To start with, how about these two:
`nAn kAlai nEraththAmarai' - Agni natchathiram (song -oru poongAvanam by vAli)
&
`rAthiriyil poothirukkum thAmarai dhAn peNNO' -Thangamagan (song- rathiriyil.., probably by VM going by the word `sElai chOlaiyE':-))

avayam = part (body part)
uvamai = simile
(the kaL at the end just means parts and simile-s?)

uvamai is "analogy" to be precise but in poetry "similie" is appropriate...
remember the song in "tik tik tik"... "netru indha neram" it has a line "padukayil paambu neliyuthu"..
konjam over thaan antha pattu..

Bharat,
We can keep male body parts out of this. As Ellen says in Seinfeld, the male body is like a jeep, purely functional and not to be admired. The female body OTOH is a work of art! :)
kozhuppu,
I think the ultimate song in this category would be azhage azhage devathai from Rajaparvai. In it the poet describes her eyes, ears, neck, fingers.. almost every body part. I dont remember the exact lyrics and who wrote the song, but if anyone remembers, please do write it out. Great song!

Guys, there is a song in the movie Devaragam, which( I forgot the starting of the song) describes each and every part of sridevi and in that order after the stomach the words go like..."Aalilai vadivam un adi vayiroo...."man it was too much and to sum it all the lyricist ends it saying that she is Sri Mahalakshmi..
:-))))))

hi guys, i guess another song in this category is 'anbe anbe kollathe' from the movie jeans. Vairamuthu describes Iswarya Rai on his own style, hmmmm nice song....

BTW azhage azhage devathai would be first runner up.
Now that I think of it the absolute greatest in this category would be "maduraiyil parantha meenkodiyai un kangalil kandaynay".
What a concept! Vali has compared each district/city in TN to each part of a woman. An absolutely fabulous song, I had to hold back my tears when I heard it for the 1st time.

Reading the kind of lyrics and song titles mentioned in this thread reminds me of a quote (by Voltaire):
"Anything that is too stupid to be spoken is sung."

If you not comfortable with poems, just dont post anything in this thread. These lyrics and songs are works of art. I think the people who have posted them here consider them so. If it is beyond your comprehension, don't discount them and prove your ignorance and insecurity.
By the way try to learn some tamil and dont compare some 18th century idiot's statements to the beauty of these songs/lyrics
I think the others who posted songs here would completely agree with me on this one

i want to know one thing.. (and tigger imagine seinfeld saying this)
what is it with these females? why do they think any reference to sex or the anatomy is stupid? Whats so wrong about it. Its there and its there always and so the lyricists talk about it! Its considered to be the single-most prevalant thought among all living beings with intelligence.
i have sometimes heard from people that even "bathroom" exists so why not talk about it. my answer to those people wud be.."well they are not the same" and "if you think its the same either stop pretending or go see a doctor"

Guys and God,
don't jump to conclusions.
You mus have misread my quote.
Now I agree all tis sounds nice, poetic and fine if it belongs to a song. But imagine saying this to someone...like for instance talking to a woman about the thing which all women don't have. Doesnt tat sound spastic to u? It does to me. It's ok to tell a woman she has a great ass, but if u tell her it looks like the puthu kottai district of TN, she'll probably laugh at u and ask u if u were out of ur mind. I know I wud. Tat's wat I mean by anything tat's too dumb to be spoken being sung.
"what is it with these females? why do they think any reference to sex or the anatomy is stupid?"
:-))) Bharath either something's wrong wit the females u mix wit or something's wrong wit u, which makes them feel uncomfortable when u talk to them about their anatomy.
God, as a matter of fact I loved tat Anbe Anbe song and when I heard tat feminists were bashing tat song for its portrayal of the subject as a sex object, I dismissed it as stupid rhetoric (on the part of the feminists) to the great anguish of many feminist female friends (really!).
btw, I dont think Voltaire is an idiot.

Good lord WhyNot! I was lazy and did not explain it properly, and you jump to conclusions. I should have said Vali describes each feature of a women with the speciality of each district/city of TN. And what irony! You start your posting with "don't jump to conclusions"
Here's the song, and a translation:
maduraiyil parantha meenkodiyai - > un kangalil kandeney
the Pandya flag that flew in Madurai (with the fish emblem) -> your eyes
poril puthumaigal purintha cheran villai -> un puruvathil kandeney
the cherans bow that performed feats of valor in battle -> your eye-brows
thanjaiyil parantha puli kodiyai -> un penmaiyil kandeney
the Chola flag that flew over Tanjore (tiger emblem) -> your feminity
ivai moondrum sernthu thondrum unnai tamizhagam endreney
you who are composed of these three - I'll call you tamizhagam
kanchi thalaivan koyil silai thaan -> kanmaniyey un pon udalo
the statue in kanchi -> your golden body
kudanthaiyil paayum kaviri alai thaan -> kathaliyey un poonkuzhalo
waves of the river kaveri that leap in kumbakonam (??) -> your flower-laden hair
selathil vizhaiyum maangani suvai thaan -> ??? un sevvithazho
the sweet mango of Salem -> your rosy lips
thoothukudiyin muthu ???-> ??? un punnagaiyo
the pearls of tuticorn -> your laughter
podigai malaiyil purappadum thendral -> ilaiyavaley un nadai azhago
the breeze that starts from the podigai hills -> your walk
kumariyil kaanum kathiravan udayam -> kulamagaley un vadivazhago
the sunrise at kanyakumari -> your shape (?)
Now isn't that a beautiful song?!!

>> ...like for instance talking to a woman about the thing which all women don't have.
"Entha Pennilum illaatha Ondru" is a song in which the hero tells that heroine that there is something special about her which he does not see in other women. It is not to be miscontrued (as you have, in this case) that she has something in her anatomy that other women don't have. You have a serious comprehension problem if you can't get this into your dull head. You dont know what "avayangal" is, you don't know what an "uvamai" is and you want to comment about a thamizh lyric...
Yes, there are references to the woman's anatomy in this song. But the song also goes on to discuss her mannerisms which greatly impress the guy (like smiling at the end of each sentence, Biting her lips when she says something she did'nt mean to etc ). Have you ever heard this song completely ?
This song is a "think-aloud" on the part of a guy who wonders what is it that is so special about the girl that he loves. Is it her anatomy ? her cute mannerisms ?
If you still want to look at it in your perverted way, then go ahead. Have a nice day.

Bharat, modifying a famous saying, lets just say:
"dreaming about the female anatomy is one of the nine reasons for reincarnation... The other eight are unimportant"
:)!
