Hi Guys,
I was listening songs from Nilave Mugam Kaattu by IR.
Music for the 1st and 2nd stanza of the song "suttraathe boomi thaaye" sounded similar to "enai kaanavilaye" song from Kaathal Thesam.
Personally i like both songs. If there are any such inspirations - let's discuss.

Friend,
The interludes of "Sutraadhey" may be similar to the interludes of "Pillai Nila" (Neengal Kettavai), ie, a tribal female humming which is due to the similarity in the nativity of the songs! But both tunes belong to IR!
I am surprised as no such hummimg is seen in "Yennai Kaanavillaye"! May be u r refering to the similarity is rhythm! Even that has the same timing but has different instruments!
So, I strongly refuse the arguement of yours! What do u say?

and ARR used SPB, Chitra, SJ, Yesudas, Jayachandran, Swarnalatha...
Guess the inspiration thingie was mutual.

One don't have to read it to know. Listen and it will be known. Going by this, so many little bgm pieces and musical interludes has been 'inspired' from IR.
The chorus part in one of the songs in Kandukonden Kandudonden where GA conducts in the movie is a replica of IR's trademarks. I'm sure there are many more to quote but...oh well.

C~P,
Of coz IR song won't nikkuraan in your manasu. For that you need basic music appreciation.
Do you agree what I mentioned earlier? That ARR had to resort to IR-soundalike chorus in KK. I have noticed he has no other creativity. Back in 1993, when Roja came out I did notice his little chorus bgms sounded too close to The Omen.
You see, for all this you need to listen to music and have basic music appreciation. Only when that happens, music...good music that is, will nikkuraan in your manasu.
Hmmm, is it possible that MSV's songs can make a mark in some one. ARR's songs can make a mark in some one. But when it comes to IR's....hmmm. Go figure!

I cannot say if IR was ever inspired by ARR ,but few songs had such flavour of ARR and some songs YSR ( ??) ...
1.Mannu Koduthu Parthen from some karthik ,Suganya ( was it Seeman ??Released in 1994??) ..The beats had shades of the song "Bhakti Paadal Paadatuma from Pudhiya Mugam "
2."Yenge Yen Kadhali " from Devathai .I love this song ...It had shades of YSR or KR song ..Infact it was sung by KR ...
3.Munnal Seidha Thavam ( some Keyar directed movie ..) ..The beats had fade shades of Urvasi Urvasi song ..( i donno how many will accept this !!!)..But no way i can accept this is as an inspiration ...!!!!
I don't think one can find many songs ..the sytles are very very different ..
May the topic would have been more meaningfull if it was YSR instead of IR ......

One may accuse IR of several things, but imitation is probably not one. It is amazing how the maestro came up with tune after tune in swift succession for so many years. Indeed, no one can be at the top indefinitely and a time had to come when peoples' taste would be inevitably cloyed with a surfeit of IR songs. Tunes of the type "Maayandi, vEttiya kattungada" (in Yejamaan) probably didn't help IR's cause either, so much so that peoples' fascination with ARR type songs continued in the mid-nineties. Having said all the above here is the shocking aspect: I was listening to "Raja kayya vechcha adhu raanga ponadhilE" from aboorva sagodharagal (I think) on Sun TV yesterday. I realized that ARR's ottagatho kattikko song reminded of a brief interlude that occurs before the second paragraph of this IR song. Does anyone else think like that? I am sure Aboorva Sagodharagal was released much before ARR's entry into TFM. I am willing to believe though that it was all just a coincidence and ARR's tune was really an independent effort.

Music4ever,
I don't know about that song. But I can tell several songs, I felt that way.
Thiruda Thiruda - Kannum Kannum kollaiyadithaal starting music is a lift from some holywood music. The source is not known because, I saw this was coming in older holywood movies?(not one). But song tune is different.
In the same song one of the interlude is the same as in Ponn Maane (Oru kaidiyin dairy).
As far as ARR goes, he will take some building blocks from here and there. But he will finally lays his original ideas and techno stuff over that to hit the song. This is my opinion. I know several other incidents also where I could see such resemblances.

Music4ever,
In the same ottagathe kattiko, starting music has striking resemblance with 'Saravan poigayil Neeradi'. Then again the tune is original.
In same Gentle Man, En veetu thotathil poovellam ketu paar is from Carnatic song, Nadha vindhu kalachi Namo Namo.(This I would say almost copy). We use to sing this song in music class and that's how I know this.
But I don't know how magazines left this. The same time Deva was ripped apart from making Kandha sasti kavacham in to love in Suriyan!!

The En Veettu Thottathil is an intentional rip-off to go with the "chichueshun" - an iyer appalam business and lots of mamas and mamis dancing it out! It was a pretty good knock off and played out right! As for ripping into ARR one can do that to their heart's content anywhere or simply not buy his music! It's a pity the podu jana public don't care!
