or Phil collins does not become copying.
just like you and me - For a past 20 years ARR has been hearing this music, so this forces to get the same idea.
I belive in one thing - When Enigma or PC can get an idea - so is our MDS, they get the same kinda
idea.
Secondly replying to an interview is an art, that too the bombay based magazine tend to irritate south indians.
So Arr gives them a good reply, it is not for us alone.
Srikanth
