  Karthik has openly accepted that it was Srinivas who introduced him to ARR. Yes, he was lucky to have met the right people at the right time. But that his not his fault. Btb, I still don't understand why a few always say that he is arrogant. Can you guys give an instance ???

  Folks
  anyone watched karthik's intvw in SS Music ????. i saw it yday and I should say that he was completely at sea throughout the entire intvw. He was too shy to look directly into the face of the female compere who tried her best to make him talk. But he hardly seemed to open his mouth. Imagine this... he was thinking hard for more than 30 secs for some of the Qs she asked and finally she had to say "Time out" to move on to the next Q. and there were some obvious questions like "what kind of things he loves doing ?" for which he thought hard for almost a min (cant understand why) and finally said "singing !!!!" . I think his problem is he is basically a shy, reserved, introvert youngster who keeps to himself. That could be the main reason why many people mistake it for arrogance.
  
  Whatever it maybe, being such a great singer, he needs to open up a little bit for the media to reach his fans and change his image.

  i never knew Karthik was that shy. I've Read in the interviews he's given how hez a lazy person that enjoys sleeping. He likes to hang out with his friends. Hez just an ordinary guy. Give the guy a BREAK!!!! why are you expecting so much of his personality and stuff.

  It is not that I expect him to dance and show off (or even start acting like Harish raghavendar) in intvws. A music channel chose to interview him because he is one of the leading playback singers in TFM. and when you have those thousands of fans seeing it on TV, you can atleast answer thsoe Qs in a way that cheers up the people. make it watchable !! you shoudl have seen the intvw to believe it ... SS Music (especially the compere) woudl have been totaly disappointed the way intvw went. he was just silent to many of the Qs (thinking hard). sometimes it made me wonder if it is a BBC mastermind quiz show. But at the end, he made it up a little by singing 2 lnes from Girlfriend...
  
  I agre that he is very much a normal person like many ppl here when it comes to hangin out with friends & laziness and other stuff. but giving an intvw like that , just leaves some fans disaapointed.
  anyway, i've got nothing to complain as long as he sings the way he is singing now.

  Canada. Fine...maybe he was acting Reserved and all.He should have made his fans happy and everything.
  All that matters is his singing...
  DId anyone see him on Pattuku Pattu.. it may have been a few weeks ago or somehting i saw it on SUN TV..ya they have it in Canada. He came as the guest person adn he sang Maya Maya, Sakthi Kodu and Oliyale...He sang really well.

  Guys my first time here...and what a way to join. I am an ardent fan of Karthik. The way he renders his songs and the freshness in his voice... boy, his is the most refreshing voice I have ever come across. Other voices are so very good..but karthik's is like Preity Zinta in the Liril(or whatever) ad...so very fresh.

  Karthik sang in Kannathil Muthamittaal, in the song "Sundari". If the Arjun-Kiran starrer you are referring to is Parasuram, then yes, Karthik sang "Kaadhal Vettukkili" with Sadhana Sargam.
  
  BTW, Maverick, I really wouldn't put my money on the arrogance theory. I didn't watch the interview you mentioned. However, I have seen Karthik when he is bright and chirpy. I have also seen him when he has been in recordings for a significant portion of the previous evening/night and is completely zonked out the following day. Your description of his state in this interview fits the second category real well! (Don't know if that, in fact, is the reason why he was "thinking hard".) While he is not exactly a mindless chatterbox, he is not reticent either. He is just a normal person like any of us, except, ahem, he has some extraordinary talent!

  I just love the song from the movie Kaakaa Kaakaa.You guys should listen to it! It's totally mesmerizing. The way he sings it with emotions.He ends the song really well to.

  hi guys. this is a very good discussion about a very good person. I met Karthik in Chennai through music director Mani Sharma and then at the ITFA awards together with Sreenivos, Tippu, Harini, Unnikrishnan and other actors. He shone out as an individual and he does not appear to be shy in person. He is a very presentable and shows respect. Watch him take over the HIndi music scene he is due to record soon.   I am a great fan of Karthick. The first song i listened to of Karthick's was Krishna Krishna from the movie Dum Dum Dum.
  
  Well, i have nothing much to say about him, everyone else has talked so much about him. I wish him all the best and to continue singing in TFM.
  
  By the way, does anyone know which was his first song that he sung, for TFM? I know it's definitely not for the movie Star in which A.R Rahman composed.

  Karthik says that his first major song was in the movie star. But songs of another film "Kaadhal Jaadhi" music by Illayaraja was released around the same time. Karthik has sung 3 songs in that movie. But the film was not released.

  As interpreter said, Karthik was there in the chorus of 'Sundari...' (from KM) and sang 'Kaathal Vettukkili..' in Parasuram.
  Again, Could you guys think of any ARR movie in which he is missed out in recent times ?
  
  And to clarify whatever I said earlier, I never even mentioned once that he is arrogant and I don't believe in it myself. I was just mentioning that SS Music intvw in which he seemed totally lost and not too willing. Maybe he was a bit jaded as you said.

  Well, Star was released in 2001. Since then, this is what the break-up looks like:
  
  2001
  Lead singer: Star, Alli Arjuna and Parthale Paravasam.
  Backing vocals: Lagaan
  Did not sing in: He is not credited in other 2001 ARR movies like Nayak, One Two Ka Four, Love You Hamesha, etc. but don't know whether these movies were released before or after Star. Maybe somebody follows these things closely enough to keep track of months of release? ;-)

  So, if you are trying to find out if ARR likes Karthik's singing so much that he always has him sing in his movies, I think you have your answer. I think ARR uses his voice quite a bit, where appropriate. Clearly, WOHE is not a candidate. Could he have sung in Tehzeeb? What Shaan could do with that Khoyee Khoyee song, I am sure Karthik could. But there are other constraints like target audience, producer's preference, singer availability, etc. With his training and ability, I think Karthik is capable of making waves in HFM, but there are very few who have broken through that glass wall ...
