There are many many wonderful songs in old TFM (especially belonging to the period before 1980) which many of us have heard and enjoyed in the days of their popularity, but, as years rolled by those songs came to be heard only rarely. This thread is an attempt to unearth such golden oldies. Those who have longed to hear such songs can make a "nEyar viruppam" request here. In response, those who have the songs can convert them into MP3s and share it with others here. Through sites like coolgoose.com and Yahoo briefcase, it is now possible to do such sharing easily.
As rare songs are unearthed and brought out as MP3s, it would be natural to listen to them and discuss them here, so that this thread does not simply become just a set of requests and supplies.
My sister Sathya Kabali has a large collection of rare TFM goldies in cassettes and she is in the process of converting them into MP3s and putting them in coolgoose. The songs she has uploaded are available at this link:
http://www.coolgoose.com/go/music?user=sathyakabali&go=1
(You need to get your own coolgoose account in order to download.)
I would also start uploading MP3s of rare songs to the same link. For sure, you can look forward to a great set of songs being added to this collection soon.
We look forward to enthusistic contribution from many forumers.

Two songs we added today in coolgoose are:
poo choodum nEraththilE pOi vittAyE ammA from pAr magaLE pAr
and
thuLLi varum mAn kutti from nenjil Or Alayam,
both sung by PS. Both are excellent situational songs, very rarely heard in radio even in the days when the movies were released.

Can anyone give some information on the situation of Poo choodum nerathilae (Paar Magalae Paar)? Does it come when Vijayakumari diasappears from Sivaji's house?

Saravan, Yes. Once she disappears, sivaji and co will assume she is dead. They will do the last rites for her, when sowkar will sing this song.

sk, I would request a decent quality version of "engum niraindha iyarkayil" from Idhu eppadi irukku, if possible. And also songs from rare late 70s IR films like Sonnadhu nee dhaana, kannan oru kaizkuhandhai etc. If you have "veenai meettum kaigale" by SJ, please add it.
Pazhamudhir cholayile from Kuzhandhaiyum dheivamum is a classic thats hard to find. Do you happen to have it?

Ramki:
Thanks for details on poo choodi.
On thuLLi varum maan kutti from nenjil Or Alayam..
When kutti Padmini (child artiste) is operated, Devika sings this verse praying for the child's recovery. Kutti padmini's mother has gone to the temple. Soon after this song the child dies.
Vijay & Raj:
My sister is looking for rare songs from the 70s. We hope to get some songs soon. I am sure Saravanan would be the happiest person if rare songs from the 70s are unearthed and brought out for everyone to hear.
We just uploaded a good quality film version of pazhamudhir chOlaiyilE thOzhi from kuzhandhaiyum dheivamum. Excellent song with a classical touch! Is the song set in Abheri?

I have started off by adding a couple of great oldies here
http://www.coolgoose.com/go/music?user=goldies&go=1
Kannukku kulamedhu and Madhavi Ponmayilaal - not very easy to find but definitely worth adding to your collection. The former is a melody with PS pouring her heart out and the latter a scintillating semi-classical in TMS's resonant voice. MSV is the MD for both songs

Does anyone looking for any spb oldies in particular? I can speed up MP3 conversion, if someone is really interested.

Vijay:
Thanks for mAdhavip ponmayilAL. SL mentioned this to me..
MSV told him that when he was asked to create a dance song for iru malargaL, his immediate thought was to compose it in Kalyani. But then, he felt he can never match KVM's mannavan vandhAnadi and so he decided to go for Karaharapriya instead. A great tribute to KVM that is.
Venkat:
Great. I have a number of pre-IR songs, but certainly not 200. Some years ago we made a list of old SPB songs. That list is here:
http://www.newtfmpage.com/my/singer/spb.html
Looks like you have many more! I have sugamaana sindhanaiyil (Taxi Driver). Let me get it for you soon.

SK and SK , thanks a lot for your efforts. TFM enna bAggiyam seithathO.....absolutely selfless service. Could you upload 'En siriththAi ennai pArththu' by the one and only PBS. His crisp brighas and sublime presentation in that song can bring tears to the eyes of a stone hearted. Thanks once again for your selfless service.

Sk- Ponni Thirunaal had some great songs. The radio always credited the music to KVM, though it is said that the score was entirely TKP’s. Besides Yen sirithaai enai paarthu, Ponni Thirunaal had the following songs
1.Karumbu villai- Seergazhi Govindarajan, AL Raghavan, K Jamunarani, LRE
2.Kannum kannum kathai pesi-PBS-PS
3.Singara malligai- LRE
4.Athanai paaru adi amma ushaaru- K Jamunarani
5.Veesu thendralae veesu-PBS-PS
6.Pongi varum Kaviriyae- Thiruchi Loganathan, Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi, Jamunarani, ALR
7.Nattukkor thandhaiyadi- (Radha) Jayalakshmi –Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi
Though all songs were good, there’s one song that’s forever fresh in memory. It is a haunting pathos filled number by PS, and how beautifully she has sung it-
Pattu siragadithae
parakkum chittukkuruvigala
Sirai pattu thavithurugum
paavai en parithaabam kaaneergala
Thatti parithu vandhae
ennai sanjalakkoottukkullae
oru dhushtan adaithuvittaan
perum thunbathil aattivittaan
Idhai vittu parappatharkko
enakko siragugal ethummillai
Ennai thottu kalandhavarkkae
idhai poi sollida maateergalaa
Muthu muthaai kanneer
thuligal mugathinil thora (?) vittae
ingu eththanai naal innum
naan ivvidham vaaduvatho
Manam pithu pidikkum munnae
Indha pedhai padum thuyarai
En aththaan idathil solli
Azhaithae vandhida maateergalaa
Perhaps some of the words are incorrect- but the situation seems to be that the heroine has been abducted by the villain and imprisoned in some godforsaken place. She can see the sparrows chirping and flying outside her window, she beckons to them, and beseeches them to fly high and convey her distress to her lover, who will surely free her from her wretched incarceration.
Highly melodramatic, no doubt, but an awesome song, and PS brings out the despair so well – the infinitesimal gap between pattu and siragadithu adds so much to the appeal.
I love the place where she dips in ‘Idhai vittu parappadhakrkko’, and the tremulous sorrow in ‘manam pithu pidikkum munnae’ makes one ache for her plight. The brigha laden prolonging of sollida maateergala and vandhida maateergala gives the impression of hurriedly shed drops of tears—
I am back to my childhood vacations in my village as I am thinking of this song—the radio used to play this often—and a neighbouring Akka used to hum it so well—
Bagesri ragamaa, sk? Kettka kidaikkuma ?

Saravanan:
Thanks for the details on the ponnith thirunAL songs. The only song other than 'En siriththAi' that I know is 'veesu thendralE'. Looks like 'pattu siRagadiththE' is a must-hear song for all PS fans.
Venkat:
We have uploaded 'sugamAna sindhanaiyil' (Taxi Driver) in coolgoose.
I wonder what is the raga of that song. It seems to use MMG notes.
