I saw Virumandi by paying extra.
Why KAMAL..? Why u proved all that told by K.Balachander in Virumandi VIZHA.
It is better to have directors like BHARATHAN ( DEVAR MAHAN ) to deliver a good interesting movie.
Virumandi was very raw and not able to sit in the second half.
Dont confuse the audience with ur confused state of mind.
Iam UPSET and my friends ridicule me as a fan of yours.

I dont know about the Kumbakonam area, but are you talking about Suchindram? Suchindram has a seperate sannadhi for Brahma apart from the Trimurthi sannadhi. But this is in Nagercoil area.

Here is a site on the famous Pushkar festival in Rajasthan that also mentions the Brahma temple, with the addition that it is the only temple to Brahma in India.
http://www.pushkar-camel-fair.com/temples-in-pushkar.html
There is a Brahma temple in Prambaanan Indonesia from about 1000 years back.
http://www.emp.pdx.edu/htliono/brahma.html
There is a Brahma temple in Goa.
http://www.all-indiatravel.com/goa-travel/brahma-temples-goa.html
Also a structure in Grand Canyon, Arizona is called Brahma Temple.
Interesting to note that there a few shrines for Brahma in Tamil Nadu too.
Vangalam = Bangla
Visakam = Baisakhi
Vaasu = Basu
Similarly Viruma = Biramma = Brahma
The 'andi' is added just like Pazhani'andi' to become Virumaandi.
So the word roots are the same. But Virumaandi as a tribal god in the Madurai area who is cognate with Brahma is pretty interesting and hence would like to know more about him, if anyone has any details.

Well, I guess Virumaandi the movie generated some interest in his cognate Brahma as well.

Yes! there is a temple for Brahma in Tamilnadu.
In fact the French Government of Pondicherry
issued a stamp having the image of the Brahma
during 1943.
I will send anyone interested a scan.

The Hindu trinity consists of Brahma, Vishnu and Siva for creation, sustenance and destructions respectively.
Human being needs the favours of the other 2 gods (i.e) for sustenance and saving from destruction.
But having being created and existing why need the favours of Brahma -the God for creation ?
Hence no temples for Brahma except on rare places!

Saw Virumaandi for the third time in Toronto last night. I was surprised to see it is still drawing pretty good crowds. Other movies playing in Toronto yesterday were PKS and Thendral.
I've read a lot here about the lack of bgm in this movie. But, there is one instance of bgm I think highlights IR's knack for it.
When Viruman confronts Koththalan with the sickle that was used to attack him, Koththalan counters with a story that it his sickle was looted from his abandoned car by Nallaman's people. Kottaichami begins to shake his head in agreement while looking a bit puzzled at the story. Raja plays a 'mahudi' tune in the background to show how well Koththalan is handling Viruman, but the bass score to that bgm is quite eerie, suggesting that this is going to lead to bad consequences.
This is one of many such brilliant moments by Raja in Virumaandi. A must see movie indeed.
Sorry about the degression:-)

Babu, thanks for the link.
Others: Here's the relevant bit:
After a series of 'thanda-thanda' films, the awesome Kamal Haasan has bounced back to the blizzard status with the epic Tamil blockbuster "Virumaandi", which has single-handedly revived the Tamil film industry's sagging morale.
In the US and Europe promoting the film, the ecstatic director-actor says: "All I asked for was a hit for all the hard work that I put in. Now look what they've done! It's the biggest hit of my career.
"Surpassing 'Indian', 'Sakala Kalavallavan', 'Appu Raja'...all of them. I'd have said god has finally decided to be kind to me. But I don't think He exists."

Some one asked "Which is commercially better: virumaandi or engal anna?"
Engal Anna - has already been removed from the theatres! The film did not even make a ripple-leave alone a wave!
Poor pumpkin Vijaya kanth - let him move to politics and hope to survive !
